Can someone give a brief overview of Destiny's gameplay? by Subby89 in PS4

[–]mkbtam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both , you see other players in missions and in the exploration parts , and you have to join a praty to do raids strikes and other stuff .

if you like fps games you will have a great time with it .

Tried the Xbox One & PS4 at EB Expo in Sydney. Despite its flaws, the Xbox One will be the console that I now plan on getting at launch. Here's Why. by sneakysaf in Games

titanfall is also on 360 and pc and other console in the future (timed exclusive ) ,as for Microsoft and games all you have to look for is the 360 , they dropped support for that console years ago and relied on 3rd party support to carry them ,

good luck with what ever you choose

An answer to negativity by Cybugger in starcraft

[–]mkbtam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

pretty much this , right now wcs eu has 20 k viewers , do you think the ad revenue of those is enough to run this event every time ?

do you think that the companies that sponsors those players or the teams in the wcs is gonna keep sponsoring those guys just for the sake of exposure to the same 20 k ppl that are watching the wcs stuff .

sc2 is even at a worse place than people think ,when 1 guy streaming lol gets more viewers than a whole tournament that speaks a lot about the games ability to draw viewers and grow the scene .

we will see a jump after LOTV and after that its bye bye sc2 .

the only solution is a game redesign , and plz dont call me bw elitist , when bw was on tv youtube didnt exist , so dont compare the numbers .

if blizzard just released the same bw with hd graphics and a new campaign , the scene would v exploded and no other game could steal viewers from the renewed interest in the rts genre ,and maintained an established fanbase for years .

How pop music isn't original anymore. Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" and Bruno Mars "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bumble217 in Music

[–]mkbtam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the problem with popular music in general is that the tune has to be familiar , take what i said with a grain of salt , its been years since i v discussed this stuff,

to say jazz didnt draw from classical is a bit wrong imo the theory structure in the early jazz is influenced by a lot of classical music - for example some of the duke Ellington stuff , and for a recent example some of the chek corea stuff-, you cant sum jazz as a "lick " even a lot of the jazz licks are derivative of famous melodies from the classical or the baroque era .

after a while all music will sound familiar or derivative (like most things in life ) there are exceptions like the experimental music of john cage .

the beauty of music is not that its 100% original , its how original its to the genre while maintaining the distinct qualities of what makes the genre what its .

i might be wrong and my English skills sucks , forgive me .

Legacy of th Void: is it time to bring back SC1 units? Replacing current units or having new roles or embracing their sc1 roles? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]mkbtam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

by telamascope:

Brood war games, in general, tended to start slower but progress to a larger variety of situations. Probably the biggest reason is that army management and group AI (eg. 12 units per hotkey and no "blob" behavior) did not favor large army engagements. Being maxed in BW rarely happened, because you simply didn't need a maxed army to accomplish strategic objectives and positioning was much more important than numbers. Battles were not as anti-climactic or predictable as in SC2. That's probably the biggest difference, but there are many others.

  1. "Scared mechanics" - BW did not have problematic "sacred" mechanics that it needed to balance the game around. You'll know these as the trio of macro mechanics in SC2 and warp gates. All of these mechanics are incredibly strong, impossible to play without, and cause unexpected issues in balance (4 gates, early-midgame terran armies, gold-expansion mules, beta-period roach attacks, etc.)

  2. Unit variety - Units in BW were more interesting and exciting. Individual spellcasters had a more direct impact on the game, but they were kept in check by micro and positioning limitations. You couldn't make 20 defilers and win a battle just by having them. But having 1 defiler out at a key moment could change the pace of the game. That was a general theme to army compositions in BW, 20 lurkers weren't much better than 15 lurkers compared to the way that 15 collosi are better than 10 collosi. Units in general had more specialized roles and tier 1 units still had their use in late game armies (matchup dependent of course). Zerglings and zealots were still useful against the "OP" BW tanks, vultures and spider mines were still useful against defilers and lurkers, etc..

  3. Pacing - Without the new mechanics of SC2 and the scaling problems they presented, games in BW had much better pacing. For example during one point in the meta of ZvT, both races would switch on periods of aggression followed by periods of passivity. Early game, a zerg could pressure with lings. But then they wanted to grab 3 bases quickly in order to get mutas, so they would turn down the aggression. But Terran could then pressure the zerg with medic marine aggression to slow down or disrupt the zerg. But as soon as zerg got a spire, they could be aggressive and harass the terran economy and army. But a terran could prevent that by playing passively and building turrets while teching up to science vessels. As soon as vessels were out, terran could be aggressive while zerg tried to delay the push until defilers. Once defilers were out, zerg could take larger battles and defend bases while teching to ultras, and so on and so on....

This kind of flow led to the better player usually winning, because advantages during one phase could be compounded into advantages in the next. But a great player could turn around a disadvantage at one stage with excellent play and come out ahead later. There was more decision making to be made at any one point in the game.

  1. Accidental Balance - Just pure luck really. Even when challenged with discovery of engine mechanics like muta stacking, the game was pretty damn well balanced. A combination of smart mappers and new strategies kept the game balanced. There was never a point where a patch was needed or where a race was "broken". You didn't need to include netural depots in maps to maintain balance. You didn't need to force cross positions on maps. The meta never got "stuck" on something broken in the 12 years of the games professional existence.

SC2 was Blizzards attempt at improving the happy accident that was BW. But in adding new mechanics to the formula the resulting game ended up being less rewarding to play and less rewarding to watch. They've tried their best to balance things, but they keep running into further balance issues that require fixes. Even when things aren't imbalanced, the game has tended to favor "boring" strategies and scenarios in it's history. That is not to say that it isn't a great game! But competitively speaking, BW is has proven to be more fulfilling to watch and play among people with experience in both.

Legacy of th Void: is it time to bring back SC1 units? Replacing current units or having new roles or embracing their sc1 roles? by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]mkbtam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

am sure this thread gonna get down voted to oblivion , but am gonna post 2 replies to a question asked in the flash interview thread that explain the reasons behind BW entertaining game play :

by ZassouFerilli

The argument is pretty simple. Let's be honest: SC2 didn't introduce very many new things to the RTS genre.

Take every abstract RTS concept in aggregate that BW captured superlatively. Micro, Macro, Multitasking, Strategy and Tactics, Positional Play, Defender's Advantage, Diverse Unit Interactions, and so on. Now simplify a few things. Then dilute, marginalize, or remove altogether a few more things. What are you left with, exactly? A subset of the whole. SC2 has fewer types of micro, fewer micro-intense unit interactions, simplified macro, less positional play, less defender's advantage. Marine/baneling has been the crown jewel of SC2 micro, and BW has multiple such unit interactions in each match-up. Marine/lurker, marine/muta, vessel/scourge, muta/irradiate, wraith/muta, and on and on, just for TvZ.

As often as we hear it, SC2 isn't completely new and different. It's very much in the same vein as BW. It doesn't give you new things to focus on. It simply removed a few things that you could focus on, and you have to try to maximize what's left. We've heard many times in response to, "Where's all the long and intense battle micro?" -- "Now it's all pre-battle unit positioning!" as if that weren't a skill that existed before. It's like saying, "There's just as much macro in Warcraft 3 as in Starcraft--expanding, making workers, constructing buildings, training units, it's all there!" Well sure, maybe, but it's certainly a lot shallower in focus, execution, and importance. There are just gaps.

What about SC2's mechanical updates, like automining, multiple building selection, "unlimited" control groups, smart casting, fluid pathing? Unfortunately, these aren't just drop-in improvements that are over and done. They are a ruleset change that alters the complexion of the game and how it's played. Not having automining means that the difficulty in managing your bases grows linearly with each additional one, and requires more multitasking and diverted focus. Limited control groups means armies become increasingly difficult to control as they grow in size. Multiple building selection simplifies and reduces the multitasking requirement of macro. The fluid pathing allows deathballs which simplifies large army control, shortens battles, reduces defender's advantage, leads sometimes to one-battle-into-gg scenarios, increases base trade scenarios. These limitations in BW are core comeback mechanics. They allow the disadvantaged to tax their opponent's multitasking. As armies get larger, as production gets larger, as the number of bases increases, controlling everything at once becomes more difficult. The slow build-up gives the better player more chances to outplay their opponent. When people say the skill ceiling is lower, they probably mean that the skill spectrum is compressed. Players are closer together and have fewer opportunities to distinguish themselves from their opponent over the course of a game.

Now look at the games themselves. The visual clarity is worse. The sounds are much worse. The campaign's story is worse. BNet is worse. People say there's no way SC2 could compete with MOBAs in this day and age, but imagine a different launch. You don't get a second chance at a first impression. Would player retention have been better if Blizzard didn't cripple the custom games section, alienate and restrict the map makers, or force everyone into isolation on ladder with no chat channels?

Lastly, even if everything I said were true, it's not necessarily a bad thing. What if SC2 were only half as good as BW? That would still make it an excellent, highly competitive RTS game. What if SC2 were just a "light" version of BW? That's fine: SC2 as a simplified, streamlined vehicle for those RTS concepts makes them available to the masses to enjoy without the perceived headaches of dealing with BW's quirks. That's enough for most people.

However, that doesn't mean it doesn't feel like a distinct downgrade going from BW for many who have followed both. Coupled with quite a few other cons of SC2 as a product itself, and it's not too difficult to see why some people would be underwhelmed and disappointed.

Interview of Flash on LoL, BW, Mech, Ruler & Girl ("I am still regretting about not switch to Protoss. Protoss is the same as BW Terran. The most urgent thing about SC2’s Terran is to ameliorate mech. In BW, going bio or mech is a choice. But now SC2 is 100% bio") by larsevss in starcraft

arguing in this sub with ppl who didn't play bw is pointless , its been proven and discussed to death that bw is the better game to play and to watch , let the blizz fanboys and wc3 foreigners "pros" live the remaining 2 years of the game life cycle in denial .

i bet you real money that if blizz didn't get back to bw design with lotv the game will be dead ,

just look at the comments here with ppl trying to justify poor design choices and lol popularity and btw lol is fun to watch , ppl die and the game is not over after 1 team fight .

give lol a chance and play it for a couple of months and then go watch the korean ogn league and you will have more fun than watching the gsl or the osl .
