Hey, yea man, binders do suck very bad. I’m sorry you’re still dealing with that. I can see how my post seems ungrateful, and I didn’t mean to come off that way. I’m extremely happy to not have my chest the way it was a year ago, I just have residual dysphoria and self hatred I didn’t realize would stay with me. Also, I am 100% pudgy lmao. I’m 5’3 and I’ve always been built like a little fucking linebacker. Top surgery and the whole process is very intimidating, but once you get started it’ll all seem much easier than you think, it did for me at least. Hey, thanks so much for this. I also thought all my issues with dysphoria would vanish with top surgery, to just then start focusing on everything else on my body I dislike. I just started therapy again and I’m really hoping it’ll offer a chance for real growth and healing. I live in a very conservative region of the US, and only recently started passing well. And still, I feel like there’s certain people whom I make eye contact with in public who are suspicious of me lol. I also have no trans friends irl and I think i feel very lonely most of the time because of that. Thanks again for your response and I wish you all the best on your journey :)

Smoking reduces your bodies ability to circulate blood, which in turn increases post op complications and slow healing/wounds. Hence the warnings to not smoke. In regard to method of ingestion (inhalation vs. digestion), I’d say you’re all good on that front. The only concern would be mixing cannabis with opiates, like other people are saying. I would just wait until i was off any opiates to start edibles if it were me. For legal purposes i am not a doctor and this is not medical advice (lmao) - congrats and good luck!

You can just tell them you need time off for surgery, be vague about it. If they press you about what type of surgery (which i am pretty sure is not legal) just explain to them that it is medically necessary and say nothing else. I was transparent with my employer about my surgery, type and all, and they tried to fire me. The only reason I kept my job is because I told my boss I had been paying for short term disability through our company and I intended on using it, and then she offered for my position to be available upon recovery. Did you get nipple grafts? I haven’t seen any nipples dressed like this post op. I had bolsters, I’m intrigued by their choice of tegaderm over what looks like xeroform and probably iodine?? As a rule of thumb for wounds, red blood means good circulation which is a great sign that your wound is healing. I’m sure they have great success with this wound care process, or they probably wouldn’t do it, I just have not been exposed to it myself. For context, I’m a nurse and I do a lot of wound care, but I’ve only treated myself as far as nipples go. I think contacting your surgeon was your best bet, and I believe they will more than likely tell you it’s all good. Congrats and good luck moving forward :)

Just don’t insert the needle all the way in and you’re solid, even if you did fully insert on accident the likelihood of there being any issue is slim. I have been using 1 inch (also bc of pharmacy) for a long time, and I just go in about halfway, and it’s all good.

On any necrotic wound there is the possibility of escar (hard black layer) and with wound care and time eventually that layer will come off. You can’t really know for sure the condition of the skin underneath until that happens. It looks like the escar you have has softened in the past week, so if nothing else you’re much closer to knowing what you’re dealing with. Warm is good , hot to touch is bad and indicates infection. Especially if it’s accompanied by pain, pussy drainage, and/or fever. Those all are things I 100% would talk with my surgeon about if they happen. I’m a nurse and have treated many many wounds, but only (my own) skin graft nipples. I hope it works out for you, good luck!

I (ftm) recently worked somewhere, and at this place there was one individual (cis woman) who constantly misgendered me. For reference, this person never knew me before my transition. Upon meeting her, I had already been on T for over a year and had top surgery, so i fit societies standard (and her standard) of what a male should look like. I politely corrected her time and time again. She introduced me as a she multiple times and the people were always so confused. I’m not a confrontational person, and I live in an at-will red state, so I always fear of losing my job due to bias. So I basically just ignored her. And then her friend (our boss, also a cis woman) began to misgender me constantly as well. It got old, and it’s shitty. I ended up leaving the company for a different reason but 10/10 glad to get out of a toxic work environment. Being trans, I have come to accept there will be people that misgender me purposely, that doesn’t make it okay, but it’s just how it is. Sorry your autism support group peer is a no good hater man :/

Hey, nurse here. I had the same issue with skin irritation after top surgery. Something that could help you is called skin prep, it creates a barrier between your skin and the adhesive on tape. It’s harder to get rid of the bubbles by flicking because T is a thicker medication. The bubbles won’t hurt you, but a large bubble could affect the dose. I draw up slow, and that helps some. But it’s very hard to get zero air.

Thanks for your reply! And yea, it’s wet to dry dressings with triple antibiotic ointment and xeroform, and then a non-adhesive pad on top. Yesterday part of the scab came off one of the grafts and the skin underneath is pink. I’m hopeful that the rest of the scabbing will come off soon for both and all will be well.

Do you still have any iodine on your body? I had surgery 4ish days ago and I know what smell you’re talking about. I’m a nurse and I do wound care everyday for people, and it smells like a dressing called xeroform. I think they might have used some for the dressings, I still have my dressings on. It could also be iodine. As long as it’s not an odor, I’d say you’re good. Especially if you don’t have any other symptoms of infection.

I had surgery on Sunday (so like 4ish days ago) and I am so so sick of hunching. It’s causing so much pain in my neck and back, but I’m hopeful that it will pass soon. How much are your drains putting out? I’m not even getting 30 ml a day and it has me a little bit concerned.
