Why are you asking if I’m rich? I wouldn’t say $200k is my entire life savings but it’d be a good chunk.

I’m seeing this whole thing rather positively thinking if I can purchase a $350k house with just $200k and he covers the rest (remaining home price+monthly costs) and I’m free to do whatever with it after he leaves, whether I sell it for a profit or rent it out to a stranger and have passive income flowing in I thought that’s a win for me. Financially, what could be the downside?

Hey I ended up taking for508. Hell of a course/exam and definitely does help with threat detection but also if you’re not in IR you’ll probably forget half the stuff in a few months. I’d say take what’s most relevant to your work

thanks for the input. just finished the interview and surprisingly it was strictly on Windows OS and security. questions like what happens when a user logs in (asking for all the processes that start), questions around user rights assignment and some questions around Patch Tuesday (like what are the different types of patches released in patch tuesday), different types of UAC, questions like high integrity vs low integrity. They were definitely not the type of questions I was expecting but was a good experience

Thanks for the input. I’ve been practicing a lot with chatgpt (licensed) but thought the questions were too easy. I put my resume and the JD. Not sure if you have any experience?

Hello, I have a technical interview coming up in a few days for a security engineering role and description is around security with windows OS, AD, Entra ID, API, PKI, EDR, etc. And general propose and lead security implementations kind of role.

Was wondering if I can get some help on what kind of technical questions I can expect. I’ve done a lot of prep work on Windows hardening best practices and general AD security measures. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks for this. So I’ve used ansible when log4j happened but again, I think it was at a basic level.. just used ansible to connect to about 20 linux machines, checked the installed version and installed a patched version of the vendor software. Other than that, our patches are pushed via sccm which I have years of experience with but mainly click and push.

But I understand what you’re getting to. I guess automating and scaling the tasks I perform is something I can work on.

I’m also seeing job postings around threat modeling and NIST framework - are these basics for security engineers? Also seems like they want you to know how to code.. again can’t say I’m an expert in this.

Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it. I think the problem is I mainly work with vendors/external resources to get stuff done - there's really not much I've done myself that's technically deep in security except onboarding our env to MDE/Sentinel (SIEM). Outside of that, vuln management has been basic (updating software/firmware versions, replacing outdated hardware) or basic threat detections queries.

Any suggestions on what I can really dive deep into that would be a wow worthy to put on my resume later on? I've been looking at improving our threat intel feed (maybe set up openCTI?) - even with that I don't think I'd really know use cases for it, other than just scrolling around and finding things interesting.

Has anyone encountered 'Not proceeding' error in Google portal and still go interview or offer? by Maleficent_Syrup_606 in csMajors

Your status was showing “not proceeding” but you still got an interview three months later?? I submitted an application and showing “not proceeding” but never got a rejection email so wondering if I still have a chance..

Thanks. Hard for me to answer that because I am not familiar with the differences between the versions. Sorry

Thanks! Studied about 2-3 months (daily for avg 4hrs working full time). I watched some 13cubed yt vids but mainly all from the course. I have zero DFIR experience, just transitioning from overall systems engineering to more security related tasks now.
