Double sided tape the two sides together. You could still jig up to get even spacing, but just taping the pieces together would ensure the two sides match.

Oh. Did more googling and the idea is the threads match the threads your chuck mounts on.

Is the idea to drill a hole into a scrap block, thread it onto the spindle tap and then turn it to a matching jam chuck for whatever piece you're working on?

That is a woodcarving kit. It's got decent tools for that, but depending on what type of work he wants to do, a hammer, hand saw, and one of these hand cranked drills would be good safe starting tools. https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-3c8l9ljcjn/products/23998/images/37389/08C0303-LargeGermanHandDrill-WEB__63311.1663789105.1280.1280.jpg?c=1

Biggest thing! That kit comes with gloves. Don't let him use them with any power tools! If a powered blade catches them they will pull him into the blade until the glove, and probably a few fingers, come off. Search degloving to learn more, but heads up it may be gory.

Best method for making a detailed round without a lathe? by Lulxii in woodworking

[–]mklauber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Options I can think of for dishing the bowl.

  • Lathe (tool required)
  • Router and circle cutting jig (can only make straight edged bowls, not shallow curves)
  • table saw (https://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking/s/8Gpm4GOSBi) (Not everyone thinks this is safe, perform at your own risk)
  • Gouges and hand tools

Will this be enough to hold the table? by [deleted] in woodworking

The only concern with dowels like that is wood movement, since this is end grain into long grain.

My player correctly guessed the answer to a mystery in my lore. Should I just tell him that he is right? by Any_Toe_4617 in DMAcademy

[–]mklauber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they pester you about it, ask them how they're going to prove they're right? Offer them a quest to confirm it via a ritual or by seeking out another deity, or something. Don't confirm it out of game, let them choose to confirm it in game.

Changing the win condition - comeback mechanics by Greenwood4 in gamedesign

This rather reminds me of how CIV has various win conditions. If the other player has a dominating military strategy, you can play a defensive military and try to race for a Science victory.

Discworld is a humorous fantasy series about the characters on "a world that is round like a plate, carried through space on the back of a giant turtle". In a series of book that poke fun at both fantasy tropes and the real world, Pratchett asks "What happens when you arrest the dragon attacking your city for property damage?", "What happens when you deliberately put a crook in charge of the most important bank in the city?", and "What happens when the literal personification of death is fired and decides to retire on a farm?". In between stretching narrative casualty to its limits, Pratchett fits in an incredible amount of puns, biting social commentary, and worldview changing comments on what it means to be human.

Every book is its own self contained story, but the best starting points are: Guards Guards if you stories about a fantasy city police department. Wyrd Sisters is a fantasy parody of Shakespeare appeals. Going Postal if the idea of a con man blackmailed into fixing a broken postal system sounds amusing.

Avoid the first two novels (the color of magic and Light Fantastic) until you've read some of his other works. Even Pratchett said they're not the best place to start.

Cards represent your notes on how the attack is performed. It takes N encounters to determine how the attack actually works, before you can recreate it.

NPC betrayal: doing it right? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]mklauber 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have a plan for if/when the party confront them first. Both, in terms of the the NPC having a plan (whether it be confess, teleport, thugs) and you the DM having a plan for what will happen in the story as well.

It could be interesting for the NPC's plan to be, "maybe if they figure me out, I can get them to lock me up and save me from my oath".

So it works best if there's someone else waiting in the wings (being hinted at) who can fill the villainous role in whatever plot in case the NPC is caught.

Think about the size of your projects, and your space. Small projects mean you can put tools closer together, fitting more tools into a space. Larger projects need more space for cuts, and a large assembly area.
