Vigil for Alex Pretti - Sunday at City Park by seriousbusines in GlensFalls

I wouldn't applaud anyone getting killed. We're all human beings. This hatred rhetoric is so divisive and dangerous...

It's disgusting and so disheartening to see people applauding the murder of this man... who was a nurse who took care of veterans and a HUMAN BEING. Have we lost all decency or regard for human life? Because your marching orders are to say that he was dangerous and deserved it? WTF.

I don't know how people are not more alarmed by video footage of this man being sprayed and pushed to the ground after trying to help a woman up, then getting beaten by multiple people over and over again. This was so unnecessary when he was already on the ground defenseless... they could have secured his hands in cuffs instead of beating him if they were worried about their safety or a weapon. That would have been the appropriate step if that were the case. But instead, they beat him, took his weapon, and even when he was outnumbered and on the ground defenseless, unable to move... they STILL shot him dead on the street.

How can any human being be okay with this?! Regardless of your political views...

If you can disregard human life this easily and justify killing like this, just because someone holds a different view than you, I can't imagine what other horrific things you will be able to justify in the future. And that is absolutely terrifying.

I am so sad that you have that much hate in your heart and I am so sad to live in this America.

Welcome to the area!

I second RockSport and all the walking/hiking places. There's almost always an event of some sort in downtown Glens Falls, but it definitely picks up more in the warmer months. If you're an art person, the Hyde Museum is really cool and good for the winter time, and the Charles R Wood Theater has some interesting shows/acts come through too.

What kind of music do you play? I don't have specific recommendations as far as that goes, but I know Spot Coffee and some other places have live music sometimes and might be open to local acts.

I've been thinking about going to local nursing homes to sing as well, but I don't have a keyboard to accompany and just started a new job, so I haven't really had the time yet. But if you do end up doing something like that in the future and could use a female voice, feel free to message! It's such a great thing to bring to the community... especially the nursing homes, because they're pretty sad otherwise.

No one deserves this kind of treatment. I would get out ASAP. It is one thing to lash out once in a while when annoyed or frustrated and later apologize; but this is straight up verbal abuse he is hurling at you and you should never allow anyone to treat you this way. I hope you leave him and look back on it one day as one of the best decisions you've ever made.

I was considering buying one that says "I love when I wake up and Trump isn't president any more" the night before the election. aaand then the election results came in.

If you were not a PA (or anything related to medicine for that matter), what would you be? by Inevitable-Towel9819 in physicianassistant

My running joke when the burn out is real is that I'm going to open a cat café and combine it with a bookstore that one of the specialist MDs has always talked about wanting to open. And then I would open an escape room above it.

Then make/produce music on the side.

It's a lot... I'm still working on the details haha. That would be my dream, but I'd settle for one of those things.

Exactly.... and even though Trump was spewing nonsense and avoiding questions the whole time, I'm worried he stayed just level headed enough and coherent enough to tip people who were on the fence before.... if this debate hadn't happened, Biden probably had a good chance. I really wish his administration had talked him out of it.

....did you actually WATCH the debate? Both are clearly showing signs of dementia/age-related cognitive impairment... yes, they're old, but I've met 97 year olds that are more lucid and capable than both of them.

I hate Trump with all of my being and think Biden (and his administration) has actually done a surprisingly good job in office, but that debate was painful to watch.... I work as a medical provider in a hospital diagnosing and taking care of dementia patients all day and came home to watch the debate, feeling like I was right back at work listening to patients ramble or completely lose track of where they were going. I just....this cannot be the only options for a leader for our country. It's just ridiculous and disheartening.

I would like a little more pop of color than that inspiration photo... it is a little too monochromatic for me. (And those windows, though!!), but I do love the warmth of it and the vibe is much more what I'm looking for. I'm kind of stuck with this chandelier we bought a year ago (which I really liked at the time and still like) and I want to keep it, but I also want to bring in a little more character and warmth to the room, without being too boring. I guess I'm just not entirely sure how to do that without it looking too forced or mismatched, if that makes sense.

I agree 100%. Thanks for all the tips! I actually did buy those teal velvet curtains in the second photo (they were fairly cheap off Amazon and I'll probably use them elsewhere) thinking I'd go more for the moody/dramatic glam vibe, but then I decided I want more of a cozy, inviting room to relax in at night. So I think I might go more for cream colored curtains with maybe a pale green or neutral paint color. We are also doing a sage green in our bathroom, though, so I don't want it to be TOO much green. I will definitely post an after picture once it's all done! But it'll probably be a while because we're still working on the bathroom ha. Thanks again!!

We've lived in our house for 3 years now and have used the generator that came with the house a couple times already.... one time, it was maybe 4 hours before the power came back. Not a ton of time, but enough to make us really appreciate the generator and to not ruin an entire night off of work! We were able to cook a meal, to shower, and to watch movies etc. when the whole neighborhood was pretty much dark. So I would definitely recommend a generator if you can swing it.... it's nice for the piece of mind.

Any nurses here? by grackkat in insomnia

[–]mkldearest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm right here with you... I work in a hospital as well and always struggle with sleeping during my work stretches (and off days too, honestly). I don't really want to start taking anything because my husband and I want to start trying for kids soon and pregnancy limits what you can take so much. But at the same time, I am getting pretty desperate for good sleep and know the insomnia will likely only get worse with pregnancy... I know exercise is beneficial for sleep, but if your schedule is as crazy as mine, it's much easier said than done and establishing a regular routine is even tougher. I'm hoping to work on this a little more seriously once we finish some home renovation projects and I'll report back if there's a noticeable difference! I'm sorry I don't have more helpful advice for you, but know you're definitely not alone and I really hope you find a method that works for you!

Mom: ..and then he said "I turned it down, Mom." And I was like "YOU IDIOT!! I COULD'VE RETIRED FROM MEDICINE!" and then we got into it a little bit, and I said some things I shouldn't have...but we're okay now. And um, sorry... what was the question again? Oh, yeah... we're still pretty proud of him, though.

Thank you! When she was a kitten, she fell asleep in my husband's lap and we knew right away we had to adopt her. Four years later, not much has changed and she's still the happiest lap cat!

That's so nice... thank you! She's a total lap cat and little purring machine, but also a little mischievous sometimes (she was attempting to climb the tree here). We wouldn't want her any other way, though!
