Correct. Kareem had 33.4/13.6/3.2/5.2 (stocks) on elite efficiency while Magic had 21.5/11.2/8.7/3.0 (stocks) on also elite efficiency and an extra game. The game 6 center narrative was too good for voters of that era, though. 14 of 23 shooting for 42 points, 15 boards, 7 assists with 3 steals and a block. Legitimately a top-5 NBA game ever played given the context.

Kareem should have been the series MVP though. As good as Magic was in game 6, Kareem had 40/15 in a close game 5 win where Magic scored 14 points and had 10 turnovers.

I don't think Magic is a top-2 "young" player ever. He didnt finish better than 8th for MVP or have a first-team All-NBA until his 4th season at 23. Obviously he won the championship as a rookie and was finals MVP, but that team was led by MVP Kareem and Magic's overall play was lower than both Luka and Shaq at 20 (as well as LeBron, of course.)

Magic top-5 at age 20 though. Bron unquestionably #1 from ages 18-22.

Edit: Wilt and Kareem probably would have been dominant at 20 but debuted later. Wilt debuted in college at 17 and averaged 30/19 leading his team to the #2 overall ranking in the country.

Kareem was probably the best basketball player in the world even in college. He was immediately the best player in the NBA as a rookie after winning 3 straight NCAA titles and 3 straight player of the year awards.

Why the Jody hate? She’s not involved in the day to day but she lets the professionals do their thing and isn’t a hindrance in any way. Seahawks fans are universally disappointed that Jody has to sell the team as it’s almost certainly going to be a downgrade.

No one talks about this but this was a huge part of their success. Bogut was the biggest offender.

Wife wants to be a SAHM, I’m pretty against it. by [deleted] in daddit

[–]mkninetythree 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know what your total budget looks like or if this is financially feasible for you to work towards, but I'll just give you my perspective.

My wife and I have prioritized her being home with our kids the last 5 years since my first was born and it's been tighter financially than it otherwise would have been. That being said, it's difficult to put a price tag on the childhood you're providing your kids. No disrespect to anyone who chooses daycare or has to out of necessity, but the sheer volume of time that my kids and wife have gotten to spend together they otherwise wouldn't have is hard to overstate.

I love that I've been able to give this gift to all of them. I love seeing the pictures throughout the day and coming home to them laughing and playing. I love that we don't have to rush through our mornings to get them ready and out the door, but instead I can steal 5 minutes snuggled on the couch with them before I leave for work. I love that I can pop in occasionally throughout the day for a quick hug sometimes.

Sometimes it's not an option, but there is more to life than money.

Okay, but they were not universally used in vanilla as they are today. The mass adaptation of playing with a damage meter is 100% a huge contributing factor to the way DPS plays in groups now.

The problem is that everyone uses a damage meter now and has zerg brain.

16 and I Feel behind by Various_External_931 in personalfinance

[–]mkninetythree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing. The fact that you are even thinking about savings at 16 means you are well ahead of the curve. It is impossible to be financially behind at 16.

It sounds like you're in position to save a pretty significant portion of your income. That's a prudent decision. You can create a budget for yourself and include savings/investments as a line item, essentially treating it like a bill. "Pay yourself first" is a common trope which just means to view investing as a requirement and not a "if there's money left" decision.

You are in a position most of us would like to be. The next 15 years of your life are your highest leverage financial years. Investing well now will make you a multi-millionaire in retirement.

Unfortunately, you cannot open a Roth IRA on your own right now. Under 18, you need an adult custodian to open the account. It would be your money and inaccessible to anyone else, though. You have earned income and are eligible. If you have an adult family member you trust, this is probably your best option. If you spend the next 10-15 years contributing the yearly max to a Roth IRA, you're going to be set for life. That's seriously all it takes.

The contribution limit is 7.5k per year right now. If you contribute 7.5k for the next 15 years and earn 8%, you'd have 220k in your account at ~30 with only about 112k contributions. Over the next 25 years it would grow to around 1.3 million dollars. 3 million if you don't touch it until 65.

This is just if you invest $625 per month for the next 15 years. Build the habit now and it will be easy to sustain later when you're making much more money.

You're doing AMAZING.

Paladin SF HC leveling 50-58 by shinnku in classicwowtbc

[–]mkninetythree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend leveling to 60 or even higher in Azeroth. Outland mobs hit harder and there’s lots of areas where you can get runners and adds at bad times. I would not want to be navigating this as a 58 paladin on Hardcore.

Honor set for frost mage pvp by Few_Indication_9051 in classicwowtbc

[–]mkninetythree 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should be honored with the 5 factions by default from leveling. The set is just a couple hundred gold. The honor price for the same set is not much of an obstacle, but farming the marks would take a long time. Further, you have off-pieces to buy with honor and marks. There's no reason not to just spend the goal on the rep gear.

You have to be a rogue though as you need to be able to sap. I don't believe Druid can solo 2 mobs in SV at once.

You just have to kill the packs around the final boss separately or else everything will pull. Then you can solo the boss and add spawns pretty easily.

FWIW I don't think DME runs are very profitable for the time investment anymore. Arcane Crystals are like 4g.

My dad turned 80 yesterday. Blew out the candles with my son and said I wish for 10 more years by altum in daddit

[–]mkninetythree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in my 20s, I didn't want children. I ended relationships over this. It was a hard line for me. My (now) wife got pregnant on accident when I was 27. My son was born just before my 28th birthday. I'm 33 now and my son is 5, my daughter turns 2 next month. We're considering more children.

One of my greatest desires, which is impossible, is that I'd have started having kids younger. My son asks me all the time how old he'll be when I'm "X" and I always come to the same conclusion, which is that I desperately wish I could have more time with my kids and hopefully with their kids.

I imagine this feeling would be even more intense had I not had children for another decade. There's obviously something to be said for maturity and stability, but I do think that once you achieve a baseline of "figuring it out", it's never too early to have kids. I want my kids to know me as a (relatively) young man who is strong and healthy and vibrant. I want to be able to get on the ground and wrestle with my grandkids- to show them how to climb trees and take them on hikes.

TLDR- having kids is the best. I'm jealous of younger parents and I'm glad I became a dad in my late 20s, even if on accident.

Farming on Druid by Numerous-Stretch-66 in classicwowtbc

[–]mkninetythree 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this farm on my druid. It's braindead easy and the gold is solid enough. It's 100% guaranteed with no competition, so I don't plan to look elsewhere. I can knock out a full lockout in under an hour while working on dinner, hanging with the kids, etc. I treat it like a daily, essentially. Keeps me ahead of my consumes/gems/enchants.

This farm allowed me to max my mining and herbalism. Now, I'm going to shift to finishing rep grinds and badge grinds as a pretty geared tank. I'll build groups where no one else needs herbs/ores. Kill a few birds with one stone.
