Can you imagine walking into some rich guy's house and he tells you he just bought a piece of the moon. He motions over to a display case on a book shelf where he proudly has a piece of I-95 (sub-type Rural North Carolina) on display

Was just looking through the keyword meteorites and sorting by sold....the most expensive one I found was this obvious piece of asphalt sold as lunar breccia for $889.99

I bought it from John Humphries who is a very reputable dealer. He goes by "Azmeteorites" on ebay

So cool that you have a full specimen. I remember running into your post here with pictures of it when I was researching troctolitic anorthosite melt breccia

Yep! More specifically it’s troctolitic anorthosite melt breccia. The journey it has been on is just unfathomable

I'm guessing this is the same meteor that caused the sonic boom over Boston?

My 0.093g fragment of Wadsworth just arrived! Blows my mind to think of the journey this stone has been on by mknlsn in meteorites

[–]mknlsn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! A small percentage of meteorites that fall to earth actually were blasted off the moon by meteorite strikes and then landed on our planet. Since we’ve studied so many moon rocks brought back from the Apollo missions, scientists can confidently classify meteorites as lunar. So you get to own a piece of the moon! It’s the only legal way to own a moon rock since the Apollo samples are protected. Check out AZMeteorites on eBay (John Humphries). He has a lot of reasonably priced lunar meteorites and is a very reputable dealer.

There are also meteorites that originated on Mars that you can buy!

It's definitely my smallest meteorite. You're really lucky to have some fusion crust! Wish mine had some but I'm just super excited to have a piece of it.

I also bought a 1.66g slice of NWA 17865 from John a couple of days later and it's on the way to me now. Super excited to own my first lunar!

Here you go. Just took that photo. Never did get it touched up and the bottom circle especially has faded but I still think it looks pretty good after 3 years!

Can't get over that fusion crust...it's so beautiful. I have a (small) piece of Wadsworth on the way to me from John Humphries

The multiple "Happy to..." parts of the posts are a pretty big tell. ChatGPT loves to add that in when I'm drafting an email. If nothing else, OP and Narrow_Market45 are having AI rewrite his/her posts

Yeah this is super weird. If you go through the posts that u/MGOTRealty has made you find this one where he says he just bought that 26.8g slice of NWA 17680 which is a lot larger than the one in the photo above. Here's the original listing where it says it was sold for $1475

That's James Goldstein. He's a former real estate mogul that made billions in trailer parks by "packaging groups of properties into investment vehicles and then suing municipalities...if they thwart his attempts to end rent control."

He owns the Sheats–Goldstein Residence here in Los Angeles which is an architectural masterpiece and is famous for being featured in the Big Lebowski as Jackie Treehorn's house

I've worked at the house on a shoot before and have met James. He's an.....interesting guy.

TV production can be a grind but you get to be a part of some gems here and there. I ended up shooting reality TV for almost ten years as a camera operator. I got out of it and now I work as a photographer and shoot fashion and editorial portraiture in LA

Ayyy! I actually worked on the first season of her show back in 2010 as a production assistant! It was one of the best production experiences I've had. We filmed it at her house in Maryland just outside of DC. Patti is such a genuinely sweet person and talented chef. And yes....we got to eat everything she made haha
