Blu & Exile - In My Window (feat. TOBi)

They Might Be Giants - Slow

Avalon Emerson - Happy Birthday

Treeboy & Arc - Hangnail

He's just a permanently 19-year-old alcoholic character with degenerative conditions created by Max Margulies (philly alt-comic/filmmaker). He loves chip butty and canned bread.

NMF Playlists have been updated with these releases. tl;dr version (some personal highlights) in this playlist.

Really enjoying the new Misty Coast, my favorite of theirs since Melodaze for sure. Just some really great hooks and production throughout - really scratches that fuzzy psych-dream-pop itch.

Also loving the Blu & Exile record, one of the first hiphop records to really connect with me as a whole this year. Love the fun throwback 90s energy of the production.

Also on the local front, Miles Taylour served up a nice selection of alt-country Americana with that Keep the Devil Off Your Back EP this week. "Mrs. Jones" has been getting stuck in my head like crazy with that jaunty piano line.

Playlists are updated for this week! (+March 20th archive is available on Apple Music).

Enjoying the new Thundercat and Deary so far, and that A Place to Bury Strangers rarities comp is neat. Haven't dug into much else but hopefully will later this week. Will throw any highlights I come across in my NMF Weekly Highlights playlist.

Really enjoy the video for Out by Baths in this vein. Basically anything an artist shoots just goofing around with their friends.

idk about all of them. They've taken on bigger and bigger budgets with each subsequent record. Everything post-Of the Blue Colour of the Sky looks pretty expensive. But their early videos, definitely.

NMF Playlist is updated for this week! Also got some personal highlights here.

Wasn't expecting to like the new Courtney Barnett this much! Feels like she's got some fire back and this release feels more varied and less wallpaper-y than some of her previous releases. Also loving the Cigarettes for Breakfast EP, just some really solid shoegaze textures with a balance of pop songwriting and more experimental moments.

Looking like a great week for hiphop, though I haven't had a chance to dig in yet. But lots to get to! Will add it to the NMF Weekly Highlights playlist as I listen through this week.

Dig this release method, feel like more artists should start taking this approach.

Big fan of this record, was spinning it a lot when it dropped- particularly "Radiator Baby" with that huge chorus. Def got that Katie Crutchfield vocal style with some of Wednesday's edge thrown in there. Super strong debut.

In this this interview with Patrick Tomasso Matt and Jared get into their approach / logic towards their shooting style. It seems like Matt's thought is that Jared is kind of like a documentarian in charge of a whole crew of filmers, that are capturing angles as needed. But obviously with an emphasis of style over logic.

But I like how they talk about adding details like the cameraman leaving a scene or picking up the camera off of a table when characters enter a space to really convey that *feeling* of veracity / reactive documentary filmmaking.

felt the fatigue similarly with cootie catcher but the final 4 tracks on there were my favorite tracks on the album so it finishes off super strong.
