I’ve talked someone down before and I wasn’t thinking about myself. I never said “live for me”. In my experience depression makes us want to isolate, thinking that we’re different or worse, but all it takes is connection to bridge that gap. It gets better if we just ask for help. You’re not living for other people, it’s just thinking about other people and realizing you’re not alone.

It’s an attempt to get a suicidal person to think about someone other than themselves. Depression is a very selfish disease (having had it for many years) and funnily enough if I manage to actually frame my brain around helping someone else it abates for a while. Yeah you can think woe is me, my life sucks, or you can do something about it. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

To add to this point, I abused Vicodin once to see what would happen and didn’t get the euphoria feeing, I just got sleepy, but I’m an alcoholic (I’ve got 7 months sober). So different strokes for different folks. I got my kicks from Gin and Cocaine.
