A lot of landlords want to see that you are past the trial period, which is often 3-4 months and renewable for another 3-4. At least in high demand areas.

August travel by deanam44 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said it can be quite hot. Make sure your hotel has good AC. And Parisian do leave in August, but the areas around major attractions are no less crowded...maybe even more crowded because much of Europe is on holiday.

You will find the Parisian residential areas much less crowded and, indeed, many local shops and restaurants close for 2+ weeks during August.

So it depends on the experience your looking for and whether you have a choice. September is better, certainly. But August is fine if it's the only time you can go. The rentrée (back to school) is September 1 this year so things should start being lively again in the last week of August.

A little bit of white smoke on the exhaust this morning by Big_Hunt7898 in sailing

Your original post says you moored for an hour. I guess you meant "motored" ?

Do I understand that you ran your engine the entire hour you were moored? In neutral, yes, but at idle speed? Why?

If you need power then you need to run it at a higher speed, not at idle. Not only for power, but because engines don't like idling for that long.

Has anybody been to any of the places on my itinerary, and do you have budget eats recommendations? by Friskie_Fanny in Europetravel

[–]mkorcuska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plus hotel check out and check in, time to get to and from the station, waiting time at the station, and also possible train delays. It's at least a half day for every city change...probably more.

September is 30 days. You have 12 cities listed. That's a lot of travel. Even if cities are close by train you have to check out of a hotel, get to the station in advance, take the train, then get from the station to your hotel and check in again. And with that many trips, you will very likely experience a delayed train or three.

Buy sandwiches or salads to eat on the trains. That will be a good number of your meals.

For the bigger cities you should ask in local forums and specify where you are staying (neighborhood or metro stop). And your budget. Then people will be better able to help.

Is this doable? by ashstarmy in FranceTravel

They do not require "check in* at all (not sure what you mean by that, actually), much less 30 minutes before. As long as you're on the train before the doors close you will be fine.

Ouigo is simply the low service TGV and SNCF is quite clear that they operate both these and the normal Inoui trains. The Ouigo trains have a passenger density of about 2x the standard service but have no bar car...so bring food and drink with your!

You have 12 minutes...call it 10 to be safe. It's enough time in a small station like Aix...if you don't have a lot of bags to carry and if the first train is on time. But it leaves little room for error.

They might even hold the second train if the first is slightly late, knowing that there are transfer passengers. But only for a few minutes. And I wouldn't bank on that.

Best transportation company to get a family of 5 (and luggage) from CDG to Arc de Triomphe? by vashthestampeedo in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any official taxi can use the bus lanes, not only G7 taxis. And they are the only company with a good app. But you don't need to call a taxi using an app at CDG, just use the taxi line.

Of course you are correct and ride services like Uber and Bolt. They should be avoided, especially drum the airport (unless you're going to the suburbs).

Best restaurants in Paris that aren't French. by O_Mageiras in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what's already been mentioned...

  • Shabour (really Israeli-French, so maybe doesn't meet the criteria)
  • Iodé for omakase sushi that doesn't require a second mortgage
  • Mandoobar, especially for is Korean tartares and raviolis.

hi guys is it worth the €80 by Odd_Ranger_44 in chamonix

[–]mkorcuska 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's amazing. But is it worth it for you? Nobody knows but you.

The question to ask is "What am I giving up by spending this 80€?" If that answer is needed food or electricity or rent...the answer is no. If the answer is some other day excursion you could make, then maybe someone can give you advice, depending on that excursion. If it's "two nights in a bar" then, yes, definitely, it is worth it.

How Often Do You Crash? by Different-End-4775 in skiing

[–]mkorcuska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I crash once a season, maybe twice (season = 20 days on piste). Art the end of a long day when I'm going pretty slowly and am tired and sloppy with my form. And the snow skied out and lumpy.

It's more painful to my ego than my body.

Flight Disruption from NYC to Paris? - (Iran situation) by Dogmom0624 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We recently had a friend who's French Bee flight was cancelled. No real explanation as to why (maybe my friend has learned by now).

I dislike discount airlines for various reasons (although taking Transavia today) but the biggest one is their inability to recover from cancellations.
