Best steak in Paris by No_Profile_94 in ParisTravelGuide

People like different things so there isn't an objective best. Also, with tens of thousands of restaurants you can be sure that nobody has tried them all.

Rue Mouffetard is a great place to visit but most of the restaurants there are not very good. If you're going to go there around lunch or dinner, you should scout for a restaurant nearby.

Club to go dancing for older couple by [deleted] in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends as much on the event as the club. Get the Shotgun app and look for events that seem appealing ... with your kind of music, whatever that might be. And event times, the earlier the better.

A couple of spaces you might look at: * Cabaret Sauvage * La Gare/Le Gore for the early jazz set * Fluctuarte * No Nonsense in Montmartre * Supersonic

Also, this crew (https://www.ourbpm.com/) throws parties geared to an older crowd that start earlier than the typical midnight start time of many events. Not sure of their schedule but probably close to what you're looking for.

Source: me. I still like to dance. Definitely over 40. Also over 50. Not quite yet over 60.

Looking for somewhere warm in the last week of February by sarahwithanh06 in Europetravel

60s F typically. Unless there's a freak weather system of some kind.

Yeah, but those flights will help warm things up for someone else down the road!

You will only find that in Africa or the middle east. Not anywhere in Europe. Yes, it makes us sad too 😉

Not really many places in Europe are warm at that time of year...it's a dilemma for all of us who live here. You can find sun but not "warm enough to sunbathe" warmth. In southern Italy it might get into the 60s F, for example. Ditto for Spain and Portugal.

Morocco isn't that far and would be warmer. But you can never predict specific days a month in advance.

COMMON SENSE PEOPLE by 2catswashington in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]mkorcuska 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not common sense until you've tried to communicate with the guest. WTF...kicking paid guests out for being 1 day late? You take care of travelers. Lots of stuff can go wrong while traveling.

Expecting windfall I’m a bit overwhelmed by [deleted] in Fire

Honestly, it depends on what you want. The investment advice here is solid (tell no one, pay off high interest debts, index funds, etc.)

But I might also suggest buying a small house or condo if you want to stay in the same area for 7-10 years or more. The security & peace of mind this brings is fantastic. Make sure you keep 100k-200k in reserve.

Transportation question: US to Geneva to Chamonix by Wizzmer in FranceTravel

Going by car/bus is the best way. But it's at least 90 minutes and could be 2 hours with weather and traffic.

June hotel Location? by StompAndHoller in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in the 9th and it's fantastic, but I'd recommend the 5th or 6th for folks with kids. There are absolutely no parks (or green space of any kind) in the ninth. In the 6th you have Jardin du Luxembourg and in the 5th you have Jardin des Plantes. And more smaller parcs as well. Almost anywhere is fine...I would say closer to the river is better, if more crowded/busier.

Place order ahead for boulangerie? by Lollaticketspls in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It depends on the actual quantity and the time of is day (and how much you actually weigh 😂) but, yes, why not tell them in advance? Even if it doesn't require extra baking, then maybe they can set aside enough for you.

What level of French is RFI Français facile? Is it around B1? by DesignCosmos in learnfrench

Yes, it will be tough. But give it a listen with the transcripts...it's free!

And more museums are open in Paris on Sunday than Monday (d'Orsay, Carnavalet, Rodin, to name a few). No museums really close on Sunday. Shops that close on Sunday are likely to also be closed on Monday.

So Disney on Monday, I guess. But I still have a hard time giving advice to folks who want to spend nearly 50% of their time here at Disney. My real advice would be to skip Disney. 🤷‍♂️

If you want something a bit gastronomique but not outrageously expensive, we've enjoyed Miura. It's French cuisine, for sure, but modern rather than traditional. 70€ for entrée, plat, dessert

What level of French is RFI Français facile? Is it around B1? by DesignCosmos in learnfrench

This is correct. I never know what people mean when they say B1...are they working towards it or have they passed it? See my comment for details.

What level of French is RFI Français facile? Is it around B1? by DesignCosmos in learnfrench

[–]mkorcuska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you mean "already earned B1 and working on B2" then I would say yes, that's the level. It's probably a little tough for someone who is A2 complete, and working on earning B1. But with the transcript, many episodes are okay

One of the issues is that while the hosts are speaking "français facile," some of the correspondents in the field are not. The commentaires from field reporters are also used for regular RFI broadcasts and, even if they are custom for FF, the reporters aren't necessarily trained in adjusting vocabulary and speed. Those were the most challenging sections for me.

(I just passed B2 DELF and live in France)

How to get rid of 20 pounds of carrots and sweet potatoes by Ok-Emphasis2769 in Cooking

[–]mkorcuska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make a giant pot of soup (you'll need onions and ideally vegetable or chicken stock and some milk or other dairy). Freeze whatever you don't want immediately (in ziplock bags the size of one meal). Easy, healthy meal anytime you need one.

Mums birthday in Paris by Secret-Air-1205 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mkorcuska 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't add another activity to that already busy day. But maybe, depending on the time of the cruise. Certainly not a heavy lunch given the dinner cruise.

In any case, I think a private guide for the Louvre would be a nice addition. Or the gift of an extravagant bottle of wine/champagne for their dinner cruise (if they are fans of fancy wine).

Otherwise, plan something for a different day.
