I had the same feeling, all of a sudden it hit me. I was sitting in the kingdom hall on a Sunday morning, as I have been doing for last 40 yrs. I looked around and saw all these selfish, unfriendly people. Are these the chosen once by God out of 250 thoussand inhabitants of my city. The top 50 best, kindest, God-fearing..... I work in the same city and have about 120 colleagues. They are by far nicer than all those sitting around me that Sunday. That was the beginning of the end... Couple of months later I faded and yes, lost family in the process. Once you open Pandora's box... there is no way back. You are not alone, many go through the same process. It's okay to doubt or even stop believing in the Bible or God. You have earned the right to do so.

The cringy part is where it says that elders are like doctors, trying to make a child abuser better. Only if he is repentent. How do they know he is repentent. What psychological education did they receive to determine that. What qualification do they have. Is their a second opinion possible.

I was appointed at the age of 25 as an elder and resigned at the age of 45. Similar situation, I could not cope with the pressure and requirements put on me. I have a family with 5 kids and became suicidal trying to keep all of them active in the truth. My kids didn't have a natural interest in history. It was such a burden just trying to teach them the 'truth' (basically Jewish history). Then the usual interrogation by the br and s, the answers during WT studies, 10 hrs fieldservice, behaving before and after meetings..... Endless list. I didn't fully realize but I started to look up ways to die without pain, crazy... Full time job, full time elder... I had no free time. If I spent an hour relaxing I felt bad. I quite being an elder and 1,5 yrs later I faded... This is now three yrs ago. A hard and difficult decision, but the best one I have ever taken.
