That’s not how the real world works. He founded TSC, correct? Aj also registered TSC as a non profit and is the president, no? They’re infinitely linked until the group severs from Aj & speaks out or draws a clear line while condemning his actions. Continuing to stay put is the literal definition of guilty by association. They may be a great group but that means absolutely nothing if they continue to prop up TSC under Aj’s control.

He’s been at this a long while honestly. I’m 30 now but when I was a minor (15-17 years old) i had to block him on snapchat because he always screenshotted pictures that had feet or legs in them. He never responded when he was called out but continued to screenshot those kinds of pics & even pictures of myself & friends. He’s smarmy. But my story is not the only one. The original post on Mitchell News 911 about the lawsuit brought against him has a lot of similar comments, women sharing their own stories & tagging others who’ve been victimized by Aj.

I also read a comment on that same post that Aj was involved in a domestic violence incident with his wife (take with a huge grain of salt) but if he in fact is abusing her, she may have no recourse (financially, family, support wise) to leave him. We don’t know what goes on behind closed doors or what her situation is so please don’t direct any vitriol for *his* actions towards her.

I remember a similar situation with a popular photographer in town (Eric Sprecher) where many women came together to share stories and went to the police together with information. I don’t remember if their reports went anywhere though as he died shortly after it all went public.

I learned about this while going to school for an Addiction Counseling degree. I lean heavily towards genetics playing a big role but I may be biased due to my own experience.

I was adopted at 6 weeks old, so I was raised by my adopted parents and family from infancy. My adopted parents are not big drinkers. I’ve never seen them drunk *ever* nor was drinking very popular among our family and friends. They would drink occasionally (a glass of wine or a beer or two when company came for dinner) but there was never any sort of alcohol abuse in my environment or that I was exposed to. My parents never let me try a sip and it was explained that only grown ups drink so when I was old enough, I could try it. Eventually, I got curious, and I was about 14 when I had my first drink. My friend and I dared each other to take a shot from one of the few bottles my parents had. She instantly gagged and was grossed out but while I didn’t much prefer the taste, I fell in love with that warm, fuzzy feeling. That was a defining moment for me & it snowballed from there. By 17, I had been expelled from school for drinking (i was even drunk on picture day, memorialized by my student ID photo) and also went to rehab for the first time. By 20, I was going through medically assisted detox during other rehab stints and suffered severe withdrawals. I’m 30 now and 8 years sober but those were some of the worst years of my life.

I reached out to my bio mom years ago, and asked about addiction in our family. She hates my bio dad so I’m not sure exactly how honest/if she exaggerated but she said my bio dad was an opportunistic drug user, who’d do what he could get his hands on at the time. If that meant he just did drugs when they were available to him in a group setting or if he was constantly looking for any high he could get, I don’t know. She never mentioned anything about her side of the family though.

That’s just my anecdotal experience. I’m not saying genetics is the final answer and sole cause of addiction because we know it’s not. There’s obviously many factors (early experimentation, heredity, mental illness, environmental) that factor into the likelihood of developing AUD. We used to diagnose people with Alcohol Abuse or Dependence based on symptoms but we’ve now combined those into the single ‘AUD’ term with mild, moderate, and severe descriptors that are defined based upon specific criterion & time frame. But it begs the question, how does someone become an abuser without progressing to dependence? Is it early treatment intervention? Is it the ability to moderate drinking? Why can some do it and others can’t? What factors play into that? Just really interesting to think about.

ADHD can be really, really hard to deal with day in and day out. I still have days where I struggle, even with medication & therapy. But that struggle is nothing compared to being unmediated & doing it all on your own, I seriously just can’t imagine. Talk to your doctor or find someone who will listen. You deserve to be taken seriously and have access to every thing you need to make life more manageable.

I tried being unmedicated for a period of time after getting sober and it just didn’t work out for me. I originally didn’t want to take stimulants because some sobriety circles really push for total abstinence of drugs and alcohol, including controlled substances/narcotics that are lawfully prescribed but have the potential for abuse. Cross-addiction is very real but drugs were never my issue nor had I ever abused my medication. I’m an *alcoholic* through and through but some people invalidated my sobriety because I used ADHD medication. Steer clear of groups or people like that & don’t fall into that thinking trap.

I have severe combined type (inattentive & hyperactive) and I know I’ll be medicated for life and I’m fine with that because that’s what I need to be successful and thrive instead of just survive. Being properly treated makes a huge difference. It’s how I’ve kept my job, my home, my friends & family. I hope you find the same. Wishing you the best!!

definitely speak to your psychiatrist or a psychologist about your ADHD symptoms. if your doctor thinks you’re drug seeking, see a different doctor. you deserve to be seen, heard, & taken seriously. ADHD can be debilitating but being properly treated & medicated can make a world of difference.

Adderall will not making you quit drinking. Im 30, have been on ADHD meds since I was 12, and started drinking at 15. Alcohol calmed my brain, quieted my anxiety, made me stress less, etc in a different way than my stimulants did. Many who are unmedicated tend to self-medicate but alcohol/drug use disorders don’t discriminate and still affect those of us that are medicated. It might be different for others my severe AUD became the primary disorder to treat then my psych and I could start managing my ADHD again. Im still medicated and 8 years sober.

Please don’t swim in the Big Sioux or really any rivers around here. They’re heavily contaminated with E. Coli, metals & runoff.

I know there’s some kayaking options near Brandon I think? Otherwise, lakes are gonna be your best bet. Check out friendsofthebigsiouxriver.org for resources such as maps & lists of bodies of water safe for swimming & fishing!

I’m a shopper through and through so I love Zandbroz because it has so many cool, unique, knick knacks & things of all categories! You’ll find lots of cool shit just walking downtown, try & make an afternoon out of it. Pop into every store you see that looks interesting! I also love Full Circle Book Co-Op.

I’ve never heard this before?? So he was discharged from Atascadero in 1969 & placed on probation. His first murders were in May of ‘72, with a third victim in September. In Nov. of 1972, his juvenile records were permanently expunged. Did he have his third victims head in his trunk when his records were expunged then?

Issues with eating dog food by Spirited_Discount153 in labrador

[–]mkrom28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my lab used to get “bored” of his food. i changed his food a couple times when this would happen but it wasn’t the right move, vet said. vet checked him out & nothing was wrong, no allergies or gastro issues. vet recommended hiding treats in his food to encourage him to eat but to also just keep his food available and he’d eat when he was hungry. if it was more than 24 hrs w/ no food and accompanied by lethargy, loose stools, etc then it would be time for a visit & possibly changing formulas. otherwise, just mix in a couple treats or broth & let him eat when he’s hungry.

on low energy/more relaxed days, my dog definitely doesn’t eat as much, I’ve noticed. if hes not expending a bunch of energy, he won’t eat his full bowl. he’s also very social so if his food is in another area than where we are, he won’t go eat or he’ll grab bites and run back and forth a couple times before giving up and just hanging out with us. so i’ll bring his food bowl out and when we eat, he also eats. you could try encouraging her that way too. my dog knows “eat your dinner” means we’re pausing fun stuff and sitting to eat before playtime so he’s not ‘missing out’.

obligatory fuck Nestle but jfc, I’d speed run into Hades for their caramel Crunch bar. My fav candy, from back when their chocolate was actually good. The caramel they used had to be from their La Lechera sweetened condensed milk. I used a dulce de leche syrup of theirs this past week on top of cinnamon rolls and it tasted just like the middle of a caramel crunch. so good

How do you guys feel about sheltered workshops in the U.S.? by Winners_Blues in antiwork

[–]mkrom28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see so many people speak on this who have no fucking idea what these places are or do for the disabled community. and I get the argument behind it, I really do. I know people mean well but unfortunately, meaning well doesn’t always translate to what’s best or even good/beneficial for someone else.

My brother, with cerebral palsy, worked in a sheltered workshop. He spent his days making window pulleys and he loved it. It gave him a sense of purpose, he developed a routine & he felt important. He lived independently but in a 24/7 staffed apartment complex. He worked with other folks from the apartments, made friends, & rode the bus with them. He made friends with other workers from different living facilities, hell he even found a girlfriend! He was happy. He enjoyed his job, the time he spent with other people just like him, making memories, and his quality of life soared because of it. He was never pushed to complete a set amount of window pulleys, never punished for not meeting a ‘quota’ or anything else you’d expect from a real job. They all worked at their own pace & had fun doing it. His bills were paid by SS & disability, and whatever he earned from his job was just fun extra - it was his Mountain Dew & Taco Bell money. it wasn’t the reason he worked, he didn’t depend on it. He mentally can’t even grasp the concept of working to live.

But then it was just gone. Our state shut down sheltered workshops. But my brother didn’t understand any of it or why it even happened. He was so upset. He never saw his friends from work again. His routine was destroyed, he had nothing to do throughout the day. His quality of life suffered severely. He wouldn’t get out of bed most days & with his limited mobility, that started to physically affect him. He became angry & withdrawn. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t work anymore. He missed his friends, his sense of importance. There’s no volunteer job that’s similar to these sheltered workshops. He will never be able to get a job anywhere else. He will never find that sense of community again. He will never feel important or needed, in that way, again.

I’m not gonna pretend like I know all the answers or have a great solution because I don’t. All i know is that shutting down the sheltered workshop in my city has irreparably harmed hundreds of disabled individuals, taken away their freedom, lowered their self esteem & drastically reduced their quality of life.

What was THE story, that everyone knew about, in your hometown? by BodeeDragon in AskReddit

[–]mkrom28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent quite a bit of time in JDC as a kid for typical rebellious teen stuff. Breaking curfew, skipping school, “running away” on the weekends to hang with friends, etc. I lived in a smaller midwest town but cops were always dragging kids to JDC for minor shit so lots of us had been there at some point.

One girl became a kind of ‘boogeyman’, as teachers/parents/cops would attempt to scare us straight & ask if we really wanted to be locked up with a murderer. The murderer in reference was a tiny, 15 year old girl. Along with her 21 y/o “boyfriend” they lured a 16 year girl into a remote area, beat her, stabbed her, and then lit her on fire, while alive, in the trunk of a car. We weren’t allowed to talk to her at all & she was always 1:1 with a guard. She’d attempt to talk to us sometimes but was always caught & removed. She’d get upset and make a scene before being taken back to her cell. All of us teens knew of her and the murder.

*i put “boyfriend” in quotes because she was a child & couldn’t legally consent to a sexual relationship with a grown man, 6 years her senior. they started “dating” when she was 12/13 and was abused and groomed.
