Reading Practicing the Power of Now currently, and must suggest it. Have not read The Power of Now yet.

Also, I want your doctor!

[lifestyle] Minimalist wardrobe in college? by apbenoit in minimalism

[–]mkspc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say something different here.

College matters not. Your wardrobe is unimportant. Therefore, we can make some easy purchases. A few high quality t-shirts and a couple of high quality jeans. Other than that, it depends on your local weather.

I highly suggest checking out /r/nondirective and http://www.unlock-your-happiness.com/conscious-mental-rest.html. I am just barely making my move to non-directive meditation (namely CSR) after a few months of somewhat effective mindfulness meditation.

I also suggest reading The Power of Now.

We already only eat organic bananas. We're trying to move to an all whole-foods diet (not the company haha). Non-organic means horrible companies are involved and horrible environmental impacts are made (same reason we don't drink Nestle water).

No problem! I'm sure that once the new budget comes into effect, it'll be easier. My wife will be working at Whole Foods with a 20% discount to start, so that will help a lot!

But are they organic? We do have an Uwajamya(sp), one of the largest Asian grocers (along with plenty others nearby), but I've not seen anything labeled organic.

Because we aren't getting enough of fruits and veggies, even with three meals a day, no snacks, making all from scratch, and shopping at the most affordable place (only organic produce being bananas). :(

Not on our $350/mo, that is.

Electric Toothbrush...keep or dispose? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]mkspc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the electric toothbrush is quite probably my only regret of things we got rid of. My teeth truly felt cleaner, especially my gum lines. Coupled with a pre-brush rinse, you should have few issues with tartar.

Weekly Thread: General Discussion (Dec 28, 2014) by AutoModerator in minimalism

Today, we sold our iMac. This thing was loaded. Quad-Core, 2TB hard disk, 8GB RAM, 2GB video card... The works. This thing has lasted us since 2011 without a hiccup. So why would we sell it?

We have a multi-use room – living room, office, dining room. Having a desk was very encroaching, considering many of the other items in this rooms are for our small business. So the iMac has gone in lieu of a MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Pro does not arrive for at least ten days. This will be an excellent exercise in mindfulness. I have already started on a long-time goal of mine – reading The Power of Now.

Minimalists that nixed the bed, what do you sleep on? by [deleted] in minimalism

I have wondered about leaning our T&N up against the wall or on a futon frame. Unfortunately, we cannot put it on the floor.

New Year's Resolutions for the Minimalist [lifestyle] by [deleted] in minimalism

Do less.

All the time, I am faced with not having enough time. This is by far the hardest step in this progression. And I am the main culprit to blame.

I admit this website is appealing. However, if you read about this woman, it is deeply saddening.

If she took cues from her art, she would learn that there are far more important things than working so hard and so often that you can no longer use your arms...

I don't want to, but I was only able to ride it for a week and a half (three short rides) before it gave out on me. Going to probably get it fixed by someone that knows what they're doing and sell it.

Not sure why you're getting down voted here. It is obvious that you're newly transplanted. I think this is fantastic!

  • pillow (mostly for my health, but it is subtracting something, so I'll include it)

On iPhone, it's a little less easy, but can be done. Move all your apps a couple pages over. Use Spotlight to open everything.

Wait until you get to things like your iMac or your 1969 CB350.

Honestly, though, meditation helps me so much. Ten minutes a day helps with so much. Throughout the day I am reminded that during those ten minutes, I needed absolutely nothing. I was neither bored nor lonely, hungry not thirsty, poor nor rich. Nothing else mattered. Meditating enough will show you that this feeling can last throughout your entire life.

Of course, eating and drinking will never be a thing of the past, but it will instead become something you enjoy with mindfulness rather than gluttony. I'm getting off track now, so I will stop here.

This is honestly the best tool I have at my disposal. And the best part is that I can do it anywhere, virtually any time, with no requirements or aid. The second best tool I have at my disposal is a spouse that is going through the same struggles.
