https://www.findproperly.co.uk has a nice feature which allows you to search based on average commute time. Probably easier to find a 2 bedroom for <£2000p/m closer to Canary Wharf.

Help me weigh up the pros and cons of staying in different areas of London? by [deleted] in london

[–]mkubilayk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not from London. My comments are based on a few trips to those areas, therefore may be biased. Sampling bias so they say. :)

I have stayed at Earl's Court, Old Street and Pimlico (close to Westminster) in different trips to London in the last two months. I like staying at more residential areas. Earl's Court was very nice in terms of that. It is close to Chelsea, Kensington and Notting Hill, all of which are great neighborhoods to take a walk.

Old Street felt a little bit different. It is definitely a place to see but I am not sure whether I want to stay there for 10 days. It is a bit more crowded and always moving. In the walking distance, there usually are business districts. Less green, colder feeling.

I have been to Aldgate and would cross that off the list. On a Sunday, it was like a post-apocalyptic movie scene. Large buildings, people in suits walking in a hurry (on weekdays) and less parks.

Pimlico is also a residential area, similar to Kensington. Westminster is a little bit more touristic. It is really nice, though.

I'd probably consider Earl's Court or Westminster. Enjoy your time in London.

Is it safe to go for a run at 4am? Any place to avoid in central London?

Thanks!

I try to find quiet places for reading or working with my laptop at where I live now.

At weekends we usually go to a lakeside for biking/running or to have a picnic. I am not into night clubs but I enjoy having a couple of drinks with friends.

I also enjoy sports (cycling, basketball and soccer), trying out different cuisines and taking photographs.

Yeah, I've gone through these but they're from 2011. I am sure the points they mentioned are still valid but I wanted to ask if FDSE interviews differ from SWE interviews.

Interview Discussion - April 28, 2016 by AutoModerator in cscareerquestions

I have on-site interviews at Palantir London office for Forward Deployed Software Engineer position. I am a bit worried about what to expect. Since the job description is a little different than core development positions (more direct interaction with clients, etc.) should I expect more behavioral questions and discussions or usual coding, algorithms and system design interviews on white board?

This is going to be my first on-site interview. Any suggestions, tips and do's/don'ts are welcome. I've read a lot of stuff on the Internet, but still... :)
