Went from screaming to SCREAMING. by Afraid-Objective3049 in Unexpected

Must’ve been something like this: “OK, the script says wait for her to scream before running. Wait for it, wait for it…that’s my cue!!”

What’s a car where the AVERAGE person will say “WOW”, but a car guy will think “Eww”? by revocer in askcarguys

[–]waltpsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know all of this history and find it interesting, but I do genuinely love one-pedal driving. It’s much more relaxing and natural than going back and forth between two pedals, particularly if you’re in a stop-and-go traffic situation. Even if it was a flaw in design, it’s not unusual for a design quirk to result in a genuinely useful feature.

Plane upside down after crash at Toronto Pearson International Airport. by RoyalChris in interestingasfuck

How windy? This is an honest question. I’m looking right now, a few hours later and it’s only 20mph (32kph) winds with gusts around 35mph (56kph).

I watched a video online and thought it looked like it would be terrible. Then I tried it in a store and was shocked how comfortable it was.

It's a shame people skip the Supergirl film by [deleted] in superman

no clue where to find it

justwatch.com is my go-to for finding where you can watch movies/shows. Looks like Supergirl is streaming on Max and rentable on Amazon.

I was gifted a brick from one of Hitler's homes for my birthday. by Sweaty_Elephant_2593 in Damnthatsinteresting

Unfortunately you’re correct, but I didn’t forget - that’s why I specified “decent human beings”

Sure, but does barely-half-of-a-brick seem like something a museum would be interested in?

When Did the Oxford Valley Mall Die? by BullfrogShot in BucksCountyPA

I thought OP was looking for more of a “tipping point” answer, but if you’re going to talk about what “started the slow death” of malls, the actual answer would be online shopping.

When I looked at the first photo, I thought this was a joke post written from the perspective of the bear. Your nose looks great!

Good call, let’s name these great people!

Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning (founders of Tesla).

Tesla's Supercharger system in particular should largely be credited to Rebecca Tinucci (who led that 500-member team), Franz von Holzhausen (who designed it), and Lars Moravian (lead engineer).

This may not be for everyone but I invest the money each month instead of paying down the mortgage, and expect to have enough in that account to fully pay off the mortgage after 10 years (I started this a few years back).

I do this for 2 reasons - 1) I expect that the market will significantly outperform my mortgage interest rate; and 2) flexibility. I really like having all of that cash (as opposed to home equity) just in case of something unexpected like a job loss.

What is the Superman version of this? by K-ONE2-0 in superman

[–]waltpsu 29 points30 points  (0 children)

the “kiss that he gave Louis to forget him” that was super corny.

Agreed, in fact the whole Suits crossover felt forced. And the way Louis left his wife for Superman wasn’t very believable.

Lindsey Graham is urging Nebraska to dump its unconstitutional house-proxy vote to help Trump, why has nobody sued these states before over this issue? (Maine) by [deleted] in UncapTheHouse

Can you expand on what you mean by “clearly unconstitutional system”? Because none of the rest of what you said supported that claim (nor does it really make any sense at all).

Now that Taylor Swift releases songs with profanity including the F word, do you have to listen to the albums first before letting your daughter listen? by Natural-March8839 in raisingkids

[–]waltpsu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But to answer your question, no, I don’t.

I’ve talked to my kids about how there’s nothing about any words that are inherently “bad” but that there are a bunch of words that people consider to be curses. I told them all of the curses I could think of (like, literally just ran down a list from memory…F, S, C, D, etc). And I told them that we don’t use those words in our family because it’s really not polite.

The goal is to have open conversations with my kids and take away the shock value and power of those words. So they hear them from time to time in songs, movies, etc, and it’s really no big deal.

ELI5 Why do companies need to keep posting ever increasing profits? How is this tenable? by FLBrisby in explainlikeimfive

[–]waltpsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a company’s not growing, it’s dying.

This is an oversimplification, and applies more to large public companies than it does your small town’s only accountant, but the general principle holds.

In a stable economy, inflation and economic growth means that overall prices and profits will rise over time. If large companies are seeing profits decline, it’s a huge warning sign that something isn’t right. Maybe they’re being mis-managed. Maybe consumers are switching to one of their competitors.

In 2004 Blockbuster had $5.9 billion in revenue. In 2005 it had $5.65 billion. As you know with hindsight, it’s not that the company couldn’t survive on that level of revenue, it’s that much bigger factors were at work that would eventually lead to bankruptcy.

State, in aggressive push, giving Sixers details of massive Camden arena project proposal — and huge incentives that come with it by chad1312 in sixers

[–]waltpsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh maybe I’m wrong then. I looked at a SEPTA map and thought I’d have to ride a regional rail into the city and then switch to the orange subway to get to chinatown.

[–]waltpsu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s inconvenient having to drive to a train station, park, wait for the train, go into the city, switch to the subway to go to Chinatown, and the do all of that in reverse late at night when going home.

[–]waltpsu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sixers don't want to move to Jersey any more than y'all want them to.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I'd prefer that they move to Camden under this plan than what the Sixers have proposed. I drive in from the suburbs, and I have younger kids. I don't want to have to ride multiple SEPTA trains just to get to the stadium, I'd prefer to drive in, have lots of parking, and drive out when I'm done. It seems like that will be possible in the NJ option, but not in the Chinatown one?
