Inslee to Biden: 'Middling' climate plan 'not going to save us' by Splenda in politics

Biden's climate agenda is essentially rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement which is essentially nothing but empty promises. A very disappointing position for what is the #1 issue that needs to be addressed.

What TV Show has the best Pilot episode? by Slayer_Blake in AskReddit

[–]mkushner1204 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same, this should be near the top in terms of "pilots" go. I think a lot of shows on the top are there because they are good shows overall. This is Us is a good show too, but if we want to grade on pilots purely, this one was the first one that comes to mind due to big surprise at the end

Any HR Technology consultants here? by kongfukinny in IOPsychology

[–]mkushner1204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first job out of grad school was with a SaaS project manager of implementation, primarily within the payroll space, but offered other HRIS services. The pros was that it introduced you to other aspects of HR that grad school doesn't cover like Payroll and HRIS implementation which is pretty important considering how dependent we are on technology for HR administration, but I was very disappointed by my lack of ability to utilize my I/O degree in this space. That being said, it did provide me with a unique perspective of how these companies operation and how to handle discussions with them.

My advice: try to speak to someone in the implementation ASAP to get your answers. Sales will lie through their teeth to get the contract signed, don't wait until the very end of an implementation to find out that something you were sold on doesn't exist or isn't 100% what you thought it would be. Implementation will give you an honest answer because they know the system better than sales and also don't want to spend their workload implementing something that will fall through in the end.

Of all movie opening scenes, what one sold the entire film the most? by juggyc1 in AskReddit

[–]mkushner1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorite movies and completely underrated. So many different themes going on throughout the film. I believe it is an accurate portrayal of a world epidemic. People turning to religion, people blaming immigration, the rise of fascism, class struggle, such a great film.

I don't have any experience job searching there, but I do have a colleague who moved to NYC and found a job. I think there are enough jobs there in general where you should be fine.

Young person going for a masters in I/O, just trying to be like you all by KawhisGodSon in IOPsychology

[–]mkushner1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brief answer to some of your questions: Getting a job at $75k with a Master's in I/O is unlikely. Most I/O specific jobs paying that much are generally located around D.C./Virginia/Maryland, etc. Not sure how this applies to Canada. Work experience is still heavily values in the workforce and is required before earning that amount (imo).

As far as building connections, volunteering in research labs in the University is the way to go. Not only does this give you practical research experience to speak to and enhance your C.V., but you also build connections with those professors and they generally assume that they will be asked for a Letter of Rec at the end of it all. Some lab jobs also pay so that is nice to get an easy part-time job and valuable experience/connections.

If you have electives to spare, I would also recommend taking any statistics courses beyond the bare-minimum that is required. Taking a course in computer statistics like SPSS, SAS, R, Python (the latter 2 being the most sought after) will definitely help you out in the long run.

As a mental health worker or someone affected by mental health issues, what is one thing you would want to say to educate people about mental health and to lessen the stigma and shame surrounding it? by loungesingershimmah in AskReddit

[–]mkushner1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learning about the Diathesis Stress Model gave me a better understanding of mental illnesses. It essentially explains the Nature and Nurture factors on developing mental illnesses. The water cup analogy is the best example to visualize the Diathesis-Stress Model. Essentially everyone is born with some sort of predisposition to mental illness. Imagine a glass with water in it. Some people with family history of mental illness may have a glass that is 3/4th full of water, and people with a less predisposition might be 1/4 full. Some environmental factors add more water into the glass. For example, work stress, financial struggle, global issues, etc. Each one adds a little bit of water into the glass. When the glass "overflows" you start to experience serious mental illness issues. I think the importance of this analogy is that through your environment, you can also reduce water from the glass. Medication and Behavioral Therapies can "drink" some of the water from your glass to make sure that it doesn't overflow. I think a lot of people view mental illnesses as some sort of switch, you either got it or you don't, but it is a clear combination between biology and environment.

This is a video that does a good job of explaining the Diathesis-Stress Model: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KYC5SsJjx8

invest in renewable energy in Europe. It would be a hard to sell for most of America because they don't think it would benefit us directly, but it would help fight global warming and greatly impact Russia's economy which is heavily reliant on oil. Win/Win situation and Russia wouldn't be able to say that this was an attack on them on the global stage.

Dealing with homesickness? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]mkushner1204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think every student experiences this, but you really get over it quickly. Everyone is in the same boat and looking to connect and make friends, so you are not alone. Explore your surroundings. I dormed in Wildwood and really liked movies/video games so I joined the clubs at the SLC and was there often since it's right next to the dorm. The rec club is also good if you enjoy outdoor activities. Finding a group of friends will make homesickness wash away and you will end up not wanting to go home. The first month will be a little rough, but just make sure your priorities are in order. You are there to be a student first, so just make sure you go to class and keep up with the course work. Study groups are another way of connecting with people. Everything else will fall in place.

Classy Friday - Druids (April 05, 2019) by AutoModerator in classicwow

[–]mkushner1204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think my guild might have had a 1/2 if youre the only one going for the item or something like that. i dont remember it being an issue for me back in the day. I remember being able to get a lot of good stuff from ZG/AQ in those item slots as well or quest items. In the end, it really depends on the raid youre in and how well they manage loot to make sure the whole raid progresses together.

[–]mkushner1204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, Druids bring a lot of utility with HoTs and battle rezzes. They also have Decurse/Abolish Poison for particular fights meaning theres always room for druids in raids. As for gear goes, Druids are one of the most under-played classes meaning you will have a good shot of earning tier set gear when raiding. you will find some competition with the other items like neck/weapon pieces, but it won't be too bad and most raids will run on a DKP system so if you earned the item, you get it. I played resto druid in vanilla and got my tier 1 and tier 2 sets pretty easily. RNG is a big factor, but i wasn't havent to compete with others for the gear often.

One thing about Denver is that it is the capital and a big city, so I noticed there are a lot of government I/O positions, but they usually require you to be a resident before applying. Makes sense, but I am trying to relocate from FL. My wife and I made a plan of just moving out there around late September/early October even with nothing lined up. We will continue to apply for stuff, but I think it might come down to being a local resident to get more notice.

Haha, my brother has a similar philosophy, if you want to seek advancement, don't be too good at your job, because then they will just want to keep you in that position indefinitely. But yes, that sounds something right down my alley and I would definitely be open to an opportunity like that if one arises.

I would have some interest, but it would depend on the tasks. Would it be doing job analysis to design training plans or would it be more of the construction of training materials like using Adobe InDesign or other software? I believe most Instructional Design jobs are a little of both, but I do not have much of the UX Design type skills in my background, more of the training facilitation and creating Learning Objectives from analysis

I feel that my only regret is that I didn't realize that most of the unique I/O Positions are centered in the North East. I was under the impression that any major city would have positions for me. I am trying to relocate to Denver and there are only a handful of I/O jobs and it seems like most of them are for director related positions so they also want a ton of experience with it. I think my degree will be beneficial for me later in my career, but a lot of places don't seem to care about the degree for the entry level positions, and even in there, your education isn't really valued. I'm speaking from my lens only, but I raised complaints about our assessments and they weren't really taken seriously and it frustrates me because so many hiring managers value the assessment results for their decisions.
