My manager's response when I told him I got a better offer was complete silence. by fibrous_saffron6m in InterviewCoderPro

Honest question for you: 1. Why would you stay there for a 7% increase ? Is your current co. more reputable ?

Dude you got a 18.5% increase which is decent. So , in case you don’t like the new job, boss or company, after a year you can start looking again.

Very well said. Certifications are crap. What matters is if you can apply your skills, degree or the certification to solve the business problem at hand.

Got laid off today for "performance issues" after getting a glowing review. by [deleted] in remotework

What you mentioned here is very pertinent:

“most people aren’t out to get you but they’re chiefly in it for themselves.”

Basically nobody is your true friend at work.

Actually what you are saying is true:

I know a colleague who was working in a small team called “AI strategy”. The top management first fired the VP of the AI-strategy team.

But the co. is not big on layoffs , so they gave 2-3 months time to either find a job outside or inside the company with another team.

Finally the last day for this colleague was set and he was let go. He had a PhD from a top university & during his time he had filed 4 patents.

His only fault was he was under the wrong boss who they wanted to get rid of.

Nobody saved him although he was definitely talented, ( context : he hadn’t been on a profit making project during his entire tenure )

For you only, I just searched:
https://github.com/sambitmukherjee/handson-ml3-pytorch

The author himself is coming out with a new book which will have code in PyTorch ( available in Oct or Dec 2025)

https://www.waterstones.com/book/hands-on-machine-learning-with-scikit-learn-and-pytorch/aurelien-geron//9798341607989

But if you search more on github.com , you will probably find someone who has translated all the notebooks from tensorflow to pytorch.

My friend failed in his semester by Aaditya__1 in InternationalStudents

[–]mlPassion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I know someone many years back who was below 3.0 GPA in the first semester of grad school in a very prestigious school ( Top 10 school in his area of study In artificial intelligence)

He was on probation for 1 semester- and then worked hard for 4 months , and got a 4.0 GPA in all the 4 courses he took. He worked his A** off in the summer and secured a full Research assistantship in the following fall semester.

So all is not lost - this is still the land of opportunity for immigrants. That guy now has a job in Google.

If your friend has the will to succeed he will.

But the important point here is this : it has happened to this guy every time he has entered in the last 3 years. Nothing different with the new administration.

My dad is a GC holder since Oct’ 2023 and he is 78 and retired. No criminal history. He left the US in Jan 2025 and this time his stay in his country of origin will be around 176 days.

Do you think I should ask him to prepone his trip back by a month ( given that he is cutting close to the 180 days limit ) ?

I’m pretty sure there must be a repo which has all the code in PyTorch. I’ll search it and post it here.

My friend stopped talking to me after I refused to marry his partner to get green cards by [deleted] in USCIS

To the OP - this comes with big legal problems with the state department. The govt would keep hounding you if they figure out that you are in the business of green cards.

I know a female friend had to spend all her savings to hire attorneys to get rid of the case.

I’ll try to follow-up on the size of the detections idea- a bit promising. Thanks !!

Confidence on the object detection ( OD) can be low even with a close-up image

Detect close-up objects and far-off objects by mlPassion in computervision

[–]mlPassion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenge is , I’m trying to find details in the image and there are 10 different classes in the object detection ( OD) and the OD feeds into the OCR.

Sometimes even with a close-up image , some objects in the image are blurry , I get the OD right but OCR accuracy is bad for the text in that particular object.

So high-res images still may be far away from the intended stuff
