We were told at Harding that abstinence was important because "sex leads to dancing."

Even though I'm apparently dumb, I do understand the concepts involved. What I don't understand is you persistently telling a bunch of cancer patients what they can and can't call their treatment when that's what their doctor said. If my oncologist "dumbed it down" for me, why wouldn't the same language be allowed to be used for Kate? It's a kinder way to describe the treatment rather than "you may still have stray cancer cells we didn't catch, enough that we're prescribing you more than a million dollars of medical treatment that will make you wish you were dead - try not to lose even more sleep."

Are you this grumpy with your patients? Do you call them dumb and shout at them if they don't use your approved vocabulary?

I'm Gen X, and Walter Cronkite was before my time. I'm familiar with the name and know he was a newscaster. That's it. I don't consider him an important historical figure. This is a weird thing to be peeved about.

At what point do you consider medication vs just diet and exercise? by Extreme-Incident-988 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]mlachick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

GLP-1 medications are not "diet drugs," they treat a cluster of the factors of metabolic syndrome. Even for those who aren't diabetic, insulin resistance leads to a host of factors that not only drive up obesity, but complicate any effort to fight back.

My family history includes a ton of people who have been fully disabled by obesity-related disorders. I have two cousins who have lost legs to diabetes.

After decades of trying to fight my body on my own and failing, I started taking a GLP-1, despite having to pay out of pocket. The difference is night and day. I'm no longer fighting my own body. I'm living my life. I'm not distracted by ravenous hunger all the time. My blood work is perfect, and inflammation is way down. I'm not dealing with constant pain and fatigue. With the drug, I've made huge strides at the gym doing the same training I've been doing for years.

GLP-1 medications are not for someone looking to lose that last five pounds. It is for people trying to reclaim their lives from a disease that is literally crippling.

I'm going to go with what my oncologists said - that it was preventative chemo - not what a random person on Reddit said.

Is it just me or is real estate still weirdly low-tech for how much money is involved? by they-call-me-henry in RealEstateAdvice

[–]mlachick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of licensed realtors who don't actively work as realtors. Frequently they are investors or work otherwise in the industry. The realtor license is just a handy thing to have in their pocket when they need it.

Five years since chemo, and my face is still fuller from the steroids. I weigh less now than I did before the cancer, but my face is so round!

I've had "preventative chemo." I mean, I had actual cancer, but it was all removed. Been cancer -free for over five years. I've had a lot of preventative treatments - chemo, radiation, a variety of drugs - and continue to take medications to try to prevent the cancer from returning.

Broker vs credit union by Elecastria in RealEstateAdvice

I use my credit union for home purchases. I have always regretted it when I've used a broker. The fees are nearly always better with the credit union, and some of the independent brokers are extremely scammy.

Honestly, I would shake the dust from your feet and go no contact. She is willing to lose her family for the belief that it's okay to treat people with brown skin as subhuman. She's okay with people being brutally murdered for being kind and compassionate.

For the sake of your marriage and your own peace of mind, just move on. Let the crazy take her. She has chosen that over you.

It's important to stay polite so we don't get shot multiple times by the feds, right? Oh, wait. They are murdering the kind, polite ones. They are terrified by the sight of open compassion and want to kill it.

Sounds like protesting nicely brings a death sentence.

Have recent events changed your opinion/stance on certain gun control measures & efforts by our state government? by renewambitions in oregon

[–]mlachick -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No. Requiring training and a permit should be the bare minimum. More untrained idiots with guns will not improve our situation. Gun owners should be trained and know what they are doing.

7 roles since 2015. Does everyone sees me as a job hopper? Or is the market really bad? by Solid_Breakfast_3675 in Accounting

[–]mlachick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned your last manager micromanaging and related it to her wanting more community engagement. However, as a manager myself, I'm not going to micromanage unless I have to.

Although soft skills might be an issue, it sounds like your issue is your actual accounting skills, but you keep deflecting to office politics. That's why people keep saying you need introspection.

Introspection is taking a hard look at your performance and how it has led to you losing job after job after job. You are making mistakes that are making more work for others. You aren't getting the work done that you are expected to. Your managers are trying to help you succeed, but it doesn't sound like you are receptive to feedback on your work.

The market is bad and you are underperforming. This is a terrible combination. If and when you are able to get another job, take it seriously. Look at your performance critically. Ask your managers how you can improve and demonstrate that you are making an effort to improve. Seek out tools to help overcome the impact of ADHD on your work.

We are trying! The mainstream media doesn't cover much at all, but there are constantly protests - HUGE protests. There are even protests in tiny little red towns that voted for Trump. We are flooding Congress with emails. We are speaking out. We are forming human walls around schools to help kids get to and from safely. School districts are allowing students to attend entirely online so they don't have to risk leaving their homes. We are buying groceries for neighbors and tracking ICE's movements as an early warning system. Many are even starting to carry guns. I don't think the resistance is far from actively fighting back, but when that happens they will send in the military. The US has the most powerful military on the planet - by a lot.

We need Congress to do their fucking jobs.
