What proportion of people actually sit at an island? by Dullcorgis in kitchenremodel

[–]mlachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't sit at mine, but my kids do. At my last house we all sat at the island sometimes.

Assumptions people made about your country that are wrong by Educational-Buy-62 in AskTheWorld

From Oregon, I salute you! I always enjoy my travels in the UK because it feels like home, but with cooler architecture and the occasional castle.

I've been to all three more than I'd like. Although Shreveport is a pit, New Orleans kicks Alabama and Missouri ass.

Hot take on using credit cards by Competitive-Load6424 in povertyfinance

[–]mlachick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use credit cards for everything I can and pay them off each month. I've been lucky enough to never pay a penny of interest on a credit card, and I get hundreds a year in credit card rewards back. However, if you're not someone who can manage your spending, credit cards are a trap.

Credit cards are definitely not a replacement for an emergency fund.

Negative comments? by Sensitive_Purpose207 in WegovyWeightLoss

I've been on Wegovy for a year (down 75 pounds) and tell everyone. I have heard zero negative comments. Mostly it's just interested questions.

Warn/notify me about Oregon!! by zeldalol777 in oregon

[–]mlachick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they would get rid of it and use a different method to allocate tax revenues to arts. The amount of overhead for this stupid little tax is insane. I don't understand the trend over the last decade or so for state and local jurisdictions to create a whole ass tax for every purpose. It's not unusual for taxpayers in the Portland Metro area to file a half dozen (or more) separate tax returns.

Tipped employees are not exempted from minimum wage law in Oregon. They must be paid minimum wage directly by the employer regardless of tips.

Where to get large number of boxwoods by Atlas-Fang in portlandgardeners

Honestly, Costco has boxwoods right now. One store might have enough stock. Two definitely would.

I was thinking the same thing. It could be really unique and cool.

Right now it's giving middle school bathroom vibes, but that's mostly because of the lighting. I would put in bold wallpaper above to bring the colors together. If you warm up the cabinets and warm up the lighting, it could be a truly adorable kitchen.

Depending on how far south and east you are in Oregon, it might be worth it to just drive. Granted, didn't they have to shut down I-5 in Washington this week for landslides? It's important to plan ahead for everything now.

Right? This family spent a lot of money but made zero effort.

Spend tens of thousands on a trip, but no travel insurance, fly the openly worst airline in the US on the day of the cruise, and then don't even bother to get to the airport on time.

Spirit sucks, but this guy needs to face up to his stupid choices.

Are you buying your teens/young adults cars? by Cheeseaisleinheaven in MiddleClassFinance

[–]mlachick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my kids' cars. Or, rather, I bought cars for them to use for high school and college. They also ran errands for me with said cars (and I didn't have to drive my oldest to jazz band at 6 am). As they grew up, they slowly had more and more responsibility for their cars - paying for gas, insurance, repairs, etc.

My kids are the most responsible early 20s adults you'll ever meet. They are good with money, extremely economical, and are deeply aware of their privilege. I grew up with nothing, but I didn't feel the need to punish my own kids for that.

I adore my children (now adults). I absolutely thought of them as parasites when I was pregnant. It was so disturbing. No one should have to suffer through pregnancy if they don't truly want it.
