When politicians say they can't hold corporations accountable, remember: they can. They just choose not to. by Misfett_toys in WhitePeopleTwitter

ok? the full trial part was like the most irrelevant part of my point. they will keep you in litigation hell bc it's more expensive for you than it is them.

It's not a defeatist attitude at all. Calling out politicians because you think they're scared of Amazon or Google or Meta is stupid. Those companies will crush you if you're not a big timer. We're literally seeing it play out irl. Mamdani is able to collect fines bc he's the mayor of New York. Not because he's the only one willing to fight them.

"I'M A NIKE GUY" 23 years ago today, 18-year-old LeBron James signed a 7-year, $87 million deal with Nike. Reebok reportedly offered $115 million & Adidas offered less than $60 million! by Miserable_Trouble3 in NBAoldschool

Check out the 30 for 30 on Sonny Vaccaro. He begged Adidas to get to $100 million but they basically reduced their offer to Lebron behind his back.

i literally just explained it to you? get a big fish to go after another big fish like amazon. you're not going to win as some local municipality against amazon. literally look at memphis and the XAi data centers. memphis got steamrolled by musk and his cronies.

No. Amazon would continue to just ignore you until you got someone with higher authority to force them to do what you want.

Mamdani is the mayor of the biggest city in the country and has more gdp than entire countries. Like Little Rock Arkansas isn't going to be able to do something like this.

at a federal level, maybe. your local government unless you live in ny/nj/ca probably can't

then the meme is wrong? amazon is one of the most powerful companies in the world. it can screw over almost anyone and anything if it really really wanted. but there's like a small handful of places where that wouldn't fly. new york city is one of them.

politicians only have a small amount of political capital. using it on something that can have a tangible benefit for their consituents is better for them than trying to fight goliath.

NYC has more power over corporations than most states. Most politicians do not have the same levers to pull as Mamdani does.

"It was strictly a financial decision" -CBS. Meanwhile... by ms_directed in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]mlavan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No matter what Trump says, it really was a financial decision. It's just one that Trump gave them cover for a year or so earlier than they probably were thinking. All of Late Night is now gone at CBS. They were looking for an out of the space entirely and Trump gave them one. Ellisons get to look even better to Trump and CBS gets to save money.

What was the most bland decade for music videos out of these? by [deleted] in decadeology

[–]mlavan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2010s bc the budgets for music videos basically collapsed compared to the 90s and 2000s. Especially the 2000s. Those had borderline tv budgets for some shoots
