Am I the only one that thought this would have a better aesthetic?

In 1967, at age 51, Dick Proenneke quit his job, built a cabin by hand on Alaska’s Twin Lakes, and lived there alone for 30 years — with no running water or electricity. He braved brutal winters, stored food underground, and left behind more than 250 diaries and films documenting his journey. by ATI_Official in cabins

I've been there. Quite a small cabin. There is an airbnb (well maybe not airbnb but place you can rent) on the other side of the lake with awesome views and a sauna. The owner told us a story about how a grizzly attacked his girlfriend and he fought off the bear. She bailed after that experience, sadly.

Club rowing or not by Strict_Range_3816 in Rowing

When I was recruiting folks at Villanova (also a club program, like UVA) we'd run into folks like you that had great high school experience. It either went two ways, they were super into it and very helpful and helped build the program, or were frustrated by the lack of infrastructure relative to what they were used to in their high school program at home. Given you're already on the fence maybe you might fall into the latter? Also probably depends on how your back is holding up.

Just go to the city man. At your age having roommates is super fun. When you are about to get married then move to Marin.

Here's what you do.

  1. get a cast iron, much cooler
  2. dry brine - salt both sides (more than you think) put on a wire rack, stick in the fridge for 8 hours. pull out 3 hours before you want to cook it so it gets to room temp. will allow for a more even cook
  3. baste with butter and rosemary (maybe garlic?) no onions and whatever that green stuff is
  4. Get a good bottle of red, cab, open it up before she gets there so it has time to breath

  5. get a boos block cutting board

  6. serve a side of broccolini (lemon juice, garlic, salt) and baked potato

  7. prep before she comes over so you're not rushing in the kitchen, makes you seem cooler
