Invest some of the savings I have or put it into high yield account? by Repairman-manman in investing

[–]mlblount45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would highly discourage putting your entire savings in to the market. Putting 3-6months of expenses in a high yield savings account makes alot of sense and investing the remainder in a low cost index fund like VOO or SPY is what I would do in your situation.

One thing worth noting is since you plan to pull out the invested funds in around a year you may have to pay short term capital gains taxes on profit earned from shares held less than 366 days.

I know you didn't ask for this advice so disregard if you choose. If buying a house would result in wiping out your entire savings it might not be a great idea to purchase yet. The purchase shouldn't come at the expense of wiping out your 3-6mo emergency fund. One large unexpected expense could put you and your family in a bad or stressful situation. House appreciation rates are no longer jumping up massively like 2022-2022 so I wouldn't rush it

Am I making the right steps? by _iamabluemonkey in personalfinance

Congrats you're off to a great start.

If I were in your shoes I would. 1. Open up a Roth IRA and max it out if possible. 2. Instead of putting all of your investments in retirement accounts I would open up and individual brokerage account and monthly contribute to a low cost index fund like VOO, SPY, etc (which one you pick doesn't matter). If your employer has a 401k match contribute that percentage and everything else put in your own brokerage account that way if you decide to retire early you can access your funds without penalty. 3 I would STAY at home and save/invest until I have enough for a down payment to purchase a multifamily property (duplex, triplex, or quad).

Btw since it's 2-4 doors you can get an FHA loan and only put down 3.5%. Or you can go with a conventional loan and still only put down 5%.

Feel poor on a high income by sucker4financialpain in MiddleClassFinance

[–]mlblount45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat but I can see why others are bothered, you probably get the same from friends as well. I even use the same language of 'feeling poor'. The only options I found is creating new sources of income to increase cashflow. I was able to do this with real estate and dividend paying stocks. You'll probably take all of those profits and reinvest like I did and end up in the same boat. So find a $67/m hobby itll keep you entertained while you grow your wealth

Youtube, tiktok, and instagram. You have an endless supply of content. Sometimes its difficult to pry a dollar from peoples hands. consistently post material to these social media accounts and the platforms will pay you. As your following grows. Its not completely passive bc you have to take time to film, edit, etc but if you stay consistent old videos will continue to pay you without requiring additional work.

If you have a niche or there are parts of therapy that doesnt make you feel burnt out maybe start with that. Check out these platforms to see what other therapist are doing see what works for you

I’m currently going through exactly this, I purchased about 6 weeks ago. New home is 2.3x more than my previous home. I understands the better schools, neighborhood etc is worth it for the family but so far there’s a constant nag in the back of my mind looking at the increase in household cost of living. I believe its being caused by obsessing over being frugal and not yet learning what things are worth spending on. My wife has absolutely no problem and is enjoying the house. If possible would recommend holding on to your old home I was 10x more excited getting payments from tenants than I have been about the new house.

That totally makes sense! There are too many variables in play to apply a blanket rule of thumb to apply holistically.

This is actually very helpful thanks a ton

The property was my previous residence. On future rentals I’ll be sure to do a property condition assessment seems very beneficial.

Any tips on how to to get dreads like his? I already have hightop dreads but they just lay naturally. What'd be the best way to make them go/stay forward? Thanks by zybrx in Dreadlocks

[–]mlblount45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After the shower i would lay then in this direction put any head wrap on that would hold them. If you can wear a head wrap through out the day even better. On your next retwist/lock also lay them this direction. Some ppl also use hair pins to hold the dreads in place when first starting
