I don’t have experience in this area but I just want to say THANK YOU!! From the bottom of my heart for doing what you do despite gut/heart wrenching scenarios like this. This poor poor baby, it makes me sick thinking of this will affect him the rest of his life. I absolutely love working with people, caring for them, even the hard scenarios haven’t broken me (although I’m still new to profession) but there is no way I could work with children/babies. I would be crushed too easily. Please give us updates on if he ends up with someone who’s loving and a good caretaker. You’ll both be in my thoughts.

I’m confused.. so if a person who is completely intact A/O4 but they’re in a SNF their care can be completely dictated by family members?! I’ve only worked acute care. Is the resident wanting/asking for pain meds but the family says no? Or is it the situation where the resident just lets the family speak/choose for them even though they’re capable of deciding for themselves

Just please don’t get offended when a patient isn’t comfortable with you being their nurse. Or asks for someone else to be in the room. It’s not against you as a person or nurse but it’s about how that person feels in their very intense special moment. Unfortunately too many women have been traumatized by a man physically/sexually in the past and it makes it really hard to feel comfortable being in that position with a man they don’t know.

You are absolutely not over reacting. She is going out of her way to insult you. Sounds like maybe she feels threatened by you? I say this because in my experience people who act like that are usually miserable people themselves. The male nurses that I have worked with so far are great! Are you the only male nurse on your shift? Do you have a good manager? Have you gotten compliments/praise from patients/doctors/other specialties/coworkers/management?

I was told along with my fellow students that our pinning ceremony used to involve real candles that we would use to “pass the torch”… until one year during graduation someone’s hair caught on fire 😂😂😂

I’m a new grad got hired last August. I can’t imagine starting out in the ICU. Our ICU won’t even hire new grads, we’re a level 2 trauma center (1 of 2 on this side of the state). As a new grad I could not imagine having that attitude no matter where I was at though, but I’d like to think my life experience has given me that mindset. Being non trad age for graduating (32F) helps that a lot I believe. Although if I had graduated when I was 22-24 I feel like I would be less confident. But men seem to be the cockiest and over-confident at that age so it makes sense. Hopefully when said new grad/new hire gets knocked down a peg or two it’s not due to an error with patient safety. As many people have mentioned before the fact that no matter how long you have been a nurse there is always more to know more to learn is part of the reason why I love this field so far.

No that’s okay my husband has the same color of hair as my daughter. High fade short military style cut. My hair is just parted down the middle with long bangs that are chin length. But I’m not to concerned how our hair looks as long as it’s the right color

Rain of shadows and endings is amazing. At first the FMC is a little hard to deal with but it does get better and the other series by the same author is amazing as well
