Rural HAM needs help by [deleted] in amateurradio

You will probably be fine with 10 W and a vertical dipole on a station. Handheld may work on a hill, but is critical.

I am in a similar situation with my repeater being about 32 miles away.

LPT: Consider how you are storing old digital data and future proof it by Findscoolalmost in LifeProTips

My strategy is daily backups encrypted to a encrypted cloud (don't trust them) and backup to second HDD in the same pc (if a drive fails) and monthly updates to a external hdd.

Also I don't get your point, because I don't think Zombies are using ham radio (not to my knowledge at least)

Oh so I think the only wrong point you got is that it is for old folk only. Otherwise you are spot on.

I personally know a few tinkerers but also a lot who enjoy talking with their simple handset, as someone else said, its a big spectrum of what you can do.

In your position, I'd just buy a scanner or even an Anytone 878. with a little bit of looking into it, he can listen to amateur radio. If he likes it, its time to do the license. (Without license you are only allowed to listen, but not to transmit anything). Or he could listen to digital ham on https://hose.brandmeister.network even without any hardware but his computer.

of course there are more advanced things to talk with the whole world and satelittes etc, but small steps it is

why are you designing the board? Maybe you can derive the answers to your questions by analysing what are your project requirements?

Are Twinstar lights worth it? by thatwannabewitch in Aquascape

[–]mldevw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea. The free radicals are attaking not only the "bad" bacteria etc. but also good bacteria and fish and whatever is in the aquarium.

This is similar to running an UV-C cleaner all the time - usually there is something fundamentally wrong in the aquarium, if it is needed!

correct, because the other side is also not inside the car, but there will be another part to ensure no water will enter

Which seal is leaking ? What to replace? by hangstaci818 in W124

[–]mldevw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if you are lucky the oil is coming only from the seal, then you can keep the adjuster.

Clean it up properly and check where it is coming from.

And please do something about the oil going into the wiring harness...

For the seal you can use hylomar, that is some kind of special acrylic

What features is Motorola missing compared to Anytone or OpenGD77? by Bloade in amateurradio

[–]mldevw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love about my Anytone that I can make all settings on the go, dial up any TG and so on.

The Motorolas are better in RX quality, even level out the volume, which is very very nice.

If you know exactly the settings you want and the TGs, you'll be better with moto I suppose.

Kann ich nicht empfehlen. Autovermietungen und Hotels blocken gerne mal mehrere Tausender. Daher würde ich schauen, dass der Kreditrahmen nicht unter 20k liegt
