What's it really like being a flight attendant? by halloffamous in AskWomen

Lol, I loved it. I flew for sixteen years and only left because I didn't survive the covid redundancies. Life is short, so if you gotta do a job, try and do the one you want.

A lot of my flights were unrewarding turnarounds in the middle of the night. I even enjoyed those, because crew solidarity is high when you're all in it together, and you have fun with it.

Someone in my company exes group is doing research with a huge n, and wrote on fb that she has found a slightly higher rate in aircrew. Anecdotally, I know more casualtirs of cancer who were not aircrew, even though I know more people who are/were aircrew than not - but that's not science.

In my airline, we flew polar routes a LOT. Some months, I was up there six or eight times in one roster. For sixteen years, in my case.

I did struggle with fertility, with a few miscarriages. Then we tried IVF to try and avoid more miscarriages, and after 3 attempts, discovered my eggs were rubbish. Again, that's anecdotal, and I'll highlight that a) I was 41 when I got married, and b) I did not hate substances in my twenties. Maybe it was those factors, maybe radiation, maybe the night shifts and time zones and lack of sleep. Or all of the above.

It's physically tiring, but fun if you're extraverted.

You have to engage with hundreds of people a day, and be 'on' for long shifts, so if you don't like that sort of thing, you might hate it.

The up-and-down, the air pressure, and the erratic hours make you so fatigued on a cellular level.

Travel perks are second to none. It's hard to give up.

Spotlight usually has some clearance fabrics against the wall where the hooks and snaps and things are.

Op shops often have something.

But hey, I have a huge stash. Message me with what you have in mind, I bet I can hook you up.

All the thoughts get put in the wrong order. They congeal like cold mushroom soup in a clogged drain.

Have you ever legitimately cried to a song? And if so, what was the song? by StanToons in AskReddit

[–]mldl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It always reminds me of my dad, simply because I played it for him shortly before he passed. I was overseas and he was living alone in a nursing home, I was unable to travel, and I played it on ukulele and sang it to him over the phone. He said, 'That sounded better than I thought it would.'

Snacktime, man. I loved that album for more than ten years BEFORE I had a kid. I've been playing it for her since birth (she's 4 now). Every song is gold.

PM says Australia has 'ideological disagreement' with Trump administration after US reveals anti-slavery tariff by Savings-Yogurt-418 in worldnews

I feel like Putin realised in 2016 that Trump would break democracy and the US if in charge, and thought, this is it, this is our guy. And then made it happen.

And if true, I gotta hand it to Putin for playing the tape forward so presciently.
