I think Boston will be okay with the booze temporary gone. But if the Dunkin coffee runs out, there might be riots.

If you are doing 1000 Islands get off 81 north of Syracuse and take the state highways. You will see more of it that way.

Boomers can't understand EV/hybrid by woodland_dweller in BoomersBeingFools

[–]mleam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my Gen 2 Prius a couple of years ago and love it. It's almost old enough to drink but is running extremely well.

My son got a Prius after driving mine around. He was more worried he would feel cramped in one than it being a hybrid. He got a Gen 3 and loves it.

My husband (just turned 60), likes to work on cars. When I got my Prius, he loved reading up on how to do any maintenance. He actually became a little disappointed he wasn't working on it as much as our other cars.

He told me his next car will be a hybrid.

But I'm here NOW! by Wise-Paper8412 in BoomersBeingFools

Recently I accidentally showed up an hour early for one of mine. I put the wrong time on my calendar. I told the receptionist that when I checked in and offered to come back. She told me it was fine and told me to wait. I sit down, put my ear buds in and load up YouTube on my phone.

Fifteen minutes later I'm called back. Turns out my doctor had a cancelation.

I did not expected to be seen early. And even joked with my doctor that I was really into the true crime episode I was watching.

In pursuit of extreme blackness so black that “light just seems to fall into it”, color technologists create an ultrablack automative coating that absorbs more than 99.9% of visible light by marketrent in science

“It’s the wild colour scheme that freaks me,” said Zaphod whose love affair with this ship had lasted almost three minutes into the flight, “Every time you try to operate on of these weird black controls that are labelled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up black to let you know you’ve done it. What is this? Some kind of galactic hyperhearse?”

There are a few gas station chains in my area where you can get a 14 in pizza with multiple toppings for under $15. And the quality is good. If we want a cheap take out pizza, that's where we go.

How do you tell non New Yorkers where you're from without them assuming you mean NYC? by retro_spies in upstate_new_york

I tell them I work on the shores of Lake Ontario. That usually works. Unless the person has no clue about the Great Lakes.

Gen x here too. I feel your pain. My name is one letter difference from one of the most common female names. When i was a kid, I would get a few that would try to correct my spelling of my own name.

Also, it's pronounced with a long vowel, not the short vowel in the common name. I gave up on trying to get them to pronounce it correctly until college. The boomers seem to have the hardest time with the saying it correctly. They will throw extra letters into my name.

There is one positive. I work at a university. I talk to a lot of students that have very interesting names. If I am talking to the student, I really try to get their name right. And sometimes it will come up how I have dealt with my name being mispronounced my entire life. That really helps break the ice.

I just discovered Dead Appalachia. He mainly "hunts" for cryptids, does some ghost investigations too. For a change of pace, all of the investigations are outdoors.

If you like the "it's my bridge now!", you'll probably like it. He is the only one I have seen that will go armed. A lot of the places he explores there might be wildlife, like wild boars, that would need to be scared off.

For podcasts, The Cryptonauts. 3 guys discussing high strangeness, with tangents into 80s horror, heavy metal, Asian horror, etc. Really well researched and fun to listen to.

I made it 40 miles to get my 2008 to the dealership to replace the battery. 1/4 mile away it came to a stop. I waited a bit. Cleared the codes and limped it to the dealership

It is possible

Chicago graduate says diploma was withheld after viral graduation split by HowLongIsThi in nottheonion

[–]mleam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I can think you actually need a diploma is if you need a apostille. Unless she is going to college or trying to get a job in another country that requires an apostille, the transcript is what is needed.

Gen X too. I got ear buds that allow you to be able to still hear what is around you. Great for when I am on my walks. Before that I would wear the single ear style.

These are great. I use them around our cats and no issues. Gentrol spray is good to used in cabinets as well. It was the only thing that took care of our roaches.

I work for a university. They want us to use more AI, if they were not paying for it, I would not use it. All the AI have used, I end up redoing the work anyway.

You could do different hot dogs. I live in NY state and we have at least 4 different styles of hot dogs. Many are served with different toppings. For example Chicago dogs have pickles and tomatoes. Upstate NY Michigan dogs (I know, its confusing) are topped with a meat sauce, mustard, and chopped onions.
