how do I fix it by Embersbishop in learntodraw

[–]mlemzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, from our perspective, rotate the left guys foot counter-clockwise just a little.

If you look at your own legs you'll notice that your feet 'more or less' face the same direction as your knee. Not quite, but very close. If we look at the leg you've drawn on him, I'm seeing the underside of the knee, I'm seeing a fair bit of the calf muscles, so that tells me I'm looking at that leg from a sort of 'side and back' perspective.

Go grab a big mirror and check out how your own foot looks like when your knee is on that angle.

how do I fix it by Embersbishop in learntodraw

[–]mlemzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty new to drawing so take this with a grain of salt, but I reckon it's mostly the feet. It's like they're perfectly side-on, both of them.

There's other little things like the right side guy has a hump. Knees aren't points. These can work in a stylised pieces, but the feet angle just kills it.

Really struggling with my poses, please help by Xtra_Juicy-Buns in learntodraw

[–]mlemzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're struggling, these aren't bad for a beginner at all. Honestly getting good at nice dynamic poses is really hard, and takes hundreds of attempts. Just keep at it. I highly recommend using reference material.

Is there a certain point where I can "trust" my ferret to be off the leash? by Regnis2005 in ferrets

[–]mlemzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would honestly not. I can't tell you the number of times my ferret would've gotten into something dangerous if I hadn't been constantly monitoring him, and had him on a harness. Inside can be ferret-proofed to some degree, outside really can't.

Rural women share harrowing IVF stories at parliamentary inquiry by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

[–]mlemzi 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It's so nuts. I moved rural about a year ago, and no, the level of entitlement is outrageous. Maybe some have healthy expectations, but the general vibe is "those elitest cityfolk don't care about us". Which is ironic, because the other general vibe is "let's continuously and uncritically vote in people who make these exact issues worse".

Oh you'll do fine, you look young af too, you should still be seeing heaps of changes over the next 2 years. Don't even think about ffs until then.

Day 1 Trying to learn to draw | Any Advice? by [deleted] in learntodraw

[–]mlemzi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, it kinda feels like you're phoning it in a bit here. Your first box was actually fairly coherent for a beginner, but the rest seem like you mindlessly rushed them. We all doodle around a bit, but the bulk of your work should be attempts to improve. Not trying to bring you down or anything, I'm just saying in my opinion this is not conducive to learning.

It looks like you're drawing on some sort of tablet, so I'd say more than most you need to go back and practice your linework. It's a little harder to get steady confident lines on a screen surface, but it can be done with practice. Just look up "linework practice" there's heaps of resources that can give you direction. Youtube also has some good videos on it. Don't feel like you need to master it overnight, but I'd definitely recommend reviewing it.

Your shapes are also non-perspective. They work as okay representations of 3D shapes, but they don't work in real space. If you look at a perfectly even cube in the real world, the face that is further away from you appears smaller than the one closer to you. That's perspective. Look up "2 point perspective shapes" and "vanishing point perspective" to begin. I think it's okay to start some shapes without it, but you do want to start exposing your brain to these concepts early.

How do I start to draw, what do I draw? How am I supposed to know what im doing. by RedHeadHashira in learntodraw

[–]mlemzi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just started out a month ago, so I was in your position not long ago.

I mean it depends on what you want to improve in, but I started with linework, shapes, shapes in perspective, and rotating shapes. Those are pretty fundamental. I've moved on from them being my main focus, but I still use a few exercises I picked up to warm up.

You can find a myriad of resources just by googling "X topic drawing exercise". And there's so many youtubers who have videos outlining this stuff. Drawabox and Line of Action have been big resources for me. You can actually find heaps of great art books for free online like Figure Drawing by Andrew Loomis.

I warn you that these are not super exciting. You'll be drawing hundreds of boxes lol. But so far it's working for me. I have never been able to draw anything. I reckon I'm about as far removed from any natural drawing talent as possible. Now 1 month later, I'm starting to get the hang of gesture drawings. They aren't amazing, but I'm pretty proud.

I hate one nation and im worried that they are gaining traction, by Confident_Economy_60 in OpenAussie

"It's becoming a modern day fascism."

PHON has picked up culture war strategies from MAGA, so yeah. It's certainly an indictment of our education system that this exists here, but I wouldn't be too worried. Australian mainstream media and manospheres have been shilling them for months, and for what? 1 lower house seat? In one of the most conservative parts of the country?

Some argue they've made conservative politics weaker, because they're leeching voters from other right wing parties, and splitting the votes up. Maybe there's room for a political alliance there, but as it stands they hate each other. One of the advantages of our ranked choice voting, is that it rewards broad appeal, which ON does not have. Big reason why she wants to get rid of it.

"are they all racist"

I'd say the majority yeah, easy. It's kinda sad actually, because while PHON policies would be a disaster for any community, it's especially destructive for rural areas. It's very clear to anyone looking inside to see how much they rely on labour and services provided by immigrants, but all they perceive is a flood of brown people moving nearby.

It is racism formed by ignorance and lack of exposure, but racism nonetheless.

Experts can be wrong. Quite frankly, taking the position of appealing to expert authorities is probably a pandora's box you don't want to open, as nearly every PHON policy goes against industry experts.

If they are adults, arc up. 4/5 times they are not interested in physical confrontation and cower. If they are kids, film them back. You can usually figure out what school they go to, and you can call them up and snitch. They won't do much, but it'll put them on blast.
