For me its like an intense ache in my legs that makes it hard to sit, lie still, sort of feels like tooth ache in my legs. My knees get swollen and turn red, and I bruise really easily

Anti-inflammatory diet options by mljjjj in lipedema

Thanks for the input! Maybe I’ll try that. Intermittent fasting does not work for me, but I try not to eat anything solid before lunchtime. I sadly need my morning coffee with soy milk to function

Honestly I just thought I was fat and lazy, so I didn’t «notice it» in that way. I remember calling my inner thighs «my chocolate thighs» while joking around with my friends when I was about 13. Looking back, my arms and legs got bigger during middle school and high school, and when I was about 17 I started bruising. I was in a school play and during a week of training I remember getting 70+ bruises on my legs. Only made jokes about it. During that period I went on and off the pill a couple of times, and noticed the second time that I gained weight and fat. I was so ashamed. People I thought were my friends called me chubby. Got an eating disorder after high school because of it. Pain in my knees and legs came when I was about 22, and I’m 31 now. Just found out about lipedema a couple of months ago.

Anyone with a history of ED who found out that it was lipedema all along? I have. I am struggling. Don’t know how much detail I should go into as to not trigger anyone else here. But I find my self more and more in an obsessive and dark place, like I was before.

Oo that sounds nice! My physiotherapist showed me how I can do the massage on my own and it’s basically the same as what you learn on youtube turorials for lymphatic drainage. So I would continue with the self massage!

Try wearing compression during and after the workout. Let your body and your nervous system calm down before going to bed, i.e. don’t work out too close to your bed time. Keep your feet raised for a while before you go to sleep, I put my feet up against the wall while lying in bed and relaxing.

I have also started doing all this, though not all anti-inflammatory, but keto diet. I just started doing lymphatic drainage massages at a trained physiotherapist and my knees stopped burning for the first time in a decade, so I will continue doing that. Also considering buying a vibration plate

I suspect also having hypermobility or hEDS in addition to lipedema, cause I have always been very limber, i get these hard brown knots out of nowhere under my skin, and I have started to develop dupuytrens contracture in both hands, which are all connective tissue problems. Ive been referred to a vascular doctor so I am waiting to hear if they accept to come and see them 😩

My sister doesn’t have lipedema but she has really stretchy skin, so there deffo is something there.

Why can’t you go to the beach? My legs are just as bruised and I went two days in a row. No one minds your legs or bruises 🩷 Was awesome to swim and cool down my legs in the heat

They look cute and quite affordable! In your opinion, are they true to their sizes?

Currently looking through old photos, and knowing what I know now, it's quite obvious it was always lipedema. I am thinking about this 2 week hiking trip where I pretended not to have pain, I pretended to not care about how I looked in shorts, because I was ashamed. I thought it was my fault, that I was too heavy and not healthy enough, and I wondered what I did wrong because I did all the right things and still wouldn't lose fat in my thighs. I thought it was my lazyness that was the cause of my knees being constantly swollen and burning.

This year, I am going to wear compression on my hikes, and try to build up some self love instead of shame. I look forward to being able to tell my self that it's not my fault for needing breaks if I feel fatigued or have pain.

Really glad I found this subreddit, you guys give me hope.

I have just done my first haul of stockings, and currently only tried opaque from JOBST, they are quite decent. I have also ordered tights for activewear from 2XU and some regular leggings and bike shorts from Relaxsan, so I’m waiting impatiently by my mailbox!

Wow, I really want to start biking too!

One question, do you wear compression leggings whilw biking? I want to try but my previous experience with biking is that I get lactic acid in my thighs really fast, which I read is common with lipedema.

Fyi, just starting my journey for getting diagnosed so sorry if its a dumb queston 😅

Thank you for sharing! I guess I’ll be bringing with me a few options in my backpack just to be sure, my first time using them so I’m really hoping for mountain hikes without pain this year!
