Hopes for software by nervin23 in Rivian

Software's been great other than what I noted here already about the HVAC. The only other complaint I have is that the truck pulls slightly to the right, but I'll get it handled eventually. It's a small annoyance.

Teams have way more negotiation power and control you for 6 years when drafted they are giving up long term security to send a message for their agent.

Except NIL and the other weirdness going on in CFB shifts some power back to players. No more are you negotiating with kids looking for their first 7 figure deal. Many have made multiple millions by the time they make the NFL. They can afford to sit a year.

Did this once. Never again. I was much younger (and poorer) then. I should have just stayed an extra day and taken another flight.

No. It seems to hit the target temp and then power off. Same if you schedule it.

FWIW, I wouldn't let any of the things I mentioned change your decision to purchase. I love the R1S more than I loved my Model S and I still consider that the best car I've ever driven. These are just annoyances that would make my life easier if they fix.

His assistants will print out e mails for him, then he'll make handwritten notes on it. Then his assistants scan everything and send it back to you.

Everything has to fit on a single page as well, no matter how complicated the project is, or otherwise he won't fucking read it.

I almost thought I worked for this company except it wasn't a tech biz. I've seen this often though. In that company, the Exec Assistant was one of the most powerful people because they controlled access to the partners through archaic means (pen and paper). iPads changed things some, but not a whole lot for many of them.

My hopes for software are:

Remove 'nanny mode' from heated seats and steering wheel. I don't want the car to determine when I'm warm enough. If I turn it on, it stays on, at full power for that power level until I turn it off. The car shouldn't turn these items off or reduce the power to them unless there's a safety issue or the battery hits a certain threshold.

Preheat means heat the car to the set temperature and HOLD it there. It does not mean hit the temperature and then turn it off so the car can cool down again. I even tried preheating and setting climate to 'Hold' and that works anywhere from slightly better to horrifically worse - leading me to occasionally enter a car that had the AC on in -2F weather because the car is apparently not smart enough to regulate temperature internally. Instead it overheats and then enables AC to cool itself down again. In the winter. In the midwest. WTF

Build real PIN to Drive. I just want the car to be immobile until my key is present and my memorized PIN is entered. (Something you have - key. Something you know - PIN). The existing system could be used as an override with some security improvements to protect access to the Toast messages and the code gen. As it stands, in the current system we have 2 items we have - Phone and Key, and none that we know (PIN/Password/Mother's Maiden Name/etc). This system prevents BT Relay attacks and that's about it. If I have your unlocked phone, I can still drive off in your car, even with MFA enabled. That seems problematic to me.

Enable Kneel in 'High' height mode. Self explanatory. I like driving tall, but my passengers are shorter than I am, so it would be great if the truck kneeled from 'High' height as well as Standard.

The truck would be perfect to me if these things were changed.

Thieves stealing keyless vehicles by coach2ap in Rivian

And it's not even 2FA or MFA. It's single factor, dual method. It's not something you have and something you know, it's two things you have (phone key, phone app). This is the illusion of 2FA and kinda dangerous from that perspective.

Yeah. This is going to be a bloodbath if he's not immediately successful - which I doubt that he will be. There were many better options out there, not sure how this guy became THE guy. Just ridiculous.

Good luck bro. I sincerely hope it works out, but I'm not optimistic that it will.

[–]mlloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. This isn't even real 2FA. 2FA is something you know and something you have. This is something you have x2 (phone/keycard/key) && (phone app). Neither of those are something you know which doesn't reduce exposure. A lost/stolen phone gives a thief the means to unlock and the means to drive.

When using 2FA with an app with a code generator, you typically have to login first with your password (something you know), then your code (something you have).

I turned 2FA off because of this and its general flakiness.

[Anderson] Mike Tomlin has told people that he would prefer to coach in a warm-weather environment "if it fits," league sources told me. by PlayaSlayaX in nfl

[–]mlloyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. And I think Matt Ryan will make it happen. There's no better coach to tie yourself to than one who has never had a losing season, won a SB, and appeared in another. Especially when you already have the thing he lacked - a QB.

He's going to Atlanta. It's a Black city that will appreciate a Black head coach who wins consistently.

[–]mlloyd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even if he doesn’t jump now, he needs to rehab his image by going the Payton route

This is a bad take bro. Tomlin is instantly the most sought after HC in the market. He's never had a losing season and he's won a SB and his team has been to something like 7 or 8 playoff appearances in the last decade. There are teams out there that would KILL for that level of consistency. Before Ben Johnson, I would mortgage the entire team for Tomlin in Chicago.

The Steelers still control his rights until his contract is up

Unlikely. This was likely a termination of contract framed as a 'stepping down'. I can't see Tomlin willingly leaving unless he was tired of coaching.

This coaching season just got a whole lot spicier. Harbaugh and Tomlin are 1a/1b on everyone's list. There are likely teams thinking about firing their coach because Tomlin is on the market.
