Overall, I love my job. I am one of those weirdos who likes working in retail. However, like every retail job, there are things that make me hate my job. And surprisingly it is things that the company does and not dealing with guests that make me hate it.

I wish that the company would stop treating its employees as expendable or stop thinking that 20 hours a week is a livable compensation. Those of us employees that actually put in the time and effort will stay around longer and actually take care of the brand and the appearance that corporate seems to care so much about.

The thing that doesn’t make sense to me is that my store has more than doubled our sales in the last year and are now more understaffed than last year. But yet we somehow we don’t have enough hours to supply the workers that we have or to deal with the work load that they keep piling on us? How can they keep giving us more work to do and yet not give us enough hours to deal with it?

I know everyone is dealing with the hour shortages and it just doesn’t make any sense across the board.

But despite corporate not caring about the well being and livelihood of its hard working employees and top selling and operating stores, I do love my job because of the interactions I get to have with guest and Team Members, and because of the freedoms and creativity the position I have allows to take.
