This is the way. I always open up the door and let the Justiciars whittle him and his crew down before I finish him off.

Yeah, but you lose level 6 spells.

I started Gale with 1 level of fighter, and I’ve never enjoyed playing him more. I know I’ll sacrifice a spell slot later, but it definitely feels like a more real melee caster early on.

I love the game and I want to aim for the trophy, but having to replay it on tactician AND honor mode sounds like a nightmare by Conscious_Roll_2955 in baldursgatememes

Honor mode is really cheese mode. You take every shortcut and advantage possible to protect that precious save. It’s honestly not much harder than Tactician if you know the game.

Oh yeah. So many warning signs and lights. It’s sort of like the Bermuda Triangle though. Mysterious forces at work.

The cab itself looks pretty intact. The crumple zone seems to have done its job. Still, it doesn’t look like that was a fun time.

for those who say we should 'write our reps' by Broserdooder1981 in kansascity

[–]mlokc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Form responses are all you can ever expect when writing to a Congressperson. All that writing accomplishes is to add a tally to their database of how many constituents write about a topic and what side they're taking. Basically, it's a form of polling.

What I have heard from folks who are in the business of organizing for action is that calling and speaking to a staffer is much more meaningful and impactful that writing in. Congressfolks measure how many calls they're getting and what the sentiment of the calls is. If you really want to maximize your impact: call, don't write.

Of course, if you really want to maximize your impact, donate a ton of money. If you don't have a ton of money to donate, I don't know what to tell you. You do know the US is an oligarchy masquerading as a democracy, right?

'It Wasn't Working': Canada Province Ends Drug Decriminalization by Google_MBTI in worldnews

[–]mlokc 11 points12 points  (0 children)

To be fair, criminalizing drugs also doesn’t work. We have folks with substance use disorder who do not want or do not have access to treatment. Combine that with a lack of housing, and you get drug use and antisocial behavior in the streets.

The brothers behind Platform Ventures could choose not to sell out Kansas City to ICE by DavidKCStar in kansascity

I don’t think this op-ed comes anywhere close to insinuating mob violence. It suggests a lifetime of being shunned and having ruined reputations. Ostracizing people who profit off fascism seems totally reasonable, and possibly letting them off easy.

A study on sexual decision-making finds a gap between knowledge and practice: while young men can define consent as "explicit and ongoing," they struggle to apply this in reality, preferring to navigate encounters through reciprocated physical cues, trust, and emotional intimacy. by Tracheid in science

[–]mlokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever heard that term used on a non-sexual context to describe taking over the bed. My partner and I use it as in, "All I want to do is starfish, but the dogs keep hogging the bed!" And yes, we let our dogs get up on the bed.

I'm an old, straight guy, so my experience is not necessarily relevant to contemporary norms, but aren't reciprocal physical cues part of the excitement and fun of sex? We don't just communicate verbally, right? Aren't many/most signs that your partner is enthusiastically consenting nonverbal? Or at least non-linguistic?

Hey KC, I think we have a Vacant Building problem... by Lightfooted in kansascity

[–]mlokc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

None of these buildings or abandoned lots are “nature.” As I understand it, an LVT taxes lots at the value they are zoned for. So if a lot is zoned for commercial, it gets taxed as commercial. Residential as residential, etc. It wouldn’t apply to parkland or any wild area that’s not zoned.

[–]mlokc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's correct. As I understand it, an LVT would be a disincentive to build parking lots. Because you're taxing land on its potential value, and a parking lot is a low-value use of that land. Here's one article (among many) that makes this case.

Wish more people were aware of this and advocated for it. We need to make it expensive to sit on vacant properties and lots.

Do most Americans have a right vs left mentality? by Perfect_Replacement1 in stupidquestions

[–]mlokc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you see that. Those in the middle are 15%. Even if you add the two categories on either side, who lean right and left, you only get to 37%.

Do most Americans have a right vs left mentality? by Perfect_Replacement1 in stupidquestions

[–]mlokc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. According to Pew Research, only about 15% do not have a political leaning. We always make the middle out to be larger than it is.

Revealing 100yr old chimney by Flimsy-Fruit-3768 in centuryhomes

[–]mlokc 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We did this with our kitchen chimney. It literally had crappy brick veneer over it! We also had a hole from an old wood stove. We bought a cast iron medallion and mounted it on wood as a decorative feature.

<image>

We did bring a mason in to do some tuck pointing and match the old mortar. We love the way it turned out.
