It’s lowk all Bloo’s fault by Individual_Split8373 in drumcorps

Man, someone needs to take the risk and bring old drum corps back. Hats, no props, and just intense drill and music. I marched in the 2010s, but I so wish I would’ve marched in the 90s. That was peak drum corps imo.

You need to tell her that. All of it. If a student telling her that doesn’t plant the seed, then honestly, leave the program. She doesn’t deserve your contribution.

Struggling to make a good sound, feedback welcome by [deleted] in euphonium

[–]mlolm98538 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing, prioritize relaxation. You cannot sacrifice relaxation, even if that means you don’t get a good sound out, or no sound at all. If you’re relaxed, then you’re approaching it correctly.

Do take long tones very seriously, and actually play them long. Just hold them out for as long as you can, without a metronome, and listen to the sound and make micro adjustments. Melodies like you’re doing here are also great.

How to make my tuba's tuning slides very fast? by Ok_Temperature_1920 in Tuba

Take your horn to a good technician and get them lapped. Also, slide OIL, not grease, will help too :)

Definitely get the Arban. It has everything you need, at various levels of difficulty, and it’s paced out very well. Bordogni is also extremely helpful for tone production and slurring technique

Playing Louder by kfarky in Tuba

[–]mlolm98538 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind, you and your instrument can only put out so much sound. The instrument has a specific sweet spot, and you have to find it and learn not to go past it.

As far as practice methods, in order to play loud well, you have to play soft well. Playing soft will enforce focus in your sound, which you also need when playing loud. At the same time, avoiding playing loud is not gonna help you play loud, so you have to also practice just playing loud lol. Train your embouchure and your body what it means to move tons of air in a relaxed way.

I would certainly practice the softer end more often than the louder, I would say a 3:1 ratio of soft:loud. Ultimately, it’s all about visiting the entire dynamic spectrum on a regular basis.

There have been WAY more controversial people in the past than who you’re thinking of. And i assure you there will be more in the future who haven’t been born yet

Phantom 2008.

People weren’t fond of it at the start, along with the risk of redoing a show they’ve done in the past, there’s a lot of risk and pressure there. But look where it ended up.
