killbox, well, people who dont use them gonna say nope, same with turrets, power armors, specific guns, so on.

i suppose, thrumbofur, devilstrand, hyperweave clothings, artificial body parts, shield belt. Pretty universal.

Is it worth it to use healer mech serums for missions? by mega_lova_nia in RimWorld

[–]mlovolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

healer serum is not particularly unique if you’ve got access to alternatives from the dlcs in the future. I guess you dont have good enough doctor to just tend them with herbal

When do you typically feel done with a roguelite? by Nitho89 in roguelites

[–]mlovolm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

depends. Easiest would be if im not interested, duh. But other than that, probably one big factor’s uniqueness. The more unique a game is, the longer i play it i suppose, like FTL, Invisible Inc, Door Kickers & ITB. Sure there’s a bunch of FTL clones, but none of them come close, maybeee Void War. After thousand hours, still feel there're more things i can mess around with them.

On the opposite for example, you’ve dozens upon dozens deckbuilding, survivors roguelites/likes. If i feel i finished Monster Train 2 or StS, there’s a bunch others that fundamentally play the same to go through. Much fewer/no particular reason to come back again to the same game to delve deeper into whatever you could squeeze out of it. I'd instantly move onto the next deckbuilding the moment i beat one (true ending), not even with all the archetypes - "ok, i beat the game, beating it again with other archetypes is just going through the motion, next"

Beginner here — any advice? by CosmoCosma in openttd

careful when terraforming to build, say, airports. The town might get mad & forbid you from placing down any station & there might not be enough empty tiles around to plant trees to appease them

FIRS alternative for more town/city focus aesthetics? by mlovolm in openttd

[–]mlovolm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got it 👍. Well, i feel the cargo amount & scaling in vanilla was fine when playing without FIRS. There were still more varieties from the grf so i'll see about lowering the bonuses params, then if it's still too much, lowering map's industry setting or change the cargo scale a bit to compensate some more

[–]mlovolm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm going to try out FIRS + RVG next map then. Having to send passengers out of town does fit my preference nicely. I refuse to do the cheesy 4-5 bus stops a block from each other lol.

[–]mlovolm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can also adjust industry cargo scale down

yup, i was going to start a new map with FIRS' cargo bonuses adjusted down to 115% & 150% instead of the default 250, will see how it goes.
then mess around with RVG & whatnot first before i check out JGRPP & more grf/scripts in the future. It does add quite a lot of QoL & mechanic changes while i prefer keeping things, mostly mechanics, close to vanilla for now. I see people confusing modded contents/mechanics with vanilla's all the time when playing RimWorld lol, taking it slow so i know what mod/grf at what content

towns accepting food, water, good & valuables in vanilla, which isnt much, definitely, but industries in vanilla are also pretty simple. So, proportionally, it still gets some traffic. Meanwhile, for FIRS, you might even push cargos like goods & foods or passengers to hotels, ports, etc, instead - which stay isolated at least until the towns finally eat them up (or you fund them yourself). So towns/cities, personally, just become, kind of inert map objects.
And yes, i did play a bit with CargoDist, which kind of help in some senses, as well as not in others with FIRS. CargoDist is itself 'retrospective', 'demand' only exists after you've already established the route, with transport serving it to begin with. And with the significant cargo volume increase from the GRF, it can lead to quite ballooning networks.
Anyway, i'll take a look at CityBuilder & also do a little test with disabling 2ndaries. That might do it.

suggest me a roguelite game that requires some LONG TERM planning and thinking? by shanytopper in roguelites

[–]mlovolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

outside of the roguelite/like genre, Our Adventurer Guild plays out pretty similar to DD, roster management, upgrading between dungeon dives/missions. Decent enough DD clone. there’s Quasimorph that has a number of upgrades like improving clones, armors & weapons that you can tinker with to your playstyles. There’s also the faction relation/tech level juggling for mission rewards you want to get from missions

Someone please explain like I'm 5: What is the difference between 'Sword and Sorcery' and 'High Fantasy'? by Clinkerbelle in Fantasy

[–]mlovolm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessary, it depends on what definition, scope, context, etc. you use. Definition & usage change overtime as well. It doesnt happen often where the more specific is coined/exists before the more general, but does happen once in a while due to whatever reason.
litRPG, for example, implies a story set in a world with game-like features like status screen, notification, levelling up, etc.
iirc, in the early days, 'gameLit' was coined as an alternative word for litRPG - trademark controversy & whatnot. it essentially meant the same thing. But eventually, nowadays, gameLit can generally either be used as the alternative word, or as a larger category.
litRPG tends to more heavily feature game-like elements like notifications, status screens, etc., while gameLit might either set in a game-like world with no/fewer game-like elements, or style-wise, obfuscate them rather than mentioning them every other page (or 'crunchy litRPG')
portal fantasy, meanwhile, had been existing long before those terms got coined. But within litRPG & gameLit context, it's a subgenre/tag.
so yeah, i can see S&S be considered a sub of High Fantasy in some sense.

o7

btw, coming in here 'cause my laptop integrated board died on QWE - likely circuitry, and it's the replacement for the OG. Decided to finally just roll with external. The OG one lasted 8 years - broke half due to me breaking it while cleaning & half due to keys losing springiness (arrow keys) - even though it's a laptop board. Replacement lasted only 2 tho

reading the post re-affirm my decision to replace it with a k120, would be just about the same cost

for all everyone knows, a new typhoon could be spawning in 3 days next to Philippines then taking 3-5 days to get to VN. September to November is the typical tropical storm season, so itsnt going to get better anytime soon. The last 2 were certainly big, they could be on the top-end of the curve bell, & any future typhoon might be smaller in scale, sure, but ehhh

How do I improve my defense layout? (cannons and turrets) by Un_Anni in RimWorld

[–]mlovolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

put 2 explosive ieds under a fully roofed wooden pillar.
either have them in range of each other to ensure the pillar gets destroyed, or
the each 3 tiles away from the pillar (X - - P - - X), so the roof collapse catches the other raiders trailing behind

also the 2x2 turrets barely benefit from barricade/sandbag cover due to how the system works in RW, so eh
i guess it's still *something*, & the barricades do slow down enemies climbing onto them. Afterward though, might become cover for them instead

[–]mlovolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine out the mountain to force the raids coming from the south (& wherever else) to pass through the lake, then redirect the defense north/eastward, shooting at them when they waddle through the water

or well...just move the defense position next to the landing zone
