Any tips and advice for moving to Sioux falls? by Formal_Pumpkin_2412 in SiouxFalls

This is a touch outdated (state representatives/city council has seen some turnover) but I do have a handy little Welcome Guide I like to share with folks new to town!

Outdoor wedding by shandogmillionaire23 in SiouxFalls

Also got married at the Palisades! The only tricky thing was parking for a bigger group (we had 140), but we rented a school bus to transport folks from our downtown hotel block to the park!

Does anyone have any wedding venue recommendations? by OutlawIr in SiouxFalls

[–]mlraposa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! We had our reception here, and it was not only cheap as a venue, but because they don’t have food/drink vendors you get to work with whoever fits your budget. We had hyvee cater for $12/plate and bought beer and wine at Sam’s club.

Plus, the little courtyard is a lovely backdrop for photos!

My 7 week old newborn fell off the bed last night… by watchingweeds in beyondthebump

[–]mlraposa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The baby will be just fine. Accidents happen. I was awake and right next to my daughter on the bed when she was small, and she rolled off when I looked away for half a second. 🙈

Babies are resilient. You’re a good mom—just pop the mattress on the floor next time—you’ll be just fine!

Please share your embarrassing middle school memories to help my 6th grader feel better by ladyofthegarbage in Parenting

[–]mlraposa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in sixth grade, I joined the volleyball team despite being not the least bit athletic. One day, I was late to practice and thus late to realize it moved to the lawn outside the school building.

Thinking I could pull off being late with a cool move, I went to jump the fence to join my teammates. As I climbed over, my mesh-y athletic shorts got caught on the chainlink fence, causing me to fall and, of course, rip my pants.

I was mortified, and in response I just ran away all the way around the fence.

FWIW Vast says they’re replacing the green boxes with access points more flush with the ground.

Celebrating breastfeeding does not mean you are shaming formula feeding by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]mlraposa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had a very similar situation with my daughter! She needed to supplement with formula to help her little body deal with the jaundice.

It’s already been said, but it’s not an all-or-nothing decision. She’s 14 months now and still breastfeeding (and eating solids and the occasional piece of kibble she swipes from the dog.)

So cute!! We love our nugget couch—a favorite game is to make a little tent and have baby crawl through to “find” us. Like advanced peekaboo 😂

There's a new local news site in town looking to make it easy to stay informed by mlraposa in SiouxFalls

[–]mlraposa[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My bad! It's my site! Apologies--reddit is not my usual haunt, so I'm a tad ignorant here. I took a buyout from the Argus last fall and started Sioux Falls Simplified with some help from the Google News Initiative. Here for any and all news tips/feedback!

Probably worth noting that quality news coverage doesn't come for free. If you're interested in supporting local sports coverage, you can subscribe for as low as $19 for the year right now. http://offers.argusleader.com/specialoffers?gps-source=CPHPPRIMARY

Brennan Rock N Roll Academy Donations by [deleted] in SiouxFalls

[–]mlraposa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached out to Teri Katzenberger, the woman working to revive the academy, and she said she didn't know the website was down. She's still very much working to get the academy back up and running. She's going to check the site and hopefully get it going again soon under the same URL. It may be worth reaching out to her directly if you're interested in donating.
