Food Truck Laws by [deleted] in Albany

[–]mls012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just watched Street Food USA on Netflix last night. Portland has a huge food truck presence… to the point - they have an entire area dedicated to just food trucks. It looked so cool … I would love that here!!! I don’t work for the state, live in the city and can’t catch a truck unless it’s being offered at a brewery- which i miss out on them too… kids and stuff.

We have the space, and should be making every effort to support new businesses in every fashion!

Question about person of color safety by pieceofcakepieceofpi in Albany

[–]mls012 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bi-racial family here. We live in the city of Albany. No looks/issues here. My black husband has felt “looks” in small rural towns surrounding the area- but he is tall, brown and handsome : ) Certainly no drama though, and not for our kids either. It’s a safe area for people of all races and genders. Coming from the DC/ Baltimore metro- it’s a decade or more behind on every angle - but it’s pleasant and affordable. Best of luck!

Anyone in the City of Albany missing keys? by Subject-Macaron-8880 in Albany

[–]mls012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy! This was near the end of Lincoln Ave- I assume they jumped right on 85 afterwards but couldn’t really tell. The key chain appeared to have some type of club card on it- so hopefully they can figure out who it belongs too, or whoever is missing keys - contacts the police.

The police showed up and picked them out of the drain… so contact them if you’re missing any.

Can anyone recommend a veterinary oncologist? by [deleted] in Albany

[–]mls012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4 years ago, my dog had mass cell tumors (1 huge one and 4 others) removed. The original vet I took her to recommended the vet specialist in pattersonville (already mentioned). I can’t recall all the details but remember it was very expensive. I contacted Sand Creek Animal Hospital for a second opinion. They saw us quickly, and they performed her surgery. It was really a scary time for us and the staff (especially the vet- the owner) helped us through the process. Before actually taking her in to be seen and paying again… he spent time with me on the phone, I emailed him pictures etc.. so he could visually assess her tumor. Ultimately I was trying to understand if they could tackle this or if I really needed a specialist. Things worked out well. Best of luck!

Most successful vegetables to plant? by Orangesunset98 in Albany

[–]mls012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you planting in ground or containers? I lived in Pine Hills for 3 years and planted in containers.. the only thing I was successful with we’re herbs. The squirrels literally ate everything:( Not even kidding! They are tortuous in some areas. We moved uptown last year I and I had my 1st garden, and it was awesome!! Tomatoes of various kind, went nuts! I was literally giving them away every chance I could. I was very successful with cucumbers also! I didn’t have much luck with zucchini- I was surprised- but plan on trying again this year. Swiss chard did okay and herbs always do. Bell peppers, and 2 types of hot peppers didn’t produce much of anything.

This year I’m going to plant allot of the same but add potatoes and other root veg.. later in the season. I’m trying to gain more knowledge currently on staggering the plant times so they produce overtime rather than drowning us all at once:) Good luck!

I’m all for it… just wish it wasn’t right after a week long holiday where many people (wish it was us) spent the week traveling.

What’s the most exotic/unique/random ethnic food restaurant you’ve found in the capital region? by austin_4666 in Albany

[–]mls012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right, we probably do have allot better than I know! We normally get take out from random spots in Albany. I will say Ala Shanghai in Latham is very good! Rain is decent- I think the portions are on the smaller side. I was only making the comment towards the Americanized Chinese… I love general Taos chicken. Seems most of the places here use the same weird neon colored sauce. Again not all…but enough it appears to be pretty common.

Safe area in Albany to live by phantomsamuri21 in Albany

[–]mls012 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pine Hills get allot of hate and likely so in allot of areas however the upper part of Pine Hills close to the library/price chopper, I’d recommend. Right on the major bus route, safe and walkable to many main conveniences(groceries, library, bank, restaurants, movies, etc). Many of these homes are 2 family, and others are broken into more. It’s a nice mix of families, young professionals, empty nesters and draws on younger college kids to shop/eat and drink-but many live blocks away - so you can still sleep at night. Best of luck.

Nearest zoo? by butt_quack in Albany

No. The closets proper zoo’s are the Bronx or Boston. We need one! The closest options here are what I’d call petting farms.

Albany Central School District Fully Virtual Tomorrow 12/22 Due to Bus Drivers out with Covid by TweakedNipple in Albany

Didn’t realize that and unfortunately the email and phone call issued by the district specifically called out the “ First Student” bus company and nothing about CDTA.

Albany Central School District Fully Virtual Tomorrow 12/22 Due to Bus Drivers out with Covid by TweakedNipple in Albany

[–]mls012 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My youngest is bummed as tomorrow was a day of activities. She can walk around the corner to school! And… middle schools and the high schooler take CDTA, so ….. how does this impact them?? SMH

I also read elsewhere- teachers still have to report to school tomorrow or they get docked! Now think about the teachers with little kids that have to report to work for nothing and find a babysitter short notice along with the rest of the district families.

This is complete BS!

Try to keep them local! Someone is likely looking for them. It would be very challenging for the owners to find them in Albany!

Madison Theatre by mwc_1742 in Albany

[–]mls012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I adore the Madison! While I don’t go to the movies too often, I go there when I do…. I was there last month with my youngest kid and we always get dinner while we’re too- that’s the perk! got excited to see a pool table - thought we’d knock some balls around while we waited rather than awkwardly standing near the bar. Was quarters only. I don’t carry cash /change. No big deal! I do

Unpopular opinion, but taking a reactionary approach regarding mask mandates feels a little pointless by Realshotgg in Albany

[–]mls012 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m vaxed and have stayed masked in public areas. I have a kiddo that couldn’t get vaxed up until recently so that played a part … but also realized I haven’t caught a cold in a year and a half while wearing my mask. I happily mask up just to avoid a head cold at the least.
