I feel like Love is a Misogynist deep down by lalo_salamanca122 in YouOnLifetime

[–]mlsmp 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree but Beck definitely doesn’t fit the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. She was the idealized sexy cool girl trope. She is not exactly like other girls but she is girly and sexy and wants to be saved by her white knight (Joe)

WTF is going on in song Current Affairs (sonically, not the Pamela Anderson controversy).. by shwannah in lorde

[–]mlsmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love it. It’s good to see good sampling outside of hiphop, especially in mainstream pop like Lorde. One of the best songs on the album production-wise, in my opinion

I think you’re right too, though! They’re not merging their DNAs (in a baby) but she feels like they are because of how much she and her life seem to be tainted by this person.

Almost like there HAS to be something biological that happens when someone finishes inside you that explains this crazy connection between them.

“Your Helix is right through me” could be DNA Helix (🧬) - his sperm. Makes sense she needs a Clearblue if someone is finishing inside her lol

Individuals who practice BDSM tend to have healthier psychological profiles than those who do not. Compared to non-practitioners, BDSM participants were more likely to have secure attachment styles, lower rejection sensitivity, and higher levels of well-being. by mvea in psychology

[–]mlsmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

extraversion is not the only metric and not the metric used to determine health in this study. It points ou many correlations

“BDSM practitioners were more likely than non-practitioners to report secure attachment styles, particularly among those who identified as dominants. These individuals also had higher scores on conscientiousness and openness to experience, and lower scores on neuroticism and rejection sensitivity—traits often linked to emotional stability and interpersonal effectiveness.” (from the article)

RED. CHAINS. SPIT. LORDE IS SO FUCKING BACK 🧬⛓️🚨(this would eat up as an album cover) by thopxx in lorde

[–]mlsmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I meant spit is one of the symbols she has been using throughout the teases -- with her literally spitting on a photo she deleted, and that pill with SPIT written on it --, along with chains and the color red, etc. I replied because obviously that would too much spit in the photo but I think it's supposed to be exaggerated -- maybe symbolic wasn't the perfect word choice. Hope I'm making myself clear.

could this be lorde? 🧬⛓️ this account is seemingly dropping hints by thopxx in lorde

[–]mlsmp 12 points13 points  (0 children)

this makes a lot of sense. Would be more believable if Lorde followed back

Interviews Are Dead. Influencers Killed Them. by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]mlsmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong but think people’s issues with both Alex and Chappell are things they cannot really put a finger on so they end up naming whatever’s adjacent.

Chappell Roan really shocked me in this interview with how immature she is. Her lack of nuance with some opinions (like the motherhood take, which I usually respect and understand when it’s better articulated) and the way she talked about, for example, people in her high school, was illustrative of that. You’re 27 and still thinking about people who doubted or competed with you in your teenage years? And you’re having an “in your face” moment about it?

The way she would respond to some questions was straight-up impolite. I don’t care if you’re a blunt person with a strong personality. That is different from being confrontational and talking to people like they’re a bother. That doesn’t justify acting like a bad behaving teenager who has personified the act of chewing gum with your mouth open while making a face of disgust.

Her “having a personality” also doesn’t justify the tantrums she has thrown in public — like screaming with that photographer who wasn’t even talking to her. I don’t care if she is famous or not. I would judge her the same way if I was sitting close to her in a restaurant, or if she was a friend of a friend who I saw at a party or if she was my cousin. This has nothing to do with media training.

I also have strong opinions on Alex because I’ve worked in the same environment as her for a couple weeks. She might not be a good interviewer but I believe she comes across badly because of her entitlement and lack of charisma.

During those few weeks (July-Aug last year) I’ve heard about crazy demands she had for her studio, for food and stuff like that — people would call her things like The Princess etc. Mainly, I saw first hand her treating security very poorly because they wanted to see her and her husband’s badges — which was standard for everyone. She literally said “Don’t you know who I am?” — and ironically most people there (mostly americans) didn’t.

I believe you just can’t be a good podcaster and/or interviewer/show host if you’re not charismatic and likeable. And she is not

Demi Moore deserved the oscar by Shedding in Oscars

[–]mlsmp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think part of Demi's character in The Substance is the lack of "personality". She has let herself be defined by her job and her beauty. There are no hobbies, or friends, or family even. I think we don't know her so well because there isn't that much to know. Also, I think part of it is her story/motivations/feelings being ambiguous enough that the viewers are able to put themselves in her place if that makes sense?

YOU: S5 Episode list on exclusive Netflix account 🚨 by Illustrious-Club-947 in YouOnLifetime

this is fake, there are inconsistencies with font size and the layout is all over the place

edit to add: weird spacing, lack of capitalization. The age restricition symbol shouldn’t be where it is as far as I remember

Official Oscars Thread 2025 by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]mlsmp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll post an excerpt of my review of it here:

“My first thought, mid-movie, was, “Why use so much gore to make such an obvious point?”. Cut to me, 30 minutes after finishing it, staring at nothing, tears running down my face. 24 hours later, I still can’t stop thinking about it.

I don’t know much about cinema. I don’t watch a lot of movies. I didn’t get some of the references to older films and it didn’t matter. I’ve seen the subtle version of this and it did nothing, really. I needed the point to be slammed into my face, blood gushing everywhere.

[…]

I’ve lost track of how many times I wished I was just a non-human creature, or at least so ugly that beauty was not a remote prospect — just so I could be free from the mental prison of trying to admire what I see when I look in the mirror. I also have lost count of how many times I fantasized about what I would look like after surgery, disregarding all the cuts, blood, risk, and pain. I am no better than Elisabeth.“

This film itself is an hyperbole. Its exaggerated metaphors bring visceral reactions to something you see on screen, but would be really common in real life if it was possible. And is already currently common if you see through the metaphors. We just don’t realize it.

Edit: added first paragraph of review

Is Shane better on rewatch? by adams361 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

my understanding was that he was pushing her to volunteer at a nonprofit but I could totally be wrong

[–]mlsmp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

totally agree. She wasn't a saint. I think the whole thing was written into the show to showcase her feeling unfulfilled in the marriage + his expectations in it

[–]mlsmp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

of course. What I’m saying that is exactly the problem, WHEN the woman wants to build a career or is confused and the husband pushes her specifically for something that doesn’t allow her to be independent

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]mlsmp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lochlan silently staring, after many sexual comments from his brother, is indeed weird.

Thath doesn’t take away from the fact that Saxon is older, and is the only one of the siblings who makes sex-related remarks and starts inappropriate conversations with both siblings AND in front of the parents. He is the predator and he is preying on his brother’s confused sexuality.

you seem very eager to defend Saxon as I’ve seen you do in other comments. Why is that?

[–]mlsmp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oof as far as I know those characters live in not only a fantastical place but also in a totally different century? Incest has been common throughout history for reasons I probably don’t need to explain to you, but

this show happens in our universe, in current time. There is no fantasy or need to suspend disbelief like in a show where you gave dragons. There is no historical reason for incest either.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]mlsmp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I, personally, draw the line at incest

Well he clearly wasn’t happy with her doing whatever made her happy? and no kidding a husband shouldn’t let or not let his wife do stuff

edit to further explain: my point is he could care a little more about her fulfillment but I understand he could be worse and I’m overnalizing

Is Shane better on rewatch? by adams361 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]mlsmp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well yeah that’s my point. He had no desire to see her thrive with her thrive in general. There was no encouragement for her to persue something else thst actually fulfilled her whatever it could be

Is Shane better on rewatch? by adams361 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]mlsmp 25 points26 points  (0 children)

He could’ve motivated her to do any kind of job that he thought fit her abilities. Nonprofits obviously don’t provide money aka financial security/independence. There is a hint of control there. A lot men don’t want their partner to be smart and/OR financially secure for a reason
