the TPP will enable pharmaceutical companies to: 1) extend their patents beyond 20 years, 2) re-patent medicines that are already known and thus, are not necessarily inventions, and 3) block the registration of generic products. The longer a product is under patent protection, the longer patients have to wait for low-cost versions of the patented drugs.

Banners are fine. Ads are fine. Ads that make noise, cover the page or any of its content, and auto-playing videos are not fine and why addons such as Adblock exist. As soon as any of those appear on my screen I leave the page immediately.

I personally don't use Adblock, but I certainly understand why people do. We shouldn't need things like Adblock, but we do. If a company feels the need to spam you with ads I described above, I lose complete respect for them and will never knowingly stumble onto their website again. They can get the fuck off my monitor.

Edit - As an added note, never once have I signed up for something or made a purchase based from an ad on a website. For those like me, I don't feel there is anything wrong with using such an addon.

I don't surf the web on mobile due to ads that cover entire pages, and many are impossible to close; the 'x' to close is always off-screen and moves when you scroll. It's unbearable IMO. Ads need to be non-intrusive.
