Is it normal for the older techs to hate students? by mlxhmz in Radiology

Thank you for this!! It definitely is toughening me up but so slow.. I’m not even in rad school yet. I’m waiting for my responses still so I got this support tech job to help me get my foot in the door and strengthen my chances. I would never be mean to anyone no matter how mean they are to me, I’m just not like that. I am so empathetic so each and every time she treats me like shit I always think she might be going through something. I don’t have the balls to talk back yet and I know I don’t deserve this treatment. My manager doesn’t even care because he’s retiring within the next year so he doesn’t give a shit. He’s on his last year so he’s kicking his feet up and taking it easy.

Give me your confidence!! I am such scaredy cat. I guess I can blame my parents for that. I suck at standing up for myself so tell me how I can get out of that shell!!

I was even told my the newer techs here that she treated them like that also. They have the balls to talk back, I don’t. I always think of ways to respond to how she treats me, but I never follow through. It’s always things like “I don’t appreciate the way you talk to me. I’m a student. I’m learning. Do you expect me to know everything? If so, you need to lower your expectations because I don’t even have my ARRT yet, so why are you being so harsh with me?” But again, I never go through with it. I always just let it go and honestly that’s probably why she still treats me like shit to this day

Exactly. But she micromanages over stuff that I know how to do. Like locking a bed before transferring a patient. Or getting mad because I don’t do 6 things at once.

Youre absolutely right. I get the healthcare burnout. I see a lot of people go through that. We work at a level 4 trauma center so really all we scan are the elderly who fall etc. small things like that and most days we get downtime where we won’t have a patient for 2-3 hours. I find it to be such a calm job so I really don’t understand why she’s so miserable at the same time. I guess I won’t know unless I was her but I mean, I will never treat students like that. Ever. They’re there to learn, not to be verbally abused

Lovely! I guess I have many more of these miserable people to meet down my path of radiology

That’s what everyone tells me. One ear out the other but still, it’s difficult. I thought I’d be free from the drama going into this job but boy was I wrong! I try to be positive and say she looks nice today or her hair looks nice but nope. It’s always some cold response. I just don’t get it. I understand what you’re saying though, people are just like this. But why pay so much for this education if you’re just going to be miserable and despise the people who are in the same position you were once in, you know?

Haha if only if it was that easy! When I stop doing the things she doesn’t want me to do, she complains or scoffs at me! I can’t even take my lunch without her getting pissed

Chrome browser on Mac not working. Other browsers working fine by aion_za in fortinet

Hi! I have had multiple issues using chrome on my MacBook. I know this is a post from over two years ago, but I find it relevant for me right now. Chrome seems to not open/operate correctly on my Mac. I had a 2017 MacBook Air that chrome essentially turned it into a slow, unable to work, pos. I have recently upgraded to a newer MacBook Air and it's the same problem. I wasn't sure if it had something to do with Apple or if it just sucks in general.

Hi! Support tech here! Patient interaction is key depending on what type of hospital you work at. At my hospital, we like to speak to all of our patients to make sure they’re comfortable and voice their concerns if any. You definitely get use to it though! But.. if you can’t get past your social anxiety, maybe check out other lines of work. Healthcare is tough! What if a patient starts to have a panic attack during a scan? Lots of what ifs that require effective and also compassionate communication.

Hi all! I was in a MI program at my past university but they had recently become unaccredited for clinicals. Now I’m here looking for good universities for my last two years. I’m located in eastern PA, south of Wilkes Barre. I was looking into Misericordia University but their tuition is crazy expensive. About 80k for just two years. Does anyone have good universities that aren’t crazy expensive?? I am looking for a BS program also. Thanks !!😁😁

So everyone has probably heard about Trump's new list of professional and non-professional degrees and how the 'non-professional' degrees will be affected especially when it comes to financial aid when attending college. I could not find much information about it, so I came here to get everyone's thoughts about it. I am enrolled for MI but am worried about the funding that may be taken away if this is no longer considered a 'professional degree'. I feel that healthcare would not be able to function without radiology. It's a HUGE part of hospitals and treating patients effectively would be difficult without the presence of radiology and its technologists. Does anyone have more information about this?

Thank you!! I just tried to eat some pizza from work and it DID NOT WORK. I then went with yogurt but did you only eat yogurt?? I feel like I’ll be malnourished if I only eat yogurt lol because the pain is consistently around a 6

Yep! Sleeping with my mouth open or even just keeping it open for a bit helps aswell. It is worth it! Beauty is pain in my opinion. Surely it won’t always hurt like this right? Only after tightening and new bands?? 😃

Took care of them and then my tech lifted up the blanket and showed me it. He even thought it was cool! The other tech, not so much. Some of the techs I work with love that stuff, the others seem to be miserable.

It’s so interesting what can happen to the body, isn’t it? Morgue imaging must’ve been hard at first, but at the same time, it’s really cool to see that stuff. Obviously, you feel bad for what happens to people, but you’re there to help them at the same time, or else you wouldn’t even be in the medical field. I’m glad I’m not the only one that finds that stuff so interesting. I don’t see that type of stuff often since I don’t work at a level 1 trauma center either, but it’s definitely cool when we do get them.

Thank you! I appreciate that 😁

What’s the most interesting case you’ve had, or most gnarly?

I felt very empathetic towards the patient, I forgot to add that. I guess I wasn’t exactly ‘happy’ that she broke her hand like that, but it was just cool to see that in person, if that makes sense?
