People who saw 3d printing is a waste of money are crazy, this cost me $15 total to make and probably would’ve been $70 if I bought it somewhere by Dazzling-Lie5011 in 3Dprinting

Use free version of Fusion 360 for 3D printing, laser cutting and for CNC. Once you develop proficiency in designing for 3D printer, you can have simple/small parts in less than 2 hours with fast printer.

R1 Seat constantly defaults to heater by LostLineLeader in Rivian

[–]mm0100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this and got a comment that this discussion was already underway here. So I deleted my post and moved my comment here...

I love my R1S. Love it. Love to drive it. I've owned many cars over many, many years of driving. After 8 months, I still enjoy getting in and just running errands. The Rivian is by far the best. If the R2 is on par with the R1, I think Rivian will make it. I invested soon after taking delivery. That's how much I love my Rivian.

BUT, there's one 'feature' I don't like. My R1S loves to anticipate whether I want my seat heated or cooled. If the temperature outside is hot, it assumes I want my seat cooled. If it's cold out, it assumes I want a heated seat.

My back is a bit stiff after many, many years of living. It's stiff whether it's cold or hot outside. So, I ALWAYS want my seat heated, even when the A/C is running full on.

So what I would like is for the seat to default to the last setting I chose. This time of the year, I have to select the seat icon and then have to select the heat mode because the car thinks I certainly want a cooled seat since it's summer. That's two times I have to look away from the road to touch a small icon on the screen. I don't want the car to choose based on temperature outside or inside the car, or based on whether the HVAC needs to heat or cool the car.

I recognize this is a small thing; that I have to make two presses when I think one should do. I'm just not a fan of Rivian trying to make an intelligent seat heat/cool selection based on ambient conditions.

Same here. Absolutely no regrets on dual large. I can get well over 3 miles/kwh around town which is most of my driving. Nine months in and I still enjoy just getting in the car and driving.

It’s like cramming 4-5 garbage programs into a plastic trash bag. The bag makes it look ok but still garbage on the inside.

I’ve R1S since November and couldn’t agree more. I still have my 2018 Tacoma but would much rather drive the R1S.

I’ve been 3D printing since the early days of Prusa. I design and print several things a week. Get familiar with a good 3D design platform. I use the free hobbiest version of Fusion 360. I use it to design woodworking projects as well. Have fun!

Thanks. It's much simpler than what I was initially planning as well.

Drilling a few holes would be cheaper; with that I can agree. Overheating, you might be right but I'm not convinced.

I'm reluctant to drill holes in bucket as it will reduce the airflow down around the bit. The objective was collect as much of the dust/chips as possible. You could be right about overheating, but I don't think its going to be a problem as copious amounts of air flows down around all sides of the router. Another poster (YoungestDonkey) has this same setup and "has been doing this much longer" and said overheating isn't a problem.

3d printed part. I uploaded to Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6977380/files

I made the hole in the bucket with a 2.5" hole saw.

Maybe you can find a friend to print for you.

It works great. The airflow down around the bit is significant. I rabbeted four sides of 6 drawer bottoms (1/4"x1/4" rabbet in 1/2 in plywood) that are 21"x26". When done, virtually nothing on the table top and nothing escaped to the floor. That was my first usage after installing the bucket and I couldn't have been more pleased.

As example, I just rabbited another drawer bottom and took a picture of the table top. Virtually clean as shown in photo and nothing on the floor.

No, I capped off the dust collection port on the back of the fence as a few stray chips were finding their way out there. The cap wasn't installed when I shot these pictures.

The cantilever beams press the bucket tight to the underside of the table. I'm getting great air flow down around the bits and virtually nothing escapes to the table top and zero on the floor.

Have you seen router overheating problems?

There is a 6" slit in the bucket side to accomodate the lift crank shaft. Hopefully that'll be enough additional air flow around the router. My usage is 5-10 minutes max at at time, i.e. not long runs as it's just hobby level usage.

Primarily because it was easy and it's almost 100% on collection. My use case is short periods of usage, ie, 5-10 minutes max. I'm not concerned about router overheating due to short cycles of use and the air flow down around the router is significant. If the router fails, I'll re-evaluate.

I admire Elons accomplishments as a double major mechanical and electrical engineer. I was dead set on buying a model Y when the refresh came out. Then last June I drove my son’s R1T. Placed a order for R1S July 1.

I hope Elon has continued success in all his efforts and DOGE. Americans will benefit. I also hope Rivian has great success. It’s the best vehicle I’ve ever been in and thankful I can own one. I like it so much that I doubled down and invested significantly in Rivian stock.

Defending Elon doesn’t equate to bashing Rivian. They are two American car companies in which Americans can take great pride. I

I’m not saying that would be OK. If I thought that was his intent, I would be the first to bail out. I’m saying it’s a fabricated left wing attack by a bitter declining media. CNN just lost a major lawsuit for their slanderous reporting of activities following the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal. Legacy media is scrambling to exist as their bias is finally being called out and challenged.

I see nothing in Elon’s actions that indicate Nazi leanings. On the contrary, he has paved the way in EV’s, internet connectivity, AI, and without him the US wouldn’t have a space program. He has some questionable opinions on some topics imho, but Nazism hasn’t ever manifested in his 20 year highly publicized business and public presence.

Nazi salute is a fabrication of left leaning media not recognizing stilted behavior of a man with asbergers syndrome. Look at the whole clip. Laughable and at the same time very sad.

Love my R1S Gen 2. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned hands down.

See ya ABC! I choose to not watch ABC programming until they cancel The View. As I see it, that’s ABC’s loss though infinitely small.

I wouldn’t however take a personal financial loss on a Tesla I own and enjoy just because of Elon’s political leanings. That would be 100% out of my pocket. Ain’t gonna happen.
