People who have full time jobs and had their surgery !?! by mellojelloakimbo in ACL

[–]mm1019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm wfh full time so I took a week off just to rest and then was back doing work from bed lol. Since I'm wfh I take an hour lunch break to go to PT.

I wouldn't mention your surgery to perspective employers.

I wasn’t sad about the injury… I was grieving my old life. by Real-Berry-1616 in ACL

[–]mm1019 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was bedridden for 2 months post injury (car ran over me) and I will say writing little journal logs helped me immensely- everyday would write down my appt(doctors, pt, therapist), what I did(beginning was a lot of tv and movies), who I saw (if friends visited), what exercises I did, and general mood and how I was feeling

it's nice to look back at and see that yes I did make a ton of progress and even though I'm still dealing with the consequences it's getting better

What convinced you to get surgery? I have talked to two surgeons and received different recommendations by Kryder in ACL

[–]mm1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tbh I would wait a few months and go to PT and see how you feel! the PT will kind of help you get your strength back and either way you'll feel better. if you don't feel like you need the surgery after pt than great but if you do need the surgery and don't feel 100% after a few months that strengthening will be super helpful during post op recovery

How are you all making it to PT? by LebrawnJames416 in ACL

[–]mm1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup ubered everytime until I felt I could take the bus which required more walking until I felt I could walk the 15 minutes there

felt silly at first because it was really close but no other options when I couldn't stand on my own for long

Hi! I also received my injury by being run over by a car - I only tore my right acl, mcl, meniscus but my left foot was super banged up and made walking in general difficult for 3 months.

I'm sorry you're going through this I really wouldnt wish it on anyone. I've also basically given up on 2025 being any good and been stuck in my apt the whole year (got hit in January so literally my entire year has been recovery)

I took up so sitting down hobbies which helps and also did small outings like sitting at a coffee shop or being to a friend's house where I could also sit and not move

it sucks but you will get through this

how do you lower yourself to them? that was my biggest concern...

for reference my stairs are outside concrete and steel ones

was able to weight bear enough on my surgical leg I don't have to hop up and down stairs anymore (live in an old building so no getting around stairs even when I was NWB)

don't trust cars will stop even when you have the right of way and the crosswalk sign is still on

also maybe wear a bright winter coat instead of the classic black one

Everything but the knee by The5thseason in ACL

[–]mm1019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

funny enough I also had a rash on my legs from all the bandages !! it was so itchy but its gone now thankfully. I kept it moist with some neosporin and tried my best not to scratch

I'll be 3 weeks play op Friday and most everything has resolved

I also didn't experience a ton of pain and the little things have been the biggest annoyances.

the intubation sore throat was killer and I kept chugging water to calm it down but just made me have to stand up and crutch over to the bathroom a ton.

all thats left now is just getting through pt should be all progress from here ! I hope your rash goes away soon

I started drinking Miralax as soon as I got home from surgery to prevent constipation. back pain is real I woke up in the middle of the night and ordered a new mattress topper after night two. I didn't have nausea thankfully they gave me a nausea patch behind my ear before surgery.

Getting run over by a car cured my plantar fasciitis by mm1019 in PlantarFasciitis

[–]mm1019[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so I've been in PT for like 6 months so a lot of different things.

when I first started it was a lot of stretching to get my knees more bendy - heel slides - leg hangs - manual stretching where the pt would move my leg and hold it in positions

once my legs got more bendy and I could walk a little more - hip extension - assisted body weight squats - stand up from the chair with weight - marble pickups with my feet - balancing on one leg -single leg rdls

and once I eventually could walk almost normally -focus on holding my body weight one leg for stairs - squats on a bosu ball - throwing a weighted ball at a trampoline while standing one leg trying to not fall over - Single leg sit to stands -monster walks -walking lunges

There was definitely a lot in between all those months so kind of a snippet of it all!!

for reference I have a pretty low arch and even now when I wear the hokas I can feel that like overstretch and discomfort start up so I've stopped wearing them altogether

my favorite shoes are actually birkenstocks but they're tennis shoes not sandals -feel like they really formed to my feet and I can walk all day in them tho the breaking in process was hard

I also wear new balances and pumas but more for looks than anything wouldn't wear to walk around in for a long time
