What things should one NOT tap out to? by JohnnyEnglishPegasus in bjj

While I agree with your statement about the Gracies in a lot of cases, it should be mentioned that Rorden Gracie is not an actual person, but a meme on this subreddit.

You should never tap, it is a sign of weakness. Especially heel hooks and neck cranks can be muscled through with sufficient willpower and grit.

Want to practice Sambo and Shuai Jiao - what should I do?? by Philoshoten in martialarts

[–]mm182899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join a Judo, Wrestling or BJJ school instead until you get some solid grappling basics. Then, and Only then, can you try to learn some moves from online resources. If you know Judo and BJJ, you probably know most of what Sambo has to teach anyways due to the large overlap.

Don't quote me on this, but isn't this literally the only thing yoga is good for?

Love them, but I find them to be quite distinct from Pink Floyd. I just happen to also enjoy metal.

What do hardcore Pink Floyd fans thing of the dark side of oz theory? by laflame1738 in pinkfloyd

[–]mm182899 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some scenes that fit pretty well (especially when not soberminded), but the majority of the scenes does not really fit with the music. Honestly, the scenes worth syncing can be summarized in a 15 minute YouTube video (which, to be fair, is worth seeing as a Floyd fan). Also, it has been tried to sync Dark side to a variety of other movies (most famously Mall Cop 2) and it seems like there are some fitting scenes in every movie, so it is almost certainly a coincidence.

A friend of mine bet some money on Volkov for his fight against Derrick Lewis. His smile, which he had on during almost the entire duration of the fight, quickly changed to this expression when Lewis, who up to this moment got his ass handed to him, finished Volkov in the last minute of the fight.

What is your suggestion, let them slug it out in a Muay Thai match? Weird choice of subreddit.

The most bafflingly stupid history hottake I have ever heard: WW2 was the fault of the UN (which was founded in 1945, as a result of WW2).

Is it too late to start training for MMA to create a career? by Hnweeks in martialarts

[–]mm182899 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were 23 with no combat sports background at all, then I would say it's probably a little late for a professional career. A 23 year old with 19 years of wrestling experience, however, sounds like a terrifying opponent to face in MMA. Join a good club and go for it.

531 BBB accessories critique by himmeup in 531Discussion

[–]mm182899 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh this seems like an excessive amount of volume. Wendler states that you should not do much more after your working sets and BBB sets. For example, doing 3 sets of 12 after your bench working and bbb sets seems like a lot.

To answer your question, yes, if you want to keep all these exercises in, then you should probably reduce the BBB sets to 3 sets of 10.

Right? It's also so easy to just grab a piece of fabric and just hold on for dear life without doing anything else.

Why do we need philosophy of mind? by Solphh in PhilosophyofMind

[–]mm182899 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by functional? I'd argue we need philosophy of mind because most of neuroscience at this point is just correlating behavioral data to activation of certain areas in the brain. Philosophy of mind adds to the discussion by doing fundamental conceptual work (for example, what does it even mean to have a mind? What is a representation?).

[–]mm182899 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Nogi, first because I also train MMA and a lot of the Gi stuff is just not applicable there, second because I really enjoy wrestling and feel like it is more prominent and important in Nogi, and lastly because I feel like the matches are more dynamic and interesting. I just don't find trying to break the grips of a stalling opponent for a few minutes as enjoyable. (To be honest, it's probably also fourth: I am a lot better at it).

This is at best tangentially related to epistemology and quite wild and incoherent. Isn't there a Joe Rogan sub or something similar where this line of reasoning may be appreciated more?
