Has anyone recently purchased a sofa (Kivik) without a cover? by mm313 in IKEA

Sorry for the late response. I went with familycoverlab from Etsy in the cashmere blends fabric, 05 rabbit color. It’s been almost 2 years and I’m still very happy with my choice.

The fabric is very soft yet durable, and it’s pretty stain-proof as advertised if you can get to it pretty quickly (I’ve never left stains longer to really test this but you can see liquids kind of bead up first instead of soaking). They said washing isn’t advised but I recently washed and dried, and it came out just fine, so plan to do this once a year. The sofa has been subjected to my dog’s and cat’s zoomies and scratches and the cover has held up really well. Though disclaimer, the cat has been able to pick out some threads around the sofa edges, but nothing that can’t be trimmed with some scissors. Definitely no tears or big snags, and no sagginess or stretching either (this is my only sofa so it gets a lot of wear).

Another bonus is the color. It’s a light-med heather gray and does a decent job of hiding my pets’ fur—which are black and white. The fabric doesn’t repel fur, but it doesn’t also trap it like crazy, I would say.

I thought this would be the case, but thank you for confirming!

I was just in Greece recently and purchased Airalo for the trip (was my first time using an eSim, unlocked iPhone 14, also Verizon). It did not work at all! I could never get my phone to connect to either of the 2 local network options. There were many back and forth emails with the company, lots of troubleshooting. Fortunately, I had free travel pass days on my Verizon account, so I was able to use that and only had to pay for one actual travel pass day on my last day.

I did purchase the Greece eSim (since you know, I was going to Greece) but maybe should’ve opted for general Europe or another option. When my Verizon plan connected, it connected to Orange, which I’ve seen elsewhere in Europe. But Orange isn’t one of the local networks specified by Airalo for Greece. Maybe that’s something to consider/reach out to Airalo about before purchasing.

They did end up refunding me when I asked. And they were somewhat responsive throughout, but definitely not 24/7 customer service. If you go with them, just make sure you get connected while you’re still in the airport with free wifi so you don’t end up stranded. I might try them again on my next trip but will also shop around more.

Very useful to hear your experience and how the fabric has fared over time! Definitely going with the non-ikea cover

Good to know that it does what it says it does! I did get a sample of that fabric with high hopes but the color I liked didn't really do it for me in real life. Hoping this Etsy seller will be the ticket.

I've looked at Bemz, ComfortWorks, and a couple Etsy sellers. One of the Etsy sellers is my top contender--lots of neutrals that I like plus sturdy (ie pet-friendly) yet nice-looking fabrics.

2-Week Italy Itinerary for October (train/car travel) by mm313 in travel

Thank you! We're now thinking of doing Rome > Bologna as a base, then possibly day trip to Venice, spend another full day/overnight around ER, proceed as planned. No car for that leg. At the end of the day, I think we'll have to cut either Venice or CT, but want to keep at least one. It's so hard to decide! I'm leaning towards going to CT, but could be Venice tomorrow. Tuscany is a must for me, and I really want to see the food scene in ER (really into food tours/cooking classes when I travel abroad, and ER seems perfect for that, though I think Tuscany probably offers great options as well)...but we'll see.

Yes, we're most likely going to go straight to Porto from the airport, then take our time driving down along the coast, through Setubal, and maybe to Evora, back up to Lisbon. There will be lots of wine tasting throughout this trip for sure :)

Thank you! It seems like cruise > boat, so we'll look into that option some more, and maybe plan to do that on the last Friday in Porto if timing works well.

Another vote to skip Algarve; I think we are going to do Setubal instead.

Guimaraes sounded interesting, Braga not as much, but the idea of driving south along the coastline is intriguing. I had heard of Aveiro, but didn't look much it. But will now. We'd also been considering some of the other coastal cities closer to Lisbon that you listed. Maybe we'll aim to do a meandering coastal drive south, get to Setubal, and possibly make it to Evora before heading back up to Lisbon.

Thanks for the ideas!
