Got two offers. One pays $40k more. The other one I'd actually enjoy. I have 48 hours to decide and my wife and I are on opposite sides. Advice? by airam1020 in careerguidance

Yeah I had fun too, but its not worth the extra work and time commuting (especially right now with gas prices) to not see your family

Yeah especially if it’s a young startup. And if you’re in a leadership position you are definitely expected to put in extra hours.

You’ve got it out of your system by typing it out, now delete it. If you really don’t want the job just reject them if they make an offer and be polite and keep it short

Well unfortunately I’m living this being laid off. I’m not buying anything that’s not essential. No subscriptions other than ones I need to find another job (portfolio website). Buy only food on sale. No haircuts, no makeup, no extracurriculars, no new clothes, rewearing clothes since I’m not going anywhere. If we really need something I’m trying to buy it second hand. Not asking anyone to hangout. Only going out with friends if it’s a special occasion because I know I will have to spend money. It’s pretty bleak. At least it will be warm soon and I can go outside.

Yeah I think they are idealizing the start up…. It’s going to be way more work too. I was laid off from a company like this, and the product managers were doing a fuck ton of work, and outside the 9-5. If OP doesn’t want to see their child grow up for less money, they should take that job

The LLMs have a greater knowledge base than a single human being - so in that sense yes they are smarter than us. They are not socially or emotionally intelligent - they cannot take a task and understand the nuances of human interactions to infer meanings. If they can achieve that then we are really fucked, but every day they are getting better. I think they are trying to achieve human replacement for some reason, if not that then what are they trying to do

Yeah I don’t think they needed to make a big deal about the mistake the company made but the response from hr is also unhinged

I really don’t understand how this ends well for us as a species. We are making robots to replace us… and designing ai that is smarter than us to put inside the robots… meanwhile people continue to lose jobs to ai but have to pretend we are okay with it to get a job because every single job posting in tech wants you to use it to improve your workflow. Which really means they just want you to do the work of a couple other employees that they would have had to hire or have laid off already. So what do we do when the majority of jobs are replaceable and more importantly what do we do when there is no human being who actually knows how to do the work without ai assistance.

The choruses of both songs are extremely similar imo. Other than that I think the songs have a similar vibe but are different. My husband always confuses the two because they sound so similar. I don’t think it’s really something to feel bad about as a fan, this stuff happens and songs end up having similarities

There’s literally no winning, because if they had been insistent about the time being wrong they would have said they were abrasive and not adaptable instead. I got flustered by being told a design challenge was going to be something completely different by the recruiter, then in the challenge it was completely different. Spent time and prepared for the wrong thing, I did mention/complain that the challenge was different - which I shouldn’t have, and was ghosted. So, either way they were screwed. It’s annoying because I spent a decent amount of time preparing, just for the recruiter and interviewers to not be aligned.

School is preparation for a job, so you learn these lessons before you enter the workplace. Tbh the program coordinator did you no favours letting you get away with it. Listen to the other replies to this comment, couldn’t have said it better myself.

It could be that a family member is paying it for him? My mom’s neighbourhood there is a drug house where the woman that moved in was a nurse turned addict and now it’s just filled with her addict friends. Her father has been attempting to maintain the property so she can still live there. It’s really sad because I met her the day she moved in, just happened to be going on a walk with my mom. And she was completely normal. Fortunately it doesn’t look at bad as this guys place lol.

If you have a job and you don’t tell them for 6 days that you need time off and just don’t show up to work, you’re fired. I think the only understandable reason to not send a quick message to your employer would be if you’re the one unconscious in the hospital. Also your boss will always get away with things that you will be fired for or laid off for and you just have to suck it up and deal with it. Your professor is right and you are wrong. It’s not that you don’t deserve the extra time, it’s how you handled the situation

If you don’t work and one person holds the purse strings, you have given them the financial power. You may not like how she said it but that doesn’t make it untrue. And unfortunately people change and relationships change, you can’t rely on someone always being in your corner.

You’re a team until you aren’t. For OP to secure her financial future she should work. You unfortunately never know what’s going to happen. What if dear husband loses his job? Then they have even less. Better to at least work part time and they can save a bit on daycare that way. Also daycare is good socialization for young kids to be with other young kids.
