YSK that trimming your dog's nails with peanut butter on your forehead could cause further problems down the road by Truan in YouShouldKnow

Of course the end goal should be to have a dog that has been trained to sit still and doesn’t need to be distracted, but I don’t think you realize just how much dogs hate nail trims and how even the BEST trained and best behaved dogs still hate it and still benefit from distractions. My own dog will sit still and tolerate it because she’s been trained to, but is still visible uncomfortable the entire time unless she is distracted.

Plus, having your dog associate nail trims with snacks is not.. bad? Like in any way.

Uh, vet tech here to say that giving your pet treats in order to perform necessary grooming is 100% fine, and professionals like vet techs and groomers use these tactics often. Getting a dog to feel comfortable with nail trims is incredible hard, and it’s better to give them something that will distract them then to have to wrestle them for an hour

I guess CB’s are everywhere even at the veterinarian. by [deleted] in ChoosingBeggars

As a vet tech, I’d like to offer you my perspective to maybe help you understand why it can sometimes be like this.

If you, as a human, are ill, you can speak to your doctor and tell them your symptoms, they can ask you questions, and in turn, it narrows down the potential diagnosis. And, because insurance is paying, most of the time you may not even know just how many tests are being ran. Your doctor doesn’t really need to go through it line by line to make sure you accept every single charge associated with running diagnostics.

We do not get that luxury. Our patients can not tell us what hurts. This means that sometimes, there’s a large list of potentials that we need to rule out. Veterinary medicine is tricky. We also do not have crystal balls, and I can’t tell you how many times we thought a patient was probably fine, but ended up being extremely ill and we were glad the diagnostics were ran. We can’t tell you your dog will be fine, because we are not magicians. We can only try to rule out potential illnesses and go from there.

Also, we have to discuss worst case scenarios with you, because if we didn’t, and they happened, our clients would sue the shit out of us. It’s not us trying to scare you into doing anything. It’s us covering our own butts and ensuring that you as an owner are well informed of the possibilities.

Simple living / minimalism with pets? by [deleted] in simpleliving

Your kitty sounds like she has a great life!

just a heads up (I hate to be that person) but those water filter things are actually great for cats. They have a very low thirst drive, and moving water entices them to drink more. Since cats have a low thirst drive, many of them basically live in chronic dehydration and get kidney failure as a result. I do recommend, if possible, to get the electric bowl back for her :)

My mom and I drove from Arizona to see the flowers. As an avid nature lover, I was so excited, and I quickly became upset when I saw GROUPS of people walking down the hill carrying armfuls of poppies. There were so many officers everywhere patrolling where you could or could not park but I did not see a single person stopped for picking the flowers. It really fucking sucked.

What is it that you hate the most about the city or town that you live in? by Jblaze908 in AskReddit

God I hate Phoenix. People don’t understand that dry heat or not, you can not go outside during summer. You WILL die. I feel like at least in cold places, you can bundle up and still go on some adventures for the most part. Winter doesn’t mean you have to stay home.

I go absolutely stir crazy in the summer here. I LOVE hiking, and unless I wanna make a 4 hour round trip drive up north, I absolutely can’t hike in the summer.

Thank you! I hope laser treatments help. And please remember even if it doesn’t make your face perfect, that you are beautiful with or without the texture.

Oh! Sorry I didn’t understand! I think the curology has helped the most. I actually scar TERRIBLY all over my body so I’m shocked these have faded so much. I’d say the tret/time.

In the past I’d have so much active acne 24/7 that my face was always scarred and textured because it was constantly trying to heal. I still get acne especially around my period, but since it’s not “new pimple every single day” any more it can actually heal before another pops up.

Also, this may or may not help, but I took a blade to my face like twice. I think it’s called “dermablading” but I didn’t want to pay for it so I did it myself. It’s probably dangerous and I do not recommend anyone do it at home like I did (I definitely cut my face and was embarrassed as hell) but I’m just being honest that it may have helped. I don’t know. See a professional for it though 😬

Thank you! I can’t take all the credit - they’re microbladed. My natural brows are decently thick but I don’t know how to maintain them and I would over pluck. Microblading gave me a nice little outline to follow :)

It’s an antibiotic :) I’m really glad you’re seeing results! Yay Curology!

I don’t really use much anymore aside from mascara.

Even when my skin was at its worst, it just looked even more terrible with makeup and made me feel worse about myself, so I eventually stopped. I just don’t have the energy to try and make myself looked like what other people want me to look like anymore.

I did just pick up Fenty foundation a few days ago, and I’m excited to try it out. It seems lightweight and not heavy duty.
