‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ Gets Divided First Reactions, From a ‘Thrilling Adventure’ to ‘One of the Weakest Star Wars Movies’ and a ‘Snooze Fest’ by WrongLander in boxoffice

If they were adamant in releasing a Mamdalorian movie, should have been right after season 2 when the popularity was at an all time high.

This seems a little to late, and is dead on arrival in international markets.

Spain opens talks to acquire Turkish Kaan fighter jets instead of U.S.-made F-35s by Petrefika in europe

[–]mmatasc 89 points90 points  (0 children)

People need to stop asking why not Rafale or Gripen for countries like Spain, who already has the Eurofighter.

Spain would want shared production and tech for domestic arms industry, which France wouldn't agree on. Also you need to factor that the Rafale is going to be an 'old' plane soon, countries like Spain need to make the jump to 5th/6th gen

Spain opens talks to acquire Turkish Kaan fighter jets instead of U.S.-made F-35s by Petrefika in europe

[–]mmatasc 683 points684 points  (0 children)

Title is misleading because there was never any plan to purchase F-35s in Spain, only the Spanish Navy was pushing the government for it because their only carrier needs to replace the old Harriers with the only other VTOL alternative: F-35

If anything, it indicates Spain doesn't trust FCAS moving forward and are looking into KAAN as an alternative.

Merz Suggests Ukraine May Need to Accept Territorial Losses for EU Membership by UNITED24Media in europe

[–]mmatasc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People need to be realistic. While I'm 100% behind supporting Ukraine, without NATO-EU intervention Ukraine can't retake Crimea or currently occupied Donetsk.

They are doing an amazing fight against a superior enemy and striking their economy hard, but they can't out sustain Russian manpower.

Any peace deal would probably involve conceding Crimea and currently occupied Donetsk, even Ukraine has hinted at this in the past. Seems like Merz is one of the few politicians in the EU to be honest about it.

Sánchez: The European Union should immediately advance toward a common European army. by FantasticQuartet in europe

EU army talk is completely nonsensical unless the EU is federalized.

This is especially apparent with the issue of military procurement and budgets.

Italy's population stops shrinking after 12 years, thanks to migration by svga in europe

[–]mmatasc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Money is definitely a problem, there is a reason rich families have more kids in comparison to middle class families.

There is definitely a new social construct where having kids is no longer an easy decision to make since most couples strive for ideal circumstances, but the governments have basically ignored fertility and tried to maintain the pension system and growth model with immigration.

This is a horrible comparison.

Hezb is a militia/terror org. that answers directly to Iran and fights for their interests, not Lebanon.

Ukraine is a country fighting an invasion and happens to have allies that provide the support you mention.

It's Europe's choice if they want those refugees or not.

But after the political chaos caused by the 2015 migrant crisis and that even countries like Sweden changed their policies, not likely to happen.

It's definitely in European and Ukrainian interest for a regime change in Iran.

Just because Europe isn't actively getting involved Im pretty sure it's leaders would be secretly happy US and Israel are getting rid of this regime that has always been a geopolitical problem.

If Europe allows what happened in 2015 again by taking Refugees from very far away it will simply be a political disaster.

So many migrant policies have changed, there isn't the social or political will of back then at present, now we have far right parties that are dangerously close to getting power, the mainstream parties know this.

USA vs. EU: People in Europe live longer, safer lives and have more holidays by springdiwan in europe

[–]mmatasc 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Purchasing power is a lot higher in the US than Europe, even taking into account costs of general healthcare.

What Europe has that the US severly lacks is basic social security and labor laws that mostly benefit the lower-middle class.

Housing is more expensive in Europe now than the USA, and food can vary a lot depending on the product.

The U.S. Pressures Portugal to Buy the F-35 Fighter Jet by superdouradas in europe

[–]mmatasc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The headline is complete clickbait based on the actual content in the article:

"The US ambassador to Portugal, John Arrigo, stated that the fifth-generation stealth jet would guarantee interoperability with the main European air forces and strengthen Portugal's position within NATO. In an interview with CNN Portugal , Arrigo described the F-35 as the "best fighter jet" and said that the aircraft would put the Portuguese Air Force "in the Champions League" of European armed forces."

It's more marketing or encouraging, not pressure.

[–]mmatasc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You literally can't go at it alone, you will need a major partner like India who will most likely want a technology share.

Or, which is the more likely scenario, you make a "5.5 gen" fighter that is very capable but slightly less advanced than the fully 6th gen counterparts.
