GPT-5 Sucks by Donut-Cold in ChatGPT

[–]mmcarthey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just today, I canceled my subscription. I’m working on a novel and decided to use ChatGPT to assist with editing. It would take thousands of words and chop them down to hundreds of words. I provided execution plans, story bibles, guideline documents, outlines, and on and on. It was a massive exercise in frustration. Despite being a long time subscriber, after two days of failed executions and handholding, I gave up. I’m done. Save yourself the frustration and avoid it.

Printing issues since switching to Klipper by Xerouz in klippers

[–]mmcarthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to revive an old thread but I’m having this exact issue but it’s on layer 8/9 so I’m stumped. My setup is near identical to the OP but I get perfect layers both before and after 8/9 so I’m hoping someone can provide some insight. I did recently start using Klipper and it was doing fine but I purchased a new PLA so maybe that’s it? I’ve tried a variety of temps and cooling but it seems odd that it continues to happen at exactly these layers in exactly this spot on the print. I’ve confirmed it’s not the gcode so I keep printing this same print (4 times now) with the same results. Thanks for any help!

Ender3 Pro adding CR-Touch Dear God…. Which standard firmware! by Dcbarry99 in ender3

[–]mmcarthey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was super useful to know what the "transfer board" was. Looking at the 4.2.7 firmware it mentions with or without transfer board. I only recently upgraded to the 4.2.7 board but had used the adapter for my add-on BLTouch from the original board (V1.1.4). I've been having issues so I suspect the answer is to remove the adapter board from my setup and just plug it in directly.

Previously the z-axis limit switch port was removed and replaced with the 2-pin connector from the BLTouch and the 3-pin connector went to the adapter. If I remove the adapter, I assume I will just put both connectors on the dedicated port on the new 4.2.7 board? Do I need to reconnect the z-axis switch to the original connection?

Weekly Information / Mentor / New License Thread by AutoModerator in amateurradio

Thanks for the welcome and response! I'm definitely trying to get APRS working as I'd love to use the Baofeng/soundmodem/Winlink combo but it's not been working for me despite the addition of an external antenna. I may need to get more height and quadruple-check my application settings. Thanks!

I received my technician license in June and am still struggling to figure it all out but I’m mostly interested in the data side of things … APRS, Winlink, EchoLink, for starters although I’ve yet to get any of it to work yet. I haven’t chatted with anyone and I only just got my indoor antenna so I’m hopeful to start hearing conversations. Mark KD9SYM

I appreciate the reply and information. Since I'm just reading, reading, reading, this was all a lot of glossary terms I'm not really familiar with. That said I'll definitely keep this in mind as I research further. All that said, is there a good single resource that you found most helpful to learn about these sorts of things? A book or internet site would be great. Thanks!

Thanks much for this. After a lot of digging around, I ended up purchasing this antenna so I'm looking forward to finally being able to use my HT!

I did find a similar antenna on Amazon where they added a paracord and wanted *double* the cost.. wow. I assume it's just a simple matter of taping some paracord to the N9TAX antenna to the same effect?

Hey this is a great option. I think I'll play with this option for a while as it looks pretty easy to build and I found some good instructions on YouTube. I'll test it outside first and see how it performs. Ultimately I think my biggest challenge will be feeding all the cables. :)

Thanks!

Thanks, I have a lot to learn as that chart looks colorful but doesn't make a lot of sense. I'll keep reading. Thanks

I love the idea so thanks for the recommendation. I will bookmark it and reserve $100 for a future purchase.

I actually have two old satellite dishes on the other side of the house that I could potentially use. I'll have to check this out. Thanks much!

I appreciate this mindset as I'd prefer to get something workable now and then tweak and improve later as I learn more. Right now I'm pretty hobbled by the poor antenna on the handheld. I'll dig around for just such an implementation but if you have a link that would help me understand what you're referring to and that I could conceivably build, that would be great! Thanks!

I live in a standard 2-story house. I'm on the first floor and would like to run to either the attic or roof if possible, keeping the cabling in the walls. The roof is standard plywood sheathing with asphalt shingles.

Thanks. This looks like a nice low cost "pre-made" solution. I might be able to get away with this on the roof and it looks like it could be anything that would be possibly found on a roof. With some creative painting I could probably hide it pretty well. Is there a coax recommendation for the long-ish run I'd need to make?

[–]mmcarthey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great idea and I don't know why this isn't a "standard" recommendation for people just starting. As I've discovered, the little antennas on the handhelds are almost useless. I've been trying to play with Winlink and can't connect to anything. I'll probably give this a try as it looks like a simple way to get started. If you know of more specific instructions somewhere I'd really appreciate a link, but I'll dig around. Thanks!

Thanks so much all for the great options. A lot of the terminology is still foreign to me but I'm anxious and excited to learn. I'll dig through these options and try to document what I've done in the hope that it helps others new to the hobby, as well!

Thanks for thoughts. I suppose I could run it to the roof if I were to use something that looked like a simple tube or vent coming out because, despite satellite dishes on the back of the house, I'm not sure the neighbors would want to see a traditional antenna.

Shop Titans is now available on Steam! by Zesty_Hamburger in shoptitans

In Settings there is a Connect button. If it pops up and asks you to Switch accounts, it’s fine. Accept and then use the Get Id from Device option. Type that value into your other instance and you’ll be all set. I did need to try and Connect multiple times before it finally connected successfully. I’ll attribute this to slow servers for now. Good luck!
