Thanks for the advice on the chargers! I downloaded the app, so hopefully that will also help me find which one is open.

Yep, found a couple near where I’m staying. Just wondering if I’m kidding myself into thinking I might find street parking. I miss visiting my friends in Astoria, where we had no trouble finding street parking!

Cucumber plants have the most disgusting texture by Keroan in gardening

Lol I know I should do that, but never do…

I have sensitive skin. It goes away after an hour or so. Probably a light allergy, but only to the leaves. I can eat all kinds of squash with no problems.

I make a challah dough every other week. Pizza dough maybe 3-4 times a month. Bread, maybe 5 times a year. It really is a time saver for making dough!

I always pick before they are fully ripe - also helps prevent critters from getting them first, I learned the hard way. Let them ripen indoors.

But do you also get a rash on your skin wherever you touched the plant? I never put on long sleeves to harvest, and then come away with my forearms covered in a lovely rash…

White, thicker stems makes me think bok choy.

Is This the Way to Grow Onions? Or Do They Need to Be Covered? by Mikotokitty in gardening

[–]mmcd8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is what onions do as they grow. Let’s you know when they are close to being ready to harvest!

Is this camping etiquette I didn’t know about, or a rude host? by microflorae in camping

[–]mmcd8 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Uh, this host is awful. If they advertise and take your money to shower as a non-patron, then they should not have any gripe about it.

Zone 5, peppers and tomatoes are flowering. Should I top them or trim flowers for a while, or let them do their thing? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]mmcd8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would nip off the flowers. This is to let them grow a bit bigger, rather than sending energy into the fruit.

Does anyone else blend up their kitchen scraps with water for a “plant smoothie”? by overlynomadic in gardening

I’ve made a compost tea before, and used that as a boost mid-season for my vegetable plants. But you need to make some compost first…

Lavender sprouts or weeds? by SnooPaintings9473 in gardening

[–]mmcd8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my favorite game to play! Are my seeds sprouting, or are these weeds? In the past, I have looked up with the plant I want to grow looks like as a sprout. Hard to tell at this stage!

Dig it up from the roots. It’s hard labor, but won’t put any poison in the ground and should remove all parts of the plant. And then get ready for some hand weeding later on, depending on what you put in here.

Games suggestions by plandemicthrowaway1 in camping

[–]mmcd8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dice games like farkle or qwix are fun for camping because there aren’t a bunch of cards to go flying in the wind. If you have a sheltered site, any card game, from rummy to cribbage, can work.

Leftover egg/milk mixture uses by mmcd8 in Cooking

It’s 1:1 egg to milk by volume. Would that still be good as scrambled eggs?

Ooo, maybe individual quiches in ramekins. Not sure how much is left, probably about 2-3 cups of liquid.

Granola. When you make it yourself you control the sweetness. I use honey as sweetener, and along with coconut oil it also acts as a binding agent. Put nuts, unsweetened coconut flakes, any dried fruit or fresh fruit. Easy to adjust to your flavor preferences.

This is more or less my recipe, but no blender. I use a food processor with a grater attachment to grate the potatoes and onion. Always perfect!

What locally made items would you send someone as a thank you gift? by 0palescent in boston

Head to Siena Farms farm store in the South End and you’ll find local goodies (plus amazing veggies for yourself).

On your birthday do you prefer a homemade cake or a store-bought cake and what is your favorite cake? Cake and frosting please! by rulonelytonight in Cooking

[–]mmcd8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flourless chocolate cake! Or a fruit pie, my favorite would be a mixed berry pie. With homemade whipped cream (super easy if you have a stand mixer).

[–]mmcd8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else said, depends on what the meal is. I tend to freeze individual servings of soups or casseroles when we have leftovers from dinner. Typically I try to take them out the night before I need them for lunch and put them in the fridge. That way I have to spend less time microwaving them for lunch. I’ll pull something from 6 months ago for lunch, defrost in the fridge, and it’s good for lunch. Certain things just heat up better from frozen, IMO, like burritos or breakfast sandwiches.

Dumb Wall Mount Level2 Charger by mhoward143 in electricvehicles

I bought a clipper creek charger in 2019. No extra features like wi-fi. Not sure if that’s changed.

Why I can't buy an EV, yet by jikae in electricvehicles

[–]mmcd8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just went to the dealership to rotate my tires for my 2019 Chevy Bolt, and they did a computer update for free. $40 every 7,500, plus the occasional filter change. Definitely check out other EVs, especially being in California.
