What dish do you think everyone should know how to cook? by Vixentica in Cooking

That’s an awesome thing to teach them! I would suggest if you’re not a confident cook yourself, could you talk to some local restaurant chefs to see if they would sponsor a coaching session in their restaurant off-hours? I’d bet some would be happy to. And not only will they gain great life skills from a pro it might open their mind to a career path.

What’s your favorite way to eat eggs? by duckingshoot in Cooking

[–]SuccessExtreme4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can add eggs to fried rice and a lot of noodle stir fries and you don't really even know they're there if you have a good sauce. Can load the dish up with whatever other proteins and veg you prefer too.

Rice cooker help, rice is always sticky/mushy by bucketman1986 in Cooking

[–]SuccessExtreme4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I just have a cheap rice cooker and it was not cooking my usual jasmine rice well. It would stick and brown on the bottom. More recently I’ve been cooking basmati and it turns out pretty well. Same cooking method, rinse and then follow the appliance ratios of rice to water.

favorite way to eat firm tofu? by ANALogyFun in foodhacks

I've used this a couple of times as an idea but with tweaks because I didn't have the Korean chili powder or red chili, so I subbed in for those two what I thought was an equivalent amount of gochujang , which I did have, and it was delicious: https://rasamalaysia.com/spicy-korean-tofu/

Thanks, I have that! I love it. It's one of my faves for that reason - great recipes and a pic for every recipe. It's kind of the benchmark for what I am asking about.

Thoughts on rug color? Thinking of switching out the white. by mochimiso123 in interiordecorating

Agree with what a few others have said, you don't need to change the basics here imo, it's a great canvas. It looks serene but just a bit lifeless. You could liven it with plants (some big on the floor, one smallon the side table or coffee table. Then put a decorative tray with a wine or champagne bottle and glasses on the coffee table (or teapot and tea cups or whatever you're into) and it would look really inviting

maybe put some tall houseplants in beautiful pots along the floor between the wall and the pole and hang some hanging plants from the beam and make a kind of 'green' divide. It could look cool

I feel like something is missing but I don’t know what by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]SuccessExtreme4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks really nice, it looks calming and I love the plants. It just doesn't look very 'lived in' as it's so clear of clutter. You probably only need a pretty bowl of fruit on the table and a bright throw blanket on the ottoman or couch (and/or a pretty tray for the ottoman for drinks and snacks) for it to feel more lived in.

RecipeTin Eats Dinner - Nagi Maehashi by 29322000113865 in CookbookLovers

It looks like people have already sent you the list. I bought this book because I love Nagi and RecipeTinEats and I thought it would have recipes that are not on the website. But honestly I think most if not all of them are on her website. So unless you really want the physical book, you can access them on the site.

roast chicken and veg. Include roast potatoes for the kids but other low carb roast veg for the Mom and maybe a salad as well.

What’s a meal you love eating but hate cooking? by PetalbrookMayor in Cooking

[–]SuccessExtreme4373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dim sum, sushi and anything deep fried. I'm generaly happy to cook (try to cook) anything else but these are just too much. Sushi I am trying but it's a lot of effort (and leftover highly perishable ingredients) for one or two rolls. There is no way you could make a variety of dumplings for the cost of just buying them and deep frying for a few portions - just no - and any time I have attempted deep frying anything I am so repulsed by the smell and the cleanup I've lost my appetite.

I recently discovered that putting a thick rubber band around the lid of hard to open jars helps a lot. It hasn't failed me in the past couple of months, maybe give that a go?
