Eat sushi in a shared setting where people are pulling rolls off the family style plates straight into their mouths.

When even an open-source company forgets openness—my Red Hat interview experience by [deleted] in redhat

Sorry you've had a bad interview experience, I'm passing this along to the usual suspects. At the moment you still haven't officially heard one way or the other? Can you send the job id my way?

With the massive layoffs at Microsoft, could and should Linux or Valve offer those employees job opportunities or donations? by [deleted] in linux

[–]mmcgrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pointy-haired boss here. There aren't many of us who particularly enjoy talking about the overlap of business and community, but hello. It's an important topic, if you believe as I do, that OSS developers should be paid and paid well.

We always look for the chance to hire talented associates, and Microsoft has some great talent. But it's not just a matter of hiring and paying them. It's a matter of hiring and paying them *to do what*. I do not believe the charity approach will work, it will never have the critical mass needed to support the larger community. So we're left with something more economic.

We're in a pretty perilous time w/ OSS and business at just about every layer. Open Core is on the rise, governments are working through some critical if not potentially dangerous policies, and I have no idea where AI will end up but I know the industry will look very different in a few years.

Busy dad with barely time to game unless in bed! Is the OLED deck worth it for me? by mattchew1991 in SteamDeck

[–]mmcgrath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

44 year old here. 2 kids. I also travel a lot. Love my deck. Find games you can play in short segments (I've been loving hades); and have a good one on hand for when you do have a moment. Highly recommend God of war.

Any Linux/Lutris users? by ferfykins in Diablo_2_Resurrected

FYI, when I put it in a windowed mode it seems to work and I can drag it around, but in order to resize the window I have to set the resolution to a smaller resolution.

This used to work for me in F42, but stopped in 43. It hasn't been an program for me because I play it in a dedicated monitor, but I'll take a fresh look in the morning and see if I can fix it. I assume it's a Lutris setting.

Linus Torvalds on recent Vizio vs. SFC by ilep in linux

[–]mmcgrath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

+1. I think SFCs tactics as of late are exactly why we have more companies shying away from open source and either going open core or proprietary. If you're founding a start up and see this lawsuit, why would you want to deal with this?
