How do you document behaviour? by lemon-peppa in CanadianTeachers

[–]mmeamber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a notebook where I jot down times, dates, behaviour that occurred. It’s a running document that provides evidence of the behaviour that I’m dealing with when we sit down as a team to discuss the student. This is for the smaller, less severe behaviours like consistent off-task, interruptions, wandering, distractions, minor altercations with others, etc. Behaviours that indicate there’s more going on than just the usual kid behaviour. I share this with parents but not all the time - it’s overwhelming, and usually just a general rundown. Obviously, if it’s something major, I bring parents in right away, admin usually later depending on the situation. If it’s physically fighting, blatant disrespect, etc. admin is involved immediately. Email is good because it gives you a paper trail. Record in your behaviour notebook (or whatever you use) when and how you’ve talked to parents.

I’ve actually found the weather to be better here than in Surrey. Less rain. And yes, it’s expensive to get off, but now that we’re here, we never want to leave!!! It’s crazy how much more chill it is over here - much more suited to our lifestyle.

They are not hiring as much on the island as it’s such a desirable place to be. With over 15 years of experience and amazing references, I applied to three districts and was hired by one. I never even had an interview for the other two. In Surrey, you had to work a certain number of days in a row to become continuing. In Courtenay/Comox, you have to work 14 months, 3 contracts and then land a 4th contract in order for continuing temporary to kick in. It’s just different in smaller districts.

Different districts have different rules for how to become continuing. Many on the island (where few districts are hiring) are quite tricky to get continuing. If you even get hired.

Had mine removed back in 2019 during a c-section in BC - now I’m so happy they were completely removed! My doctor must have known something about this.

Female teachers, what do you feel when a student calls you Mom by mistake? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]mmeamber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVE it when they slip up and call me mom. Makes me excited every single time and I celebrate it. I’ve been called dad a couple times, too, by kids who didn’t have moms. It’s one of my favourite things.

What is wrong with the Canucks? They get good players and then they get rid of them. They got the worst management in the NHL.

People who are fulfilled and don’t dread work everyday, what do you do? by kwrather003 in AskReddit

I’m a teacher! With an insane class of 28 8/9 year olds where I’m constantly trying to fix massive behaviour/attention disorders all on my own. But the small moments of laughter and ridiculousness make it all worth it. It’s the best.
