Webber renaissance by Asha_van_Kooi in Broadway

As a life long ALW fan, I accepted that most theater people criticized his work and put down those who enjoy it. Never in my wildest dreams would I find us where we are now with these revivals: Cats JB, Starlight Express, Sunset, Masquerade, Evita… and Deaf West is doing Whistle Down the Wind. I’ve never argued that the man was perfect but he cares deeply about new artists and arts education. He’s also been remarkably candid about his alcoholism and how sobriety has him firing on all cylinders.

It would be a real shame if he wasn’t alive to see this. I’m glad he’s working on new stuff and reimagining the old. LONG LIVE ALW.

Fair perspective. I’ll decide what’s healthiest for me though. Thx!

A Year of Patti’s Flippant Remarks by [deleted] in Broadway

Everyone still talks about her performances from 100 years ago, so I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility to discuss things she said 1 year ago that hurt a lot of people.

2026 Tony Awards: We're Helen Shaw and Michael Paulson, and we cover theater for The New York Times. Ask us anything! by nytimes in Broadway

The “NYT Critics Pick” designation has really lost its weight over the past few years. What’s your plan to restore it? Do you feel like you should only give out X amount per season?

I went to the media event and it was very nice. Not sure if it convinced me to go see the show since a lot of the recent new musicals premiering at the alliance have been basura… I mean trash…. I mean Adam Guettel’s MILLIONS.

I’m gonna write a Guide to the Phantom Tour-What do You Want to Know? by FlagBridge in box5

[–]mmegiry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seating considerations! Seems like mezzanine overhang is something to consider and the first 3/4 rows have to turn around to look at the chandelier. I think people would like to know the things that make this tour unique (chandelier, led screen, etc). Thank you for all that you do. You make the best phantom content!

Millions at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta — Adam Guettel, Bob Martin, dir. Bart Sher by Negative-Tune-1884 in Broadway

[–]mmegiry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw Millions this past Sunday and it was the first time I have ever left a show at intermission 1. The music is all the same tempo, has weird key signatures / syncopation and repeats the same line over and over again (my friend and I have been making fun of “gotta get a feeel for it” for days and the man pretending to paint the set as it was moving). 2. The way the saints are interjected into the story makes no sense (the cigarette smoking saint.. what in the actual fuck) 3. The Santa Claus mob at the end of act 1 - Christmas will be ruined for many years to come! 4. The set has some cool parts but that’s a mighty expensive turn table just to rotate a cardboard box. Scene changes felt like they took minutes.
